Chapter 556: Less Insecurities

Arabella flattered Alwin and he seemed happy about it. All of it was true though.

If Alwin had something to be insecure about, it would likely be about not growing up with his parents since he lost them when he was young. But Ferdinand, Raymond, Alvis, and the others had been there for him.

"Renee had strong insecurities because she knew what it was like to be pretty but was not blessed in the next body she occupied.

She’s not ugly but she had memories of being too beautiful in the past.

The more she had to apply more skincare and makeup every day, the more she was reminded that she was not as beautiful now as she once was in her previous life," Arabella returned their conversation to Renee.

From the thoughts she had been hearing, she noticed that those who were not blessed with the appearance they would have loved usually had more insecure thoughts.

And those people were more envious and desperate to maintain appearances. Likewise, they had to work hard on improvement or correction instead of maintenance.

It is true that everyone has their own natural charm, but that charm would not even be noticed if they do not hone it.

Especially in places like Riva which was a melting pot of many people from various territories.

Everyone had to work hard to shine in whatever way they could, or they would not even be noticed.

’Others may call it vanity, but humans are naturally vain.

We think of our race as the highest and best race.

We deny the existence of other races stronger than us because of that.

We insisted on believing that we were the most perfect creation among everyone else.

That we are the smartest and the strongest even if we were not.’

"And she ended up working for you who was known as the fairest lady of Eliora," Alwin could figure out the rest.

"Yes. Seeing me seemed to have worsened her insecurities, especially since my husband is treating me well while she experienced the exact opposite."

Arabella could still remember the terrifying obsessive and crazy look in Renee’s eyes in the memory she recovered.

"So, it frustrated her about what was right from wrong and concluded that she was not beautiful enough.

Thus, she decided to occupy your body," Alwin also recalled having to make Renee leave Arabella’s body.

"Yes. It was also because of what she experienced as Evelyn.

Her own husband did not recognize her beauty and called her ugly all the time.

He treated her like she was the ugliest woman in Zygos and even kept comparing her to everyone else.

"You may not understand how it would have felt since you have never fallen in love.

But take for instance, what if Ferdinand called you ugly all the time and kept comparing you to someone?" Arabella asked.

"I’d rather not exist than be a sore to My lord’s eyes," just the thought made Alwin shiver.

"See? But don’t worry. Ferdinand said you are an adorable brat," Arabella chuckled.

"Brat?" Alwin tilted his head.

"Yes. They think you are still young so they say that with love to refer to you as a child," Arabella quickly said so moody Alwin would not be even more moody.

"I see. But you on the other hand seem to want to refer to me as a literal brat.

You have something to nitpick about me, don’t you?" he eyed her.

"Yes. You are a spoiled brat.

You say I am one, but you are one as well.

And if I or other people would have something to nitpick about you, it would be in your attitude," Arabella teased.

"Attitude? Are you saying I have a bad attitude?" Alwin was up for another debate.

"No. Because you behave well in front of the others.

Yet, for some reason, you are always moody and filled with complaints when you are with me.

Look at that frown on your face," Arabella chuckled since the creases on Alwin’s forehead deepened.

"Huh? Me? A bad attitude? I’m quite well-mannered even with you," Alwin defended himself.

"Yes, yes. But look, you are complaining a lot so early in the morning.

Why are you so moody?

Did you not sleep well last night?

You haven’t had enough rest yet?" Arabella inquired.

She had already asked if there was something she could help with, but Alwin had shut her down yesterday saying there was nothing she could do.

"Am I? Maybe because I couldn’t sleep as much as I wanted.

That little brat we picked up from the mountains disturbed me with all her questions last night.

I couldn’t rest because she had too many questions," Alwin made an annoyed expression.

’Ah, he meant Blanca!’

"Oh, don’t be like that.

Blanca was likely just overwhelmed when you finally returned.

She was worried and depressed when you were not around," Arabella felt bad for the girl.

Blanca was older than her, but she behaved and thought like a child at times because she had spent eons asleep.

"Perhaps because she was bored without someone to annoy," Alwin harrumphed.

"She might like to annoy you indeed but that’s how children are.

Why won’t you forgive her a little since you are the older brother?" Arabella teased.

"I don’t have a sibling," Alwin quickly responded.

"Oh, right. You are the fiancé," Arabella said and Alwin almost choked on his food.

He glared at her and magically retrieved a glass of water.

"It’s just a play so she could stay here," Alwin corrected.

"Right. But you might have one soon.

A younger sibling, I mean, so you should be kinder to the younger ones even if they get annoying at times," Arabella reminded him.

"Sibling? That’s not possible. My parents are already..."

Alwin was about to say his parents were dead but realized that Arabella kept on saying Ferdinand was akin to his father.

"Wait! Are you pregnant?!" Alwin was wide-eyed and gawked at her.

Arabella covered his mouth and looked around. Thankfully no one else was there and Alwin had used a spell to prevent their conversation from leaking early on.

A/N:

I’m busy with work again but I’m so much happier doing freelance.

Days and months pass by without me noticing since I like what I am doing. Unlike in the past when I had to force myself to go to work; and every hour at the office felt like hell. Haha.
