Chapter 1098: Chapter 1098: If It Really Comes to That, It’s His Fate
Qiao Hua struggled to control her temper. "Grandma, even after going overseas, I still can’t stand up. How much do you think her words can be trusted?"
Old Lady Qiao looked at Luo Qiao. "Dr. Luo, my grandson has been spoiled by me, and after being treated for so long, he has become a bit reckless. Please, don’t take it to heart.
No matter what, I beg you to help. I, an old woman, believe that even if in the end there’s no effect, it can’t be worse than it is now. If it comes to that, it’s his fate.
But as long as I, this old woman, have a breath left in me, I’ll find a way. After all, he was raised by me, the one I cherish in the palm of my hand, my life."
Qiao Hua might have been touched by his grandmother’s words. "Grandma, your health is not good either, don’t get agitated. I’ll listen to you."
Luo Qiao saw that Qiao Hua was not incurable and her impression of him improved quite a bit.
Qiao Hua reached out to wipe the tears from his grandmother’s face and then turned to Luo Qiao, "You don’t need to ask our opinion. Whatever method you think is best, just use it. I’m already like this; how much worse could it get?"
He chuckled self-deprecatingly. "Who knows, there might even be a miracle that will make those who mocked me eat their words."
Luo Qiao spoke indifferently, "As for which method to use, that’s for you to decide. I have limited time, so I’ll give you ten minutes to consider."
After some thought, Old Lady Qiao asked, "Dr. Luo, if I may inquire, which city are you headed to?"
Luo Qiao spoke softly, "Boston."
Old Lady Qiao looked at her grandson. "Qiao Hua, grandma is old, and there will come a day when I must leave you. In my lifetime, my greatest wish is to see you stand up and live a happy and normal life."
Qiao Hua’s eyes reddened, and after a long time, he made up his mind. "I’m going overseas."
Old Lady Qiao patted her grandson’s shoulder. "Good."
She turned to Luo Qiao. "Dr. Luo, I’ll handle his paperwork in the next few days, so he can leave with you. That way, someone can look after him over there."
Lu Yichen didn’t like that, his wife was a doctor, not a nanny.
Luo Qiao didn’t understand what Old Lady Qiao meant and quietly waited for her to finish.
Only then did Old Lady Qiao continue, "I won’t hide it from you. My grandson’s mother and his father split up early on. She was driven away by my no-good son and has never remarried, living a particularly tough life.
Eight years ago, her family found her and took her to the other side of the ocean. Qiao Hua’s maternal grandfather only had this one daughter, so when he passed away three years ago, he left the family business to Qiao Hua’s mother.
Qiao Hua’s previous surgery was actually done at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, but unfortunately, it did not yield the expected results. Qiao Hua’s maternal family has a property near the hospital; you could stay there first."
Luo Qiao smiled knowingly after hearing this. "No need, this overseas study isn’t just me, it’s a group of us, and once we’re out there, we all have to follow orders."
Old Lady Qiao nodded. "I see. Then we will quickly complete the formalities, and once Qiao Hua is there, you can make an appointment for treatment."
Luo Qiao nodded, indicating her agreement.
Old Madam Qiao coughed lightly. "Dr. Luo, how will the fees be handled?"
Luo Qiao answered placidly, "Acupuncture is one thousand per session, meridian clearing is two thousand each time, and the cost of the herbal medicine is separate."
The middle-aged woman who had let them in couldn’t hold back and blurted, "Why don’t you just go rob somebody?"
Luo Qiao didn’t even look at her and walked out. "To treat or not is up to you; I don’t care."
She left the hotel, pulling Lu Yichen behind her and not looking back.
Lu Yichen held Luo Qiao’s hand as they walked through the snow. "Qiao Bao, if you don’t want to take it, just refuse. I don’t want you to be upset."
Luo Qiao looked up. "Why quarrel with money? Besides, I’m not upset. No matter what they say, they can’t hurt me. I am paid for my labor — if it’s too expensive, they don’t have to be treated."
Lu Yichen stroked her hair. "Okay, as long as you’re not angry."
The couple bought some colored paper at a consignment store at the alleyway entrance and then headed home to make small lanterns with the children, developing their skills and enjoying some family time.
