Chapter 795: Are You Underestimating Your Tasks?
Chapter 795: Chapter 795: Are You Underestimating Your Tasks?
Arabella was relieved that although they are also competitive, the others decided to just do their assigned task.
’Now, how should I deal with these three? Are they underestimating the value of serving food?’
She already knew they were well-versed with the sword and received knight’s training.
However, it was experience that they lacked.
They had never been to the battlefield and had lived more comfortably and sheltered than others till now.
Hence, Arabella was worried they would be traumatized if they saw the Prudencians just as they were right after they were rescued.
It was why she was only willing to assign Nadia there at first since Nadia was a battle-hardened warrior and already experienced helping the rescued Prudencians before without even needing Arabella ordering her to do so.
Nadia would not be satisfied in a safer but lighter task when she knew she could help in something she was more suited with.
Likewise, serving food to the starved Prudencians who barely ever got anything nice to eat from their masters was also a very important task.
"Nadia, you may leave now and return to work," Arabella dismissed Nadia first so the latter would not hear what she planned to say to these three to enlighten them of the gravity of the situation they wanted to be in.
"Yes, Your Majesty," Nadia bowed and left her inner office to go back to her desk.
[Why am I also not dismissed yet?] Narcissa thought since she was the only lady left in the room.
However, Arabella wanted Narcissa and the others to listen to this conversation as well so she did not dismiss them yet.
"Serving food to them is equally as important as other tasks. Are you underestimating your current task?" Arabella asked the three and they flinched.
"No, Your Majesty. We would never dare," Egbert, Oscar, and Ronald bowed and apologized in unison.
"Then why do you want to be transferred?"
Oscar replied first, "I just thought, I might be more suited there than serving food. With my build, wouldn’t I be scaring the people from eating?"
"I thought so too, Your Majesty," Egbert seconded.
After all, the two had well-built bodies which were visibly sturdy and strong since they trained since childhood to be knights in the future, but they chose to be civil servants instead.
"Me too, Your Majesty. I thought since I also have a knight’s training I might be able to function there more," Ronald said as well.
Ronald was raised to be the next Prime Minister but it also necessitated him from training to be strong. Especially since he was formerly obsessed with defeating Raymond who was also an adept warrior aside from being the perfectly efficient and capable Prime Minister.
"Your builds are not a problem. There are also knights helping in serving food or assisting in the second step onwards. Likewise, being a knight or having the training is not only the requirement to be in the first step of the process," Arabella clarified.
The three gulped at the clear rejection, silently wondering why Nadia was allowed then.
"What are the other requirements, Your Majesty?" Oscar inquired.
"You must be experienced in the ways of the battlefield. Have you three ever been to war?" Arabella inquired and the three glanced at each other.
They blushed in embarrassment since all of them had not gone to war yet.
"Ah, please do not misunderstand. I did not say that to undermine you. I understand that you three had rigorous training since childhood for you to be as strong as you are now. I was simply asking since I wanted to know," Arabella clarified.
She already knew the answer though.
"I haven’t joined a war yet," Oscar replied after he regained his composure.
"I haven’t been to one either, Your Majesty," Egbert said as well.
"I haven’t either," Ronald admitted too.
[I guess I have more experience than them in this matter since I have tried fighting with monsters. There are more monster attacks in Fidelis than in other parts of Valeria even if it’s not winter yet. Though, I haven’t fought in a war either.] Norbert thought.
Arabella nodded her head, "I see. Then it’s all the more reason I cannot send you there.
Eliora has declared certain acts to be considered as war crimes and were considered unethical in most of the continent.
However, kingdoms with slavery do not consider a lot of these as unethical since it is part of their daily lives.
Since you had your knights’ training and are educated civil servants, I’m sure you have an idea on what war crimes are."
Her assistants gulped since they all knew what war crimes were.
Torture without viable reason. Unreasonable punishments without justification. Assaulting or selling women of conquered territories. Attacking or killing people who have already surrendered. Unnecessary violence and so on and so forth.
"Seeing them in person is different from hearing it from other people or seeing it illustrated in books. In the first step, you will be seeing in person just how bad the people of Prudencia were treated in Crux. And these ones were held not just as slaves but also as prisoners for months," Arabella clarified.
They gulped and remained silent since they were not sure they would be able to maintain their calm and work as sharp as usual.
"You must have heard of Nadia stories. It may seem like some kind of exaggeration but her tales are true.
Nadia had experienced it herself so she understood how they felt.
Thus, I could assign her there.
She had lived as a sell-sword who had been fighting monsters everyday just to be able to eat and provide for her people.
She had tried living fighting for her life and safety everyday so her senses were heightened and her emotions were usually calm and stable regardless of what she saw since she had experienced a lot more than one can imagine.
However, are you sure you will be fine even after seeing all these?
You might be unable to sleep or eat for days or even weeks" Arabella clarified and eyed the three.
