Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress
Chapter 745: Overthrow the System

Chapter 745: Chapter 745: Overthrow the System

’What a cruel reality,’ Arabella thought as she nodded in understanding and let Seraphina continue.

"Me and my twin brother Prince Sebastian, were enlightened when we experienced living among the common people from which slaves were pulled from at random. We realized the constant fear and apprehension they had to survive every single day."

Princess Seraphina explained that the masters live in opulence, while the slaves endure daily hardships and unspeakable exploitation.

The current system in Crux served only to perpetuate this disparity, benefiting a privileged few while the majority suffer.Yet a lot of these masters even take pleasure in watching their slaves writhe in agony.

"It was plain madness and inhumane. Our people were not treated as people but as livestock. We realized that the current Crux was made only for those at the top while those below were only meant to suffer from their whim regardless of the consequences. It’s a path to doom," Princess Seraphina’s eyes and voice were filled with emotion even as she tried to control it.

Looking into the princess’ eyes, Arabella felt a lump in her throat as she saw with her ability, the madness Princess Seraphina had witnessed. Regardless of age, there were people getting flogged, beat up, and even killed by their masters like their existence meant nothing.

Her hands balled into fists as it reminded her of the time she saw a kid almost get flogged to death in Prudencia.

’I hope Martha and her child are doing well,’ she prayed for the two.

Arabella took a deep breath to calm herself.

What Seraphina said was exactly why the abolishment of slavery was implemented in all of Eliora.

After all, slavery was made for the masters to keep thriving while the slaves remained slaves their whole lives.

When looking at the whole scenario, it limited a kingdom’s growth and hindered its real progress. Thus, a lot of the kingdoms who once had it, had abolished it over time when they realized the negative impact it had on the kingdom.

However, there are those like Crux who remained stubborn and refused to change. They closed their doors to other kingdoms and limited the places their own people, even the nobles could visit so their twisted system would remain enforced without their people realizing how limited they were.

It was the perfect strategy for those who were controlling most of the kingdom to remain in power. They restricted travel and trade to maintain control, keeping their people ignorant of the world beyond their borders. It was a selfish tactic to preserve their power.

"I see. What do you intend to do about it then?" Arabella further probed to see what the princess and her companions were truly up to.

She gulped when Princess Seraphina’s eyes gleamed with determination as she declared, "We wish to overthrow the system!"

"Overthrow?!" Arabella blinked in astonishment at Seraphina’s bold declaration.

Still, despite Arabella’s evident shock, the princess’s determination remained palpable, her commitment to this change was unwavering as she repeated, "Yes, Your Majesty. Ten years is too long. Too many of our people would have suffered and died by then."

If what Arabella understood from those words were right, Seraphina and her faction were planning a revolution. They would replace the reigning powers.

Arabella sat in contemplative silence, absorbing Princess Seraphina’s declaration. The weight of her words hung heavily in the air, stirring a tempest of possibilities and risks.

It was a very dangerous move but might indeed bring the changes they wished for much faster than the law of abolishment of slavery in Eliora that allowed a time for gradual change.

The notion of overthrowing an entrenched system of power was no small feat, especially in a kingdom as rigid and divided as Crux.

Arabella considered the implications carefully and knew it would be a rough and perilous journey. Yet, Seraphina’s unwavering belief in a better future for her people and ending the suffering as soon as possible, was admirable.

"We want to overthrow the system," Seraphina repeated, her voice firm and resolute. Her eyes shimmered with a fierce determination Arabella did not have when she was this age in her past life.

It was a brilliant and alluring light and it made Arabella want not to disappoint this beautiful soul who dared to hope and dream for her people so fiercely.

Arabella already knew what hopelessness and disappointment felt like and she did not want this determined Seraphina to lose the fire of determination and hope in her eyes.

"I understand the gravity of your intentions, Princess Seraphina," Arabella began cautiously. "But such a task is fraught with peril. You, yourself said that the Pro-slavery faction holds significant sway within Crux, and their opposition to change will be formidable."

Arabella did not want to give false hopes either so she had to make Princess Seraphina face reality as well.

The signed law in Medeus allowed several years for the kingdoms with slavery to change gradually because people do not accept change so easily.

Those who had experienced it knew how difficult it was so they suggested giving time for the people to adapt.

A sudden and ultimate change in the system was a double edged sword that could create the reform they seek or bring forth chaos instead.

Princess Seraphina nodded, acknowledging the challenges ahead. "Yes, Your Majesty. We are fully aware of the risks. However, we believe that the time is ripe for change. The war with Valeria has exposed the vulnerabilities within Crux, and it has opened a window of opportunity for us to act."

Princess Seraphina and her companions seemed to have explored other options so Arabella inquired, "Did all other methods fail?"

"Yes, Your Majesty. We tried our best but failed. We were just on the brink of giving up. Sebastian and I had resolved to follow our father’s advice and marry outside the kingdom and never return to keep ourselves safe. We were supposed to bring Emily and Jacob with us along with other people who had also gotten tired of Crux’ system. But the issue with Valeria came and we found a new hope while our kingdom is on the brink of self-destruction."

Princess Seraphina’s words were filled with riddles despite her direct statement.
