Chapter 1050: Chapter 1050: Leave room for others, so you can meet again in the future.

Bai Miaomiao and her mother clung tightly to Bai Haixia’s arm, as Mother Bai said, "Little sister-in-law, for the sake of your brother, please help us out. We were wrong in the past, we beg you."

Luo Qiao could tell from Bai Haixia’s current attire that she must be doing quite well now.

A middle-aged woman among the onlookers whispered, "This Bai mother-daughter duo is really shameless. Back then, after Bai Miaomiao made a mistake, it led to her aunt Bai Haixia losing her job and, in the end, even her marriage fell apart."

"It’s not entirely Bai Miaomiao’s fault for the divorce. If she hadn’t been reckless, involving herself with Fan Bing from the procurement department, would she have been fired?"

"If it weren’t for the trouble Bai Miaomiao caused, would Bai Haixia and Fan Bing’s affair have come to light? Even if she was reckless, others might say so, but what right does the Bai family have? How many favors did they accept during those years? The moment Haixia ran into trouble, they disowned her as a sister.

And now? They aren’t ashamed to show their faces, seeing she’s doing well and they can’t wait to cling to her. The Bai family has troubles and suddenly they want to acknowledge their sister. Where do they get off thinking it’s that easy?"

While the standoff continued, the onlookers had already started arguing.

Bai Haixia pushed away the mother and daughter blocking her, "How you treated me back then, I’m sure you haven’t forgotten. Now you see me all dressed up, but do you have any idea what I’ve been through these years?"

Having said that, she stepped forward to leave, but Bai Miaomiao chased after her and blocked Bai Haixia again, "Aunt, if you don’t take care of my dad now, he might have to stay inside forever. His arm is injured too, at the very least get him out on bail, I’m begging you, aunt."

Bai Haixia looked at the niece she once cherished, "I can’t help you. Since he has violated the law, there’s no one who can."

Bai Miaomiao’s mother, seeing her sister-in-law was unmoved, became frantic, "You’re really heartless. He’s your own brother, you’re truly an ingrate. Don’t forget how well your brother treated you before you were married."

Bai Haixia scoffed, "You said it yourself. Before I was married. Wasn’t it supposed to be good with me then? Besides, how much have you gained from me afterwards, don’t you know? I’ve long since repaid those debts of gratitude.

It was you who disowned me back then, not even letting me through the family door, adamantly saying you didn’t recognize me, afraid it would affect my nephew and niece’s reputation. I made it clear then that our relationship was over, hence, you’ve got the wrong person."

After speaking, Bai Haixia pushed past Bai Miaomiao and walked toward a parked car nearby, only to be stopped by someone. Luo Qiao thought it was someone from the Bai family, but someone mentioned it was Bai Haixia’s ex-husband.

The man spoke up, "Haixia, when did you come back?"

Bai Haixia looked at the somewhat portly man, "I just got back not long ago."

"Haixia, we haven’t seen each other for a long time. How about I treat you to dinner tonight?"

"No need, I still have things to do. Excuse me."

"Haixia, don’t you want to ask how your son is doing?"

"My son has you, his father. I’m sure he’s doing very well. If he isn’t, then it’s because you’re unfit as a father. Sorry, I’m in a rush, I must be going."

Saying this, she got into the car, started the engine, and drove away.

The Bai mother and daughter glared at the departing car, and Bai Miaomiao’s mother choked up with tears, "Your aunt is really heartless. To just refuse to help and leave us in the lurch... If she doesn’t care for your father, what will we do?

We thought there was hope knowing she came back, but now we’re still helpless. How can we afford to pay back such a huge sum of money? How can she be so heartless to forget the past?"

Bai Miaomiao hadn’t expected her aunt to be so ruthless now.

"Mom, stop crying. Crying won’t solve the problem. Let’s think of something else."

"But where are we supposed to find the money for such a large amount?"

The onlookers, realizing there was nothing left to watch, began to leave one after another.

Luo Qiao learned from the conversations around her that Bai Miaomiao’s father had accidentally knocked down a pregnant woman a few nights ago while leaving work. He panicked upon seeing the woman bleed profusely and ran away, but unfortunately, several police officers who were coming out of an alley happened to witness it.

By the time the police transported the woman to the hospital, she had already lost the child due to excessive blood loss and was left infertile due to the impact.

Bai Miaomiao’s father was guilty of hit and run, and he was taken into custody by the police only afterwards, so he was still detained, waiting to be released on bail. However, the family didn’t have enough money for the bail. Upon hearing that Bai Haixia had returned to Capital City, they came looking for her.

Bai Haixia’s ex-husband also came looking for her after neighbors told him she was here. He had intended to bring his son, but the boy was still at school, and fearing he might complicate matters, he decided to make the trip alone.

He had heard from others that Bai Haixia was doing well in Shanghai and hoped to get something from her.

He glanced at the mother and daughter Bai, who were still angrily quarreling, then turned and walked away. He wasn’t in a hurry. With his son as his trump card, he wasn’t worried about not getting money from Bai Haixia—as long as he could find her.

This man might not be handsome, but he certainly had grand dreams, not realizing that Bai Haixia was no longer the same person she had been in the past. He was deluding himself.

Driving her car, Bai Haixia reflected on the past, and the corners of her eyes reddened involuntarily. When she had married her ex-husband, both their families were poor as could be.

If it weren’t for her, they would have never had the good life they enjoyed later. She might have made mistakes and taken wrong turns, but it was life that had driven her to them.

But they were so fickle, the first to turn their backs on her when trouble arose. Now that she had made a name for herself, they all wanted to latch on and suck her blood, as if she was still the naïve and gullible girl from before.

Now, she had a loving man and an adorable daughter by her side. She would never soften her heart again.

Luo Qiao, with the two little ones in tow, returned to the residential compound and heard someone shout, "Gu Xiyan, Lu XiYue, what are you doing here?"

Luo Qiao paused, and Yanyan looked up, "Mommy, it’s Wu Haoning, a friend from our preschool."

Luo Qiao smiled, "I didn’t expect to run into your preschool friends here in the residential compound. Go over and say hello."

Wu Haoning ran over, "Do you live here?"

Yanyan flashed her tiny teeth, "Yes, my daddy works just up ahead, and this is our home, too."

Yueyue also spoke up, "Wu Haoning, what are you doing here?"

Wu Haoning glanced at his grandmother catching up from behind, "My grandpa’s house is here. My mom and dad have been busy at work these past few days, so they dropped me off with my grandpa. Why haven’t you been going to preschool these past days?"

Yanyan took out a small piece of chocolate she had just gotten from her mom at the department store and handed it to him, "It’s too cold, and the roads are bad. My mom has the day off, so we stayed home and played with her."

Wu Haoning asked, "Can I come over to your house to play?"

Yanyan and Yueyue both looked at Luo Qiao, "Mommy, can he?"

Luo Qiao smiled and reached out to touch Yueyue’s hair, "Of course, we welcome little friend Wu Haoning to come over and play."

The wife of Director Liu from the political department, Auntie Liu, was catching up behind them, "Wu Haoning, you little rascal, did you do that on purpose? You know I can’t catch up, and yet you still ran so fast."

Luo Qiao laughed, "Auntie Liu, take your time."
