Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 737: Defending Their People
Chapter 737: Chapter 737: Defending Their People
Arabella smiled as she read the letter. She could not help but feel emotional.
This was the first letter she received from Ferdinand and it was so sweet compared to how she once thought it would be.
Even just the way he addressed her already made her heartbeat quicken. Yet, the words that followed were even sweeter.
It felt so great to have these little sweet times with her husband even if they were not together.
It could only be an aching wish in her heart in her past life, but now it was a reality.
After everything that happened in their past life, who would have thought they would be like this someday?
It assured Arabella that there was a lot more in the future they could change. They could be happy this time.
Arabella quickly wrote her reply knowing that Ferdinand would be waiting for it even if he was busy.

To my one and only husband
Dear Ferdinand,
I am elated that you remembered to send a letter.
I also long to see and hold you. I miss you so much too.
However, I understand that we need to prioritize these matters first as a lot of people’s lives and livelihood are on the line.
I wish you all the best as you combat the pests and disease that have spread there.
I hope it will be controlled soon to stop more losses and harm to the people.
Continue to do your best. I will be here waiting and rooting for you.
I will do my best to support you from here. And, fret not since I won’t be overworking myself.
Alwin is doing a good job reminding me to eat and sleep.
As for the declaration of attack on Crux, worry not since I can do it. They are the ones who wronged our people so I do not mind having it on my name.
They had caused the death of a lot of Prudencians and made a lot more suffer in their kingdom.
Declaring the attack after they refused to listen to our warning and comply with our terms is only right.
We only want to get back our citizens. They are the ones at fault for refusing to allow us to do it peacefully even after you went and visited there last time.
They had disrespected and offended us enough and I believe it is time for stricter and more direct action.
Worry not for I will not be guilt-ridden. I worry more for our people who have lost their lives and for those who continue to suffer in their hands.
Thus, you can focus on what you need to do there.
I will work and make decisions here thinking of Valeria and our people. I will not fail you in letting me handle these matters while you are gone.
Please eat as well and catch even a bit of sleep when you can.
I look forward to the day we lessen problems in Valeria and have more time together.
Your beloved,
Arabella

Arabella took a deep breath as she folded her letter.
When she was younger, she was once naive and always thought war was an unnecessary thing that only made people suffer.
It’s true in a lot of instances. However, she had grown old enough to see that there are times when it was necessary just like now with Crux.
They had given Crux months to return all the Prudencians they had but they kept delaying things.
It was no longer something they could simply wait on. The longer they let this matter drag, the more the Prudencians suffer.
Their families were waiting and hoping to see them alive each and every single day only to be disappointed that they were not back yet.
As the rulers of Valeria, they had to end this suffering that another kingdom was inflicting on them.
They had to take their stand for the sake of their people.
Thus, Arabella did not mind being the one to declare the attack on Crux even if it meant she would have the lives of people in her hands again.
A lot of people in Crux might die since Valeria is so much stronger. But she could not let their own people die for the sake of another kingdom’s people who had oppressed and abused theirs.
As the Empress, she needed to show that she would also not take such things lying down. That she would support her people no matter what, especially in times like this.
She was the one who rekindled the hope in the Prudencians to see their family members again, thus, she cannot just watch and do nothing as their hopes were slowly doused the more time passed by.
She cannot be the one letting their hopes die. It was simply cruel.
From her experiences in the past, she knew that one of the cruelest things to do is light someone’s hope only to fail and douse it anyway.
It gives so much despair, and she didn’t want their people to keep feeling such a thing when they can do something about it.
War with Crux was a necessity after all this time.
And Arabella did not mind getting blood on her hands again. She was already determined about this when she decided she would do her best to protect Valeria and their people in this life.
People she had once failed, but now wanted to protect.
If she had managed to get blood on her hands for her revenge, then why can’t she do it now to protect their people?
Arabella didn’t mind.
It was sad for people to lose their lives. She wished it did not have to end up in a war which was why she approved of Marquess Gulliver participating in getting back their people. But even the Marquess could not do anything with all the nobles of Crux hiding and delaying things.
Even Ferdinand’s visit last time had failed to instill fear in them. While it had proven effective with some, not all were deterred.
