Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 763: Let Her Spread Her Wings and Soar High
Chapter 763: Chapter 763: Let Her Spread Her Wings and Soar High
’I knew he would say this,’ Arabella did not need to convince him at all. She simply had to present the facts they learned in the meeting.
"Thank you," Arabella smiled happily and gave him another peck on the lips. She hugged him and settled her head against his chest, relieved that she did not have to worry about this anymore.
Just as she had expected, Ferdinand would agree to the proposal once he learns that what they would gain was the location of the remaining Prudencians in Crux.
[She’s this delighted about it? I just wanted to have the remaining Prudencians return home as soon as possible since it had taken longer than expected. She must have been worrying about them a lot for her to be reacting like this... Wait, did she think I would reject this?]
"Did you think I would say no?" Ferdinand cocked his head to the side. He gently lifted her chin up to meet her gaze.
"No, I knew you would agree. It is beneficial for us and Valeria, after all," Arabella grinned confidently.
"I see," Ferdinand smiled back contentedly at her response.
With Ferdinand agreeing to the proposal, Arabella would not be letting down Princess Seraphina’s earnest pleas to her either. They would be able to save both Prudencians and a lot of the people of Crux.
With this, they had lessened one nation that would join their enemy as they did in her past life.
Moreover, this meant Princess Seraphina and her faction would feel indebted to them and trust them in the future.
Arabella might be able to count on them when she needs some support. More allies to their side would be good for Valeria’s future and for Fermin and Ferdinand.
[Her meeting with the princess is indeed useful. We gained such valuable information we could not obtain for months despite the magicians we have with us. If she had not met up with the princess because I prohibited it, we would not have known such crucial information and the remaining Prudencians could have all ended up dead with our knights’ own hands.]
Ferdinand moped as he had to accept that he truly needed to allow Arabella more freedom to act on her own despite the risks it entailed or his worries for her.
As Emperor of Valeria, he knew an Empress like her was what the people needed. She was useful and beneficial to the Empire.
However, to Ferdinand as a husband, it meant he would have to bear with fretting about her safety constantly. He hated the idea of letting her be exposed to danger but did not want to imprison her either.
[She is indeed young and has much to do in this world. I have spent my years doing whatever I want to satisfy my curiosity. I have chased everything I wanted to do except for getting married so I don’t want anything else but be with her now. However, for Arabella, though she’s already so capable at such a young age, she still has much to learn, experience, and achieve. I shouldn’t limit her from leaving the legacy she wanted. I have to let her spread her wings and soar high. If I stop her from doing all that, she might get tired of me someday and decide to part with so she could chase after what she wanted to do. What if she stops smiling because of regret from what she was not able to do? I don’t want that to happen.]
Ferdinand had a deep reflection and Arabella simply listened silently. He appreciated the effort she was putting in and recognized what she could do.
’I’m so grateful that he understands it this way,’ Arabella thought. Ferdinand was being thoughtful and wanted her to be truly happy instead of getting forced to stay by his side.
’This is the kind of man I want,’ Arabella concluded, falling for him all over again.
"Arabella, I wanted to spend more time with you, but with this information you have gathered from the Princess, I need to have a meeting with the Grand Knight Commander and ministers involved in war preparations," Ferdinand lamented that they had to part.
[Arabella had done more than what was required of her. I should also do my job.] Ferdinand thought.
Since the King could not convince all his subjects and the pro-slavery faction were stubborn, the war would continue. Thus, they had to prepare to attack once the set time-frame ends.
Arabella wanted to be with Ferdinand a bit longer too but the sooner they end this, the sooner their workload would be lessened. Meaning, they could spend more time together at a more leisurely pace instead of speaking about work even while they were together.
"Yes. Me too. But I would need to send a correspondence with Princess Seraphina as well. Or perhaps, I should send it after you meet with the ministers?" Arabella inquired.
"Hmm, what if you attend the meeting with me instead? It would be faster. You would know what to tell the princess and we can send Riley to her immediately if there are things we needed to confirm from their side," Ferdinand offered.
"Can I really join?" Arabella perked up. She was always excluded in military talks in her past life.
"Of course. I’d hit someone who says otherwise," Ferdinand assured her.
"Haha. You don’t have to. But I’d love to join indeed. This way, you won’t have to inform me again after you speak with them. Oh, but I have to get changed," Arabella glanced at her clothes.
It was not appropriate for a meeting since she had already changed to indoor clothes.
"Ah, yes indeed. I might gouge out their eyes if they see you like this," Ferdinand said as he glanced at her clothing as well.
It was thinner than her usual outer clothes but not that thin to be seen through.
However, if it was military related personnel who had been trained, they would be able to see the outline of her figure more clearly than normal people would if she was not wearing Ferdinand’s coat.
Thus, she needed a change of clothes since it would be inappropriate to attend the meeting in her current getup.
