Chapter 474: Let’s Visit Tomorrow
Chapter 474: Let’s Visit Tomorrow
Arabella knew Riley had to return quickly since he was swamped with work since Alwin was not around.
Riley then thanked her and left since he had nothing else to report to Ferdinand. He had already said it while Arabella was asleep when Ferdinand summoned him.
’Then, this isn’t the time to be relaxing,’ Arabella closed the book she was reading and planned about what to do next instead.
Riley said that when Duke Olivier arrived at his duchy, the attempts on his life did not stop and worsened instead.
Sonia and the butler were getting desperate, likely out of fear that Dimo would suddenly return one day to expose them.
Before that happens, they were set to eliminate the Duke.
Thus, they even poisoned the Duke’s tea right when he reached home so he would have no chance to say anything to them, in case, he had somehow heard from someone that something was going on.
Thankfully, Duke Olivier did not drink it and just had it brought to his study where he had pretended to have accidentally tipped the cup and it fell to the floor.
Yet, another poisoned tea was served to the Duke, which he did not drink either.
It was clear that Sonia and the butler were in a hurry to get rid of the Duke since Dimo was still missing and they were not sure whether he was dead or alive.
They wanted to eliminate the Duke while they thought, he hasn’t heard the truth yet, nor had suspicions about why Dimo was missing.
One of the things Riley had shown Arabella in the magic orb was when Duke Olivier and Sonia were talking about Dimo.
When Duke Olivier asked for his son, Sonia lied. She made Dimo look like a hardheaded child and told him that he had suddenly run away from their castle and hadn’t been found ever since.
Sonia even cried as she pretended to worry that Dimo may have wandered to the forbidden road while the Valeria delegates were passing.
Sonia made it sound like if something happened to Dimo because he wandered into the temporarily closed-off zone, they could not do anything more about it because Valeria, or rather Ferdinand, as the rumors went, would have likely not shown mercy even to a child. Sonia even cried so much as if she was truly concerned.
Duke Olivier would have been easily convinced that Sonia was a good person and a kind mother as he used to believe if Alwin had not shown him what Dimo looked like when they found him.
But since Duke Olivier knew the truth, Arabella saw disgust and utter disappointment in his eyes as Sonia aced her act.
Sonia’s act only further proved that Dimo and Arabella were not the ones who were lying.
’Can I really act calmly in front of that lady?’ Arabella wondered.
She was so annoyed with Sonia that she might end up glaring at the latter the instant they meet.
Arabella knew exactly just how much Dimo had suffered because of Sonia before.
She knew what he once became because of Sonia. And that was exactly why she was trying to prevent that from happening again.
The young Dimo now deserved a better life. He didn’t need to suffer again and end up becoming a criminal wanted in several nations.
’We really cannot postpone the visit to Olivier anymore. But Ferdinand would return to searching for Alwin probably after dinner.’
Arabella wondered if she should go without Ferdinand. Or perhaps, Elmir or Rowan could pretend as Ferdinand and accompany her.
But while on the way to the dining hall, when she informed Ferdinand about Riley’s report...
"Let’s go tomorrow," Ferdinand said out of the blue.
"Huh?" Arabella tilted her head wondering if she had misheard.
’Did he somehow figure out what I was thinking? Did he not want me to go without him?’
"Let’s visit tomorrow," Ferdinand repeated. "I’ll have everything prepared."
"Why so suddenly? I thought we were going to delay our plan to visit there," Arabella was puzzled.
"I heard about the issue with your assistants. You want to do something about it, right?"
Ferdinand heard about it from Riley when he summoned the latter for updates.
"Once we are done with our visit to Olivier, we can show up in the palace later so you can take care of the issue with your assistants."
"Yes, but I’m not in a hurry."
Arabella didn’t want to pressure Ferdinand since Alwin had given them both warnings not to go back to Valeria until he returns. It also meant Ferdinand would have to delay his search for Alwin.
"Wouldn’t it be better to deal with it as soon as possible?"
That’s also true. But due to their situation, for now, she’s thinking of simply ensuring Odette and Nadia would not be further bullied.
She could have them help with the work here instead so Narcissa would have no one to bully there.
It was clear that Narcissa was targeting those who had lower standing than her so she could not bully those from the most powerful households in Valeria.
Ryvaleh had indeed grown so much more powerful and influential now due to Clarisse.
But Ryvaleh was once an enemy nation while the other households had been with Valeria for hundreds of years, so their influence was deep-rooted.
Narcissa could not recklessly bully them, and she clearly understood that which was why she targeted those with a much lower standing than hers.
"It’s true that Alwin told us not to go back to Valeria if he’s not yet back but the time we agreed about was a week to a month. And that time is up. I also don’t want anything wrong to happen so I will have Rowan with us along with Riley so we’re not compromising on safety either."
It was because of those magicians who were still roaming around in Eliora.
