Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 354: Slip Up
Chapter 354: Slip Up
Arabella learned from Fatima’s thoughts that she was indeed a traitor. She had betrayed Evelyn right from the start.
Fatima did feel bad that Evelyn had to lose her life but Fatima believed it was a necessity so it couldn’t be helped.
Fatima thought that she merely did what she had to do so it wasn’t her fault, and that it was Evelyn’s for being so gullible.
Arabella didn’t learn what exactly happened, but Fatima had a part in it.
She could infer from what she heard that Fatima fooled Evelyn and pretended to be a friend in order to eliminate her and be the next Queen.
’How could I hate Renee if she had experienced so much and had also been used just like me?’
They had indeed been in somewhat alike circumstances.
Arabella hated the fact that Renee used her to get what she wanted.
But she couldn’t completely hate her because she had also been a victim. And she wasn’t even who she thought she was.
’Did she perhaps, use me to pass the pain to others?’
There were different kinds of people.
There were those who didn’t like to make other people experience the suffering they had gone through because they knew how painful it was.
But there were those who were the exact opposite and let out their frustration and pain to other people to feel like their suffering had lessened.
They pass the suffering to others so they wouldn’t be the only ones suffering and for them not to feel like they were the ones at the bottom of the food chain.
Renee may have had that kind of thought.
Arabella sighed deeply.
She decided to focus on work.
She was in her study in the mansion trying to do some work but got distracted for a bit so she asked for tea.
Renee came to deliver it.
’Perfect timing. I should ask her if she had made any success in learning about the truth.’
But before Arabella could...
[What should I do?
How will I tell Her Majesty, I would quit by today?
She told me not to do anything, but out of anger, I already did.]
’What?! What did she do?!’
Arabella was horrified upon hearing Renee’s thoughts.
She learned that Renee was able to verify, Fatima had been in cahoots with Chester.
And due to her grief and fury, Renee decided to poison Fatima first and let Chester watch his Queen die.
And next, Renee planned to go to Zygos and poison Fatima and Chester’s children.
Renee wanted Chester to experience suffering before he dies. Thus, she wanted to eliminate his family first.
Arabella wanted to know what Renee learned for her to decide to do something like this. But she didn’t have the chance to do so because of Renee’s following thoughts.
[It was all their fault.
If not because of them, I wouldn’t have to abandon this life.
But I can’t forgive them.
Never.
Especially that bitch who dared to pretend to be my friend while ruining my life.
She should die painfully by today.
The poison would make her suffer pain for several hours before she dies.
Suits her well.
She deserved it for everything she had done.
I will never forgive her even in my next life if I meet her again.] Renee thought vengefully.
Arabella accidentally dropped her cup when she learned that Renee had already done something to poison Fatima who was scheduled to be in a tea party outdoors with Lucille’s mother, Queen Lucinda.
Poison was added to the pastries to be served at the tea party.
And the tea party had already begun.
"Your Majesty?!"
Alwin and Rendell both entered her study.
Renee was the only one with her so they instantly thought Renee could have done something to her or poisoned the tea.
"Everything’s alright. My hands slipped due to writing for long," Arabella quickly said before they did something.
"Renee, go fetch someone to clean this," she instructed Renee who was frozen in nervousness. She was jumpy because of what she had done.
"Y-yes, Your Majesty," Renee stiffly walked out of the room.
Once she was gone, Arabella made Rendell go back to his post and made Alwin remain in her study.
"Alwin, quickly!
Go stop Queen Fatima’s tea party.
Get rid of the pastries or do whatever you can to ensure no one eats them.
Just make sure Queen Fatima doesn’t die today.
Quickly!
They are at the flower garden near the Zygos delegates’ accommodation," Arabella said in a panic.
"Y-Your Majesty, what are you talking about?! Did Evania do something?" Alwin was wide-eyed.
[The one I assigned to watch her hadn’t reported anything!]
"Yes! I don’t know exactly how.
She may have met Marcus or something.
She already knows Fatima had betrayed her and she somehow managed to poison the pastries for Fatima’s tea party right now.
Go stop it first. Let’s talk later.
If Fatima dies today, we will get implicated," Arabella grabbed Alwin’s cloak.
[Right! I can’t let Valeria get involved in this.]
"I’ll take my leave then.
Please do not ever leave this mansion while I am away.
Especially since His Majesty’s not back yet.
Riley will watch over you and that maid," Alwin glanced at her hands and Arabella let go of his cloak.
She didn’t even realize she grabbed it.
Alwin vanished the next second.
Arabella paced around in her study as she waited for Alwin to return.
What if Fatima was already poisoned?
If Fatima dies because of Renee who was still her maid, Arabella could be seen as the mastermind.
Ferdinand, no, not just him.
Valeria would also get implicated.
Their talks with Zygos which had gone well despite everything, would end. And Valeria might get into a war with Zygos.
A war with Zygos meant war with Griffith and Fynnia too.
They shouldn’t let that happen no matter what.
Two continents at the same time would be difficult even for Valeria.
Lightning flashed and thunderclaps resounded all of a sudden and heavy rains poured out of the blue.
It became torrential rain accompanied by strong gusts of wind as if a storm had arrived.
Arabella somehow knew this was Alwin’s doing.
It hadn’t rained in Medeus since they arrived for the Assembly, and it was still summer.
Renee returned with other maids to clean the broken cup and spilled tea.
They were also surprised at the sudden rain and focused on closing the windows first.
