Chapter 223: Chapter 223 Looking for Trouble

Luo Tianming heard the name Luo Qiao and asked in confusion, "Has Luo Qiao come to the city?"

Zhang Dezheng replied, "She took the shuttle bus into the city this morning. I figured she doesn’t have other relatives, so she must have come to find you."

Luo Tianming wasn’t a fool, "Why would Luo Qiao come to the city? Has something happened to her?"

Luo Tianming still had some affection for his adopted daughter, after all, they had lived together for fifteen years. The girl, although quiet on most days, was obedient and well-behaved, much less of a worry than Luo Bin.

Previously, his intention was to keep Luo Qiao with them, but Feng Hui vehemently disagreed, claiming a child is best with their own kind, and they couldn’t afford to care for unrelated people.

Zhang Dezheng felt somewhat embarrassed to speak, but he had no choice and simply repeated the story, trying his best to make it sound like an accident, without mentioning how the cow had gone mad and charged at Luo Qiao.

When Luo Tianming heard that Luo Qiao had become this year’s top scholar in the city middle school exams, his heart skipped several beats. His expression became unreadable, feeling both joy for Luo Qiao and a tinge of regret that such an honor did not belong to the Luo Family.

He hadn’t listened clearly to the rest of Zhang Dezheng’s words, only understanding that Luo Qiao had sustained a work injury, and the village had given her time off, so the girl had run into the city.

Luo Tianming asked more about Luo Qiao’s circumstances, and Zhang Dezheng told him in detail. He was anxiously eager to see Luo Qiao, thus answered quickly to whatever Luo Tianming asked.

It was then that Luo Tianming realized, Luo Qiao was now on her own; the Zhao Family was not her biological parents. He couldn’t help worrying about what the girl would do for her education in the future.

Then he heard from Zhang Dezheng’s companion, Zhang Dongze, "The city, the county, and the collective all awarded her a prize, enough to cover her three years of high school living expenses. Additionally, the city’s top high school even waived her miscellaneous fees."

Relieved to hear this, Luo Tianming was also happy for Luo Qiao.

Zhang Dongze, however, was disappointed as he had deliberately mentioned this to make Luo Tianming covet the money Luo Qiao had received, hoping to get his own sister out of trouble.

But from Luo Tianming’s current expression, it seemed he was actually quite pleased.

Luo Tianming asked, "So what did you come here for today, hoping to do?"

Zhang Dongze responded, "We wanted to ask Luo Qiao to give my sister another chance. She is still young and acted recklessly. We will make sure to teach her well in the future."

Luo Tianming didn’t grasp the real meaning behind this ’chance’, merely thinking that the party secretary wanted to resolve the issue quickly, fearing that Luo Qiao had come to file a complaint, hence the rush to follow her here.

Luo Tianming said, "I’m afraid you will be disappointed. Ever since we sent the child back to Qingshan Village, there has been no further contact. We made it clear then that she would be no concern of ours from that point on.

She’s a strong-willed child, who certainly wouldn’t come to our house. If you don’t believe me, feel free to come and check our home with me."

Zhang Dongze, hearing Luo Tianming’s words, countered, "That’s not right. She brought back quite a few things from the city before, claiming they were from relatives in the city. I remember there were also quilts."

Luo Tianming’s eyebrows furrowed, as if realizing something, "I get it now, she must have gone to the Yao Family."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Dezheng hurriedly asked, "Who are the Yaos?"

Luo Tianming explained, "The Yao Family and we used to be on the same farm, living not far from each other. Before, the Yao Family took good care of Luo Qiao; she likely refers to them when she speaks of relatives."

Zhang Dezheng inquired, "Mr. Gui Bao, could you lead us there?"

The mention of ’Mr. Gui Bao’ made Luo Tianming somewhat inexplicably upset; every time that name was brought up, it reminded him of the foolish act he and Feng Hui had committed years ago.

So Luo Tianming coolly stated, "He’s changed his name, it’s Luo Bin now."

He used ’he’ without mentioning ’Gui Bao’ because he didn’t want to utter those words himself.

Zhang Dezheng, the shrewd man that he was, saw the displeasure on Luo Tianming’s face and quickly changed his tune, "That’s a good name, much more stylish than before. It sounds like it was given by someone cultured."
