Chapter 258: Chapter 258: I Really Don’t Know If You’re Ignorant or Stupid
Back home, the house was eerily quiet. Luo Jianing, with her eyes red, walked out upon hearing noises and stood on the second floor looking down at Luo Haotian who had just entered the door. "Dad, this isn’t real, right? You won’t abandon me, will you?"
Luo Haotian looked at the adoptive daughter he had raised for fifteen years, his eyes full of complexity. But he still said, "Jia Ning, come down. I need to talk to you."
Luo Jianing slowly walked down the stairs and stood in front of Luo Haotian with red eyes, pitifully calling out, "Dad."
Luo Haotian exhaled deeply and said indifferently, "You must already know about the matter. There’s no need for me to repeat the obvious. I don’t blame you for this incident, but after all, you are the person involved.
Now that the truth has come to light, we should each go our own way. Pack up your things. You can take whatever you want from your room. I’ll arrange for you to leave in the next few days.
I will take care of your household registration and school transfer. This is the last thing I can do for you as your foster father. I hope you’ll live your life well and study hard. Hereafter, let’s both live well on our own terms."
Luo Jianing cried, "Dad, does fifteen years of affection really pale in comparison to a daughter who has only a blood relation and was never by your side?"
Luo Haotian replied coldly, "You enjoyed fifteen years of love that belonged to her. Isn’t it right to give it back to her now? Besides, that love was attained through your biological mother’s schemes. Shouldn’t we set affairs straight and go our separate ways?
Do you know how your biological parents treated my daughter? Are you aware of what kind of life she’s led these past fifteen years? You don’t know, because you’ve been enjoying everything that should have been hers.
What right do you have to question me now? Considering the affection of the past fifteen years, I don’t wish to hurt you, but you must face reality. Some things aren’t yours, and you shouldn’t harbor any delusions about them."
Luo Jianing looked at Luo Haotian in disbelief, "Dad, are you really going to be so heartless? I’m the daughter you have cherished for fifteen years. I never thought you could be so merciless."
Luo Haotian, looking at the now somewhat twisted face of Luo Jianing, said, "Isn’t it better for everyone to return to their rightful places? I don’t want my daughter to suffer any longer, but I also can’t keep you by my side anymore. You should understand why I have to do this."
Luo Jianing ran upstairs crying, yelling as she went, "I hate you all."
Luo Haotian, listening to Luo Jianing’s cries, picked up the phone to notify the family members one by one, insisting they must all come home that evening, including calling his big brother and younger brother’s families, as well as the families of his two maternal uncles, not forgetting to inform his parents.
After hanging up the phone, he sat on the sofa, thought about the incident in Qingshan Village, and tapped his fingers on the table. Half a day later, he left the house and went to a tea house, where he stayed for over an hour before leaving.
That evening, the Luo family members all gathered at Luo Haotian’s residence in the Mechanical Factory Residential Compound. Except for Ning Xueling, who felt somewhat reluctant and sympathetic towards Luo Jianing, all the relatives agreed to send Luo Jianing away.
Ning Xueling said sadly, "Can’t we let her stay? I mean not living in our house, but finding her a separate place to stay. After all, she has never suffered in the countryside."
The Luo Family Old Lady snorted coldly, "Have you lost your mind? How did her biological parents treat your own daughter? And now you’re sympathetic towards their daughter? I don’t even know what to say about you.
To put it nicely, you’re compassionate and kind. To put it badly, you’re out of your mind. If you’re so worried about her suffering, then go with her. Our Luo family cannot afford a daughter-in-law who cannot distinguish right from wrong.
You’ve ruined my two grandsons, and now you’ve nearly destroyed my granddaughter. There are few people like you in this world. I really don’t know if you’re ignorant or foolish."
Ning Xueling had not expected that her attempt to fight for Jia Ning would provoke such an outburst from the Old Lady. Her eyes filled with tears, she turned to Luo Haotian, but he too had an icy expression towards her.
She then looked towards her brothers from her maternal home, only to find disappointment in their eyes, while her sisters-in-law looked at her with scorn. It was then that she realized she was isolated.
It was at that moment Luo Jianing came rushing down from upstairs and said to Ning Xueling, "Mom, you don’t have to plead with them for me. They are all heartless creatures. I never imagined they could turn so cruel and heartless after the fifteen years I’ve been with them.
Mom, don’t worry. I will study hard and live my life well. When I grow up, I will take good care of you to repay the love you’ve given me these fifteen years. I will always hold it in my heart."
Luo Jianing had already figured out that afternoon that her being sent away was set in stone. Usually, she wasn’t very close to the others, riding only on her mother’s love and her own cleverness to navigate among these people.
Therefore, she needed to firmly grasp her foster mother’s heart. Only by doing so could she live well even if she left the Luo family and would not have to suffer in the countryside.
