Chapter 850: Too Young for Death
Chapter 850: Chapter 850: Too Young for Death
Alwin was a promising elf at a glance.
Alwin was the fragile, yet powerful, young elf who survived with a broken mana heart and managed to accept much of a primordial dragon’s mana.
He was the young elf who followed Ferdinand around, even with his small, weak strides.
He was the young elf who always exceeded everyone’s expectations and smiled proudly at their surprised faces.
And Alwin was even more promising than they thought.
Just a few months ago, he had a growth spurt again, and his mana capacity increased tremendously, so he had to return to Estrella for more limiters.
Such a promising child with so much potential did not deserve to die at such a young age when he had not even fully bloomed yet.
Alwin was the only child Ferdinand ever took in after the two iced dragons he raised.
Ferdinand tried to equip Alwin with enough skills and knowledge to survive even if he and the others were gone.
And Ferdinand could never accept Alwin dying before he did.
Alwin was too young for death.
In the worst-case scenario, Alwin would agree to being revived, right?
If something happened to him and they succeeded in reviving him, Alwin would not tell them that he was fine with leaving, right?
It was a question Ferdinand realized he did not want to ask or hear the answer to.
Seeing Alwin lying vulnerable and unconscious in his bed, once again made Ferdinand question if he had not taught Alwin enough to be able to protect himself.
It made him think that perhaps he had indeed held back too much due to all the rules.
This was exactly why he wanted Alwin to simply stay in Estrella, where he was safe and sound.
Alwin could experiment there as much as he wished, and yet, he still insisted on being here.
He would not have been exposed to dangers and gotten hurt like this.
Although Ferdinand already knew he had not made a mistake, he rechecked Alwin for the second time.
And sure indeed, Alwin had lost two mana cores.
Still, it was a relief that nothing much worse happened to Alwin.
’Did he use it for the forbidden spell he used?’
Two mana cores were nothing to Ferdinand, who had a lot of them.
But not to Alwin, who was still young and developing.
Over the millennia, as he grew, Alwin had already developed more mana cores than other elves or long-lived races his age.
However, it was still not enough for him to lose two mana cores at the same time, like it was nothing.
Especially not here in the human realm, where the recovery rate was much slower than Estrella’s.
Ferdinand glanced at Alvis again.
Looking at the elf king who remained calm despite Alwin in this state meant there must be more to this.
An issue big enough to silence Alvis and accept this situation as if he were helpless to do something about it.
"No! I won’t let it happen!"
Alwin suddenly spoke in an agitated voice, shattered the silence, and gathered their attention.
’Did he wake up?!’
Ferdinand and everyone else focused on the young elf.
However, Alwin was still asleep.
But Alwin’s brows were furrowed, and he tossed and turned in his sleep.
"He seems to be having a nightmare," Zion said.
Alwin let out a groan as if he was in pain and balled his fists tightly like he was furious at something.
"Alwin, wake up." Ferdinand touched Alwin’s forehead.
He beat Alvis to it, so the latter touched Alwin’s hand instead.
Ferdinand’s eyes narrowed as he noticed Alwin’s temperature had risen, and his mana became erratic.
"He has a fever," Ferdinand and Alvis said at the same time.
Ferdinand eyed Alvis, waiting for the latter to heal his beloved nephew.
Ferdinand was so sure Alvis would immediately.
Unexpectedly, Alvis did not.
Instead, Alvis had a pained and conflicted look on his face.
Ferdinand frowned and decided to ask the elf king this time.
"Why are you not healing him?
Were your limiters excessive?
Or have you not recovered enough yet after using your mana?"
Alvis took a deep breath as if trying to calm himself before replying.
"I have recovered. And my limiters are just fine. But, RAY-MOND! He prohibited me from further healing Alwin."
Alvis spoke with so much bite as if he wanted to punch Raymond in the face if he were here.
"What do you mean? Why would Raymond prohibit it?"
Ferdinand was even more puzzled now.
What reason would Raymond have to prohibit Alvis from healing Alwin?
When Alwin was younger, it was Raymond and the others who took care of him when Ferdinand was busy.
’Did they fight?’ Ferdinand could not help but wonder.
Raymond had mellowed out now, but he once used to pick fights with everyone.
It was how Ferdinand met Raymond, after all.
As a dragon who inherited both water and fire affinities, Raymond was well-balanced in battle and defeated all those whom he challenged or vice versa.
Thus, Raymond trampled on his enemies and searched for stronger opponents.
Ferdinand could still recall the smug grin and overconfident look on Raymond’s face when the latter challenged him to a fight.
It was a good exercise for Ferdinand but a difficult battle for Raymond.
Raymond tasted defeat for the first time and devastatingly at that.
Those who had witnessed it still tease Raymond about it every now and then.
When Alvis discovered Alwin was on Ferdinand’s island, it was Raymond who duked it out with the elf king as the former accused them of hiding Alwin intentionally.
The two had repeatedly clashed in the past after the incident, so it would not be a first if they got into a fight again.
After all, Alvis already disliked dragons before he even became the elf king due to the damage they often caused to nature during fights.
And Raymond, who once used to like fights, was a pain to Alvis’ eyes.
The two had been getting along just fine over the years, so Ferdinand was surprised to once again see that look of contempt on Alvis’ face, directed at Raymond.
"Greetings, Your Majesty," Raymond, who had just arrived, entered and greeted in the ways of the Empire.
