Chapter 400: Another Exhausted Fellow
Chapter 400: Another Exhausted Fellow
Ferdinand and his knights and magicians taking care of some of the monsters that roamed near Medeus and in its outskirts helped ease the burden on the temple.
{Alwin, I heard the attackers speaking and one of them said the humanoid monster was among his latest creations. Does that mean magicians could create monsters of various appearances as they please?} Arabella inquired for her to understand the conversation.
{No. What those people do were summoning the monsters by using spells. They do not create monsters themselves. They merely summon them. But they can also summon them by using mana and allowing them to be ’born’ from it. That is akin to creating them. However, those who specialize in it can make alterations to the monster that were summoned by fiddling with the summoning spell and mana used to ’create’ them to give them various buffs and defenses. And now, they seem to have succeeded in altering one to make it have humanoid features for it to wield a weapon. It’s something that’s not done so easily. Its ’creator’ is rather powerful and probably had a lot of experience in dealing with monsters.}
"It’s unlikely that attacks would come from that kind of monster randomly it was a hybrid ’created’ by those who staged the attack earlier," Ferdinand assured the Pope.
"I’m not sure if I should be happy or even more worried. Those involved with dark magic had summoned a lot of monsters before but making it humanoid in form and even making it wield a weapon is rather troublesome," the Pope’s shoulder slumped.
He seemed to be very exhausted. Perhaps the perks of living for too long. It meant he had been working for the Temple for so long as well.
And the humanoid monsters were indeed worrisome. Since it was from Fynnia, Arabella couldn’t help but worry that they might be planning to use it in the war against Eliora they were planning to have.
"In every generation, there are always those who meddle with everything they could. You are unlucky to have encountered one," her husband replied.
"Generation? Several generations have passed but this was the only time they made a humanoid one and so strong at that," the Pope countered.
"Ah, I mean civilization. My apologies. I have watched human civilization come and go that I think as one as a generation," Ferdinand replied, and the Pope froze and sighed.
Arabella got curious about this but could not ask right now. She saved it for later.
"I see. So, it’s true that Primordials like yourself have lived way too long. So does this mean, in previous generations you have witnessed, there were always those who made humanoid ones?"
"Yes. There were always curious ones that try to create whatever came to mind once they gain the ability and opportunity to do so. Its creator was probably one of them. But it indeed rather a nuisance that they made one now. They may still be in the experimental stage."
"But if they already have a lot of those, I’m not sure the temple can handle them," the Pope admitted.
[A lot of far-flung territories were already secretly asking for assistance due to monster sightings in their area.]
"You can send those with more holy power to weaken it. Someone of your caliber would be able to incinerate it to nothingness just like my sword did," Ferdinand suggested.
’Wow, he’s that strong?!’ Arabella was amazed that a human could be that strong too.
"I see. It’s good that we do not always have to use brute force. But please do not think too highly of me. I am merely human after all. Unlike you, I do not have limitless power. My holy power is just to ward them off."
"Stop pretending to be humble. I know your power grows stronger the more worshippers the gods have. You may even be able to kill a dragon if you try your best," Ferdinand responded.
’He’s that strong?! Then, isn’t he kind of dangerous for Ferdinand’s kind?’ Arabella blinked repeatedly.
Of course, her husband was surely stronger. But it was better to be wary.
"Oh my. Please do not accuse me of such grand schemes. I have seen my comrades kill dragons but not by their own strength. And I would never even dare provoke powerful beings like yourself," the Pope said as if he hadn’t been provoking Ferdinand earlier.
"Then you better remember such words," Ferdinand reminded that the Pope already did.
"I will. I was simply testing the waters since it was my first time meeting you in person. I had survived how many generations of Valerian Emperors after all. I have always worked together with them," the Pope reminded.
"Then you better keep it up. I do not want to do tedious tasks, after all."
"Please do not say that. You must do your duty too. It’s good that I do not have to worry about all the territories you conquered. But as per the deal, the extent of your responsibility is not limited to the Empire. My magicians and fighters are already overworked while your overpowered knights are lounging around in your palace. Don’t you think Your Majesty should send out some of your knights or magicians to other parts of the continent, especially now that Valeria had joined the Council? Ah, and other nearby islands too. I had been getting requests for help from the islands near Eliora."
The Pope began to rant. Arabella could tell he was indeed exhausted.
"I had been hunting monsters quite a lot, don’t you think? Ever since I came here and was old enough to be allowed to hunt, I had been going wherever I heard strong monsters were lurking. You were getting used to me doing all the work, so you were lazing around. Now that I laid low for a bit, you are complaining. Don’t you think it’s your fault for failing to train your magicians and fighters better?" Ferdinand countered.
