Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress
Chapter 761: It Was Beneficial For Them

Chapter 761: Chapter 761: It Was Beneficial For Them

The security measures Ferdinand had in place had kept Arabella safe and prevented more assassination attempts from harming her.

She held his hand and led him to a seat. Ferdinand understood wordlessly that she wanted him to sit down so he did.

Arabella smiled at the gesture and seated herself on his lap.

"..." Ferdinand gulped but did not complain. Instead, he wrapped an arm around her waist.

Arabella held his hand reassuringly and interlocked their fingers, " I understand you worry about me a lot. It cannot be helped. I worry a lot about you too even if I know you are strong and powerful. But regardless of our worries and fears, we have to do our duties and responsibilities. We are not living in this empire as just two people. We have people counting on us so we have to act even if we have our worries."

Arabella wanted Ferdinand to understand that their mutual concern for each other was natural and important since they were lovers. But it shouldn’t hinder them from fulfilling their roles and living their lives to the fullest.

"..." Ferdinand did not reply since he knew she was speaking of facts.

[So we have to get by despite all these fears and worries? I always wish for Arabella to be safe and sound. But what would I do if something happened to her while I push my worries aside?]

"I will be alright," Arabella promised.

’I won’t die without having done what I ought to do in this second chance at life I was given.’

"..." Ferdinand simply pouted.

[How can we be sure of that? This is exactly why I want to be with her and ensure she would be safe. She did not get out of the palace as promised but she still met dangerous guests. If she told me about the meeting, I would have accompanied her.]

Hearing his thoughts, Arabella pointed out, "It’s also because I knew you would not let me meet the Princess alone. You would go with me just like you did in Olivier. But you are already busy in Sibruh so I didn’t want to disturb you."

"Arabella, you are never a disturbance to me," Ferdinand quickly corrected. "I’d rather go with you than be restless as I worry about your safety from afar."

"Thank you," Arabella smiled at his response. However she needed to point out, "But we have to work separately. We cannot work properly if we are together all the time."

"I hate the sound of that," Ferdinand pouted, and drew her closer.

Arabella kissed him on the cheek since he looked so adorable.

She gently explained her thoughts, "I do too. But we have no choice. We are Emperor and Empress of Valeria. It is our job to work for the empire. If we have to be together all the time, every time we have to work on something, things would get delayed and work would pile up. We won’t be able to spend time alone together the more work adds up even if we are both in the palace."

"Tsk. Why did I have to be the Emperor?" Ferdinand complained. He thought out loud, "If I did not have this status, we wouldn’t have to mind everyone and everything."

He was right. They could be living as they please. But only if Arabella was not a princess either. If they were both just normal people, then perhaps, they could only worry about themselves.

However, that is not the case. Their status also had benefits for both of them.

"But you wouldn’t be able to marry me," Arabella pointed out and Ferdinand flinched. "Is that alright with you?"

"Right! Humans have such customs. I won’t be able to marry you if I was not in a powerful position," Ferdinand was wide-eyed in realization.

"See? Being the Emperor of Valeria is beneficial to you. It is beneficial to me as well since queens, princesses, and noble ladies from other kingdoms cannot bully me because I’m Empress of Valeria. We both benefit from this role and it was the bridge for us to be together. Hence, we have no choice but to do our job to take care of the empire while we are here," Arabella reminded. "Once we are in Estrella, we can slack off as much as we want."

Ferdinand sighed deeply as he reflected on her words. He had to admit that their love and support for each other needed to balance with their responsibilities as rulers.

[I don’t want her to hide more things from me. It’s better for me to know what she’s up to than to be informed about it only after everything is done.I f know where she is, I at least know where to go in case something happens. And it seems she gained something important in her meeting which was why she asked to speak with me.]

He vowed silently to trust her judgment more and to support her decisions even if they entailed risks.

"Alright. I understand, Arabella," Ferdinand finally said, his voice soft but determined.

"Thank you," Arabella smiled gratefully at him, relieved that they could finally discuss these matters openly.

"But you must at least inform me first. I will allow you to go to such meetings but you need to inform me first," Ferdinand emphasized.

"Yes, I will inform you if there’s a next time," Arabella smiled happily and kissed him on the cheek.

[I hope there won’t be a next time.] Ferdinand thought but gladly accepted her kiss.

"Aww, don’t be like that. Are you still angry? I’m sorry, I hid it from you," Arabella soothed him this time.

"I’m not angry anymore," Ferdinand clarified. He looked like he wanted to kiss her but held back. "But I won’t forgive you just yet. Tell me how your meeting came to be. Were you the one who initiated it or her?"

"It wasn’t me. It was Princess Seraphina who initiated," Arabella informed him about the letter she received from Princess Seraphina the other day.

"How were they able to send here?" Ferdinand frowned.
