Chapter 111: Chapter 111 Severe Burns

As soon as these words were spoken, the faces of the people from the Sun Family’s main wife and the third wife changed. There was no way they would take the money out of their pockets again. Grandma Stone said, "Are you not going to get the money from the second son’s household? Do you want to be responsible for shaming the Sun Family?"

Kong Yuru, the daughter-in-law of the Sun Family’s second son, had now come to her senses, and she knew she had caused trouble. The whole village was watching her, so she didn’t dare to be presumptuous anymore.

She turned around, went into the house, and came out with twenty yuan, which she handed to the bookkeeper. The bookkeeper called for Lu Yichen to start the tractor for a trip.

Uncle Stone Sun Baowen then hurriedly picked up Stone and got on the vehicle. Accompanying them was Doctor Gao from the village clinic. Luo Qiao had wanted to go as well, but the village head had not allowed it.

She reluctantly took out ten yuan from her pocket and handed it to Doctor Gao, saying, "Doctor Gao, please take this money for now. If Stone’s money isn’t enough, use this, and if it’s not needed, you can bring it back."

She absolutely didn’t trust the Sun Family with this money. They had shared her sister’s compensation, and yet, they still treated their own nephew like this—there was something wrong with the moral character of the Sun Family.

As they watched the tractor disappear into the distance, some villagers finally began to disperse.

It was then that Kong Yuru realized that her own son was still soaking in the river. She was just about to call for the tractor to stop, but when she looked up, she saw it had already crossed the bridge and turned out of the village.

Frustrated, she stamped her feet on the spot.

Grandma Sun saw that her second grandson’s arm was also blistering and said, "What are you waiting for? Go find someone to take Shengyuan to the commune health clinic."

Shengyuan had only been splashed on his arm, but the burn was severe, and his face had been spotted with a bit of it too, although it was not quite as bad as his arm, being only slightly reddened but intensely painful.

Previously, he had been too scared to speak out, knowing he had caused trouble. But now, seeing that many villagers had left, and his mother was also wiping away tears of concern, he began to cry as well.

He cried, saying that his arm and face hurt terribly, which frightened Kong Yuru enough not to delay any longer. She went back into the house, and put thirty yuan in her pocket, before asking the village head to let her son take them on the bicycle to the commune health clinic.

Despite his reluctance, given the situation, the village head could not simply ignore it, so he asked his eldest son, Zhang Dongze, to take them there.

Luo Qiao was somewhat worried about Stone but knew she couldn’t appear too enthusiastic right now, so she decided to go back and wait for news.

Fortunately, the work site was right at the entrance to the village that afternoon. Luo Qiao was distracted all afternoon, occasionally glancing up at the main road.

When she heard the sound of the tractor and saw villagers running to inquire about the situation, Luo Qiao followed them.

She found out that Stone’s burns were quite severe. The commune health clinic had agreed to see him first, saying that they would decide on the next steps depending on his condition. If necessary, he might have to go to the city hospital.

Doctor Gao was a bit worried, firstly because he feared that if the injury was severe, treatment in the city would require much more money, and secondly because he was concerned about the limited facilities at the commune health clinic—if Stone were to be left with scars on his back, it would ruin the boy’s life.

Upon hearing Doctor Gao’s words, many of the village women started to cry. Luo Qiao felt terribly distressed and thought about visiting the commune health clinic herself after work to see Stone’s condition.

With the end of the workday approaching, Luo Qiao did not want to attract attention, so she hurried back to finish off her remaining tasks. She then called the scorekeeper over for inspection. Right after her work points had been recorded, she rushed back home.

After a quick hand wash, ignoring everything else, she locked the main gate, entered the Spatial Study Room, and looked for medical books on treating burns.
