Chapter 498: Where Did You Get Those Weapons
Chapter 498: Where Did You Get Those Weapons
"Yes. They are inside this room already," Egbert did the same and looked around warily as well.
[Huh?! That’s right. I thought it was only my imagination out of stress.]
Nadia handed Odette the documents she was holding and pulled out two small, sharp but light-looking swords out of nowhere. She stepped in front of Odette and took a fighting stance, ready for battle.
’Where did she pull that from?’ Arabella was not able to see since it was too fast.
She almost forgot that even Nadia worked as a mercenary before, so she’s also adept with the sword.
Norbert, Denzel, and Felix also drew their weapons as well.
Almost every noble son was required to learn swordsmanship and was allowed to bring a sword even into the Imperial Palace for self-defense in cases of emergencies.
After all, it wasn’t rare for nobles to get attempts on their life even in broad daylight.
Denzel and Felix glared at Narcissa but put her behind them as well, forming a circle with the others so Narcissa and Odette who cannot fight were safe in the middle.
"Right. Her Majesty got poisoned in Medeus. And then there was the assassination attempt on everyone who attended the assembly, using monsters at that. Either of them may have come here assuming that Her Majesty is already back," Norbert informed. He had lived in the northern part of Fidelis Duchy where one of the highest peaks in Valeria was found, so he was not new to fighting monsters.
Mountainous regions were said to usually have a lot of monsters and beasts lingering in them, especially during winter.
"But I heard those were done by magicians. Can anyone here use magic," Felix inquired.
They were well-updated with the current events.
"I can. But only to enhance the effects of my sword," Oscar admitted.
[Then we are basically helpless against these enemies we can’t even see.] Denzel did not dare say it out loud since their "enemies" would be able to hear it.
"Or did any of you provoke some powerful people and end up having threats on your life?" Denzel asked and glanced at Narcissa.
"Why are you looking at me?! I would never do that," Narcissa quickly replied.
[I know I can’t provoke the old houses. And why would I go provoking someone powerful who could try assassinating me?] Narcissa thought.
The conflict between her and Denzel was already normal when it came to the Ryvaleh and Farrell Households.
"If it’s not an assassination attempt on any of us, then perhaps it’s indeed on Her Majesty. Or perhaps there’s something important in the newly delivered documents. Make sure none of the documents get stolen," Norbert instructed and all of them kept watch on their table in case there was any movement.
"Your Majesty, I think we are the ones they noticed," Rendell informed.
"How could they notice us? We are inside a barrier, right?" Arabella asked Riley in a whisper.
"Yes, Your Majesty. But they must have still been able to sense that there were people watching them. They had keener senses than I thought. My apologies. I’ll use a better barrier next time."
"I see. It’s alright. You did well. At least they stopped fighting and are working together. Let’s leave for now before they panic."
They teleported back to the Magic Tower and Arabella continued watching her assistants through the magic orb.
They eased up a few minutes after Arabella and her guards left and they felt that no one was watching them anymore.
But this time, Oscar and Egbert pointed their swords at Nadia.
"Huh?! What are they doing?!" Arabella gasped.
Riley increased the volume so she could hear the conversation a bit louder.
"Those weapons. Where did you get those?" Egbert inquired. "Twin swords like that are typically used by mercenaries or assassins."
"It has the mark of the best swordsmith here in Riva. But why would you have those? I have seen those weapons displayed in their shop before. And those swords are indeed usually used by mercenaries or assassins," Oscar seconded, and the others were all alarmed.
"I received it as an award from His Majesty," Nadia defended herself.
’Ah, right. Since Nadia and her siblings all had low-grade weapons in Ferdinand’s taste, after knighting them, he said he would also award them weapons of their choice.’
Arabella and Ferdinand did not go with them since they had other matters to tend to. But Nadia and her siblings were brought to the best swordsmith in Riva to either choose a ready-made weapon or order a weapon they wanted to be made.
Nadia had chosen a ready-made one which was why Oscar had seen it before.
And it seems to have alerted him, especially since it wasn’t a common weapon of choice in Riva where mercenaries were not common since there were a lot of knights. And most especially since Nadia was supposed to be an office assistant.
They did not expect her to be able to use swords as well.
"Are you sure you are not here to spy or harm Her Majesty?" Oscar asked directly.
He meant that Nadia may have been sent here to infiltrate by someone.
"No. I will never harm Her Majesty. She saved me, my home, and my people. I am forever grateful to her, and I will never harm her. One of the reasons I wield these swords, was so I can help protect Her Majesty in case there is danger even here," Nadia asserted.
"How can we believe you? What is your proof?" Oscar was wary after what just happened earlier when they thought it was enemies who were eavesdropping on them.
Odette was about to speak, likely in Nadia’s defense, but Nadia gestured to her that it wasn’t necessary.
Nadia had her proof and she seemed confident about it.
