Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 352: Chester’s Magician
Chapter 352: Chester’s Magician
The Assembly continued without any problems.
Several days passed and Arabella noticed something was wrong with her.
The more days that pass, the more she missed Ferdinand much more than usual.
She didn’t like it when she sensed his presence going farther and farther away from her.
One day, the knights reported sightings of monsters in Medeus.
It was unusual since monsters do not usually appear in Medeus.
Ferdinand decided to check it himself since he hadn’t hunted for a while. Thus, he left with Riley.
Arabella began to feel weird when she sensed him getting too far.
The more hours that passed, the more she felt nervous.
Her heart was drumming in her chest like crazy as she began having all sorts of negative thoughts out of worry.
She began to get restless and paced around in her study wondering why he wasn’t back yet.
And then...
She tensed when she stopped feeling his presence all of a sudden.
’Did something happen to him?!!’
Suddenly not sensing his presence after getting used to it for several days was terrifying.
Arabella suddenly found it hard to breathe and she soon began hyperventilating.
Her body hurt too. She was trembling.
Alwin tried to heal her and make her calm down, but he couldn’t.
[Ah, it seems His Majesty marked her but hadn’t gone all the way with her yet. It’s still incomplete so they are both unstable. His Majesty must be feeling it too. But it must be worse on Her Majesty.]
Since Arabella got too worked up and Alwin could not do anything about it, he contacted Riley.
It connected successfully and Ferdinand teleported with Riley when he heard about her condition.
"I’m so sorry. I was chasing after a monster and I got out of your range," Ferdinand apologized and carried her in his arms.
The nervousness and worry. The unreasonable fear that something had happened to her husband. The pain and the trembling of her body.
It all gradually stopped.
She could finally breathe normally again too.
And sensing Ferdinand’s presence while she was in his arms was so reassuring.
It was all so weird and shocking.
Arabella didn’t like the feeling in the least bit.
Her husband explained that it was an after-effect of the marking.
They were supposed to mate right after the marking but they didn’t go all the way so it wasn’t truly complete yet. Thus, being away from each other would be difficult.
Ferdinand had a wider range so he could still sense Arabella’s presence but hers was a shorter distance which was why she stopped sensing him when he got out of her range.
And the more days that passed, the more Arabella found it harder to be away from her husband.
She began yearning to see him much more than she used to.
When he was gone for several hours, she would begin asking Alwin if her husband was alright.
She became kind of obsessed with Ferdinand even when she tried to stop it.
It was so distracting since it made focusing on work hard but she simply couldn’t help it.
And she had a lot of things to watch out for too.
Thankfully, Renee hadn’t made any move yet.
Arabella and Alwin had been closely observing her, but Renee was yet to conclude what to do. She was still trying to verify if Fatima had indeed conspired with Chester.
It was a relief since they didn’t want Renee to make any moves yet.
If she does, they had no choice but to stop her one way or the other.
However, on another hot summer day, Arabella and Alwin learned something important.
Arabella was at a tea party with the queens. Rendell and Alwin (disguised) were with her as her guards.
The tea party was held at one of the garden pavilions of the Grand Palace.
Fatima was there too.
And when the tea party was over, Chester came to pick up his wife. He was followed by his guard knights as usual.
But one thing stood out.
There was a cloaked man among Chester’s entourage.
A magician judging from his choice of attire and the rings on his fingers. He had a staff too.
The magician looked like he was in his late twenties or early thirties. His skin was too pale as if he lacked exposure to the sun.
’He looks familiar.’
Arabella frowned.
She felt like she had met him before. And for some reason, she knew she didn’t like him in the least bit.
[This presence! It’s the magician Marcus!]
Arabella gasped and covered her mouth upon hearing Alwin’s thoughts.
Now, she knew who she was reminded of upon seeing the cloaked man.
[I have to ensure he doesn’t meet with Evania. This is way too early. She was supposed to encounter Marcus much later.] Alwin’s lips pursed.
Since Alwin himself recognized him, this man must indeed be Marcus.
’So, Marcus was among King Chester’s people all along?! He was his magician?’
It made her wonder if, in her past life, Marcus had toyed around with Renee and was actually in cahoots with King Chester.
But in the past life, Marcus planned to occupy Ferdinand’s body. Meaning, Marcus betrayed King Chester for the sake of greater power.
And Fermin was used for that purpose?
She didn’t see Marcus’ face before but merely seeing him now made her blood boil.
This was the culprit who poisoned Fermin!
Even if Fermin was still alive in Estrella, he still died in his human body.
He felt the pain of getting poisoned and experienced death once. And he was just twelve at the time.
She had promised to live differently in this life and atone for her sins.
She thought she could give a second chance even to those who harmed her before. But Marcus. He was an exception.
Arabella would never forgive this magician.
She had to see to it that this man suffers excruciatingly before experiencing death.
She didn’t mind killing him herself if she could.
It seems there were things she simply could not forget.
Further, Marcus was also the one who had been instructing Renee on what to do.
He could be the one who toyed with Arabella and had her fed with false information.
"What’s wrong, Your Majesty? Are you feeling uncomfortable or something?" Rendell inquired.
[Her Majesty’s aura turned dark all of a sudden. She seems furious. Did someone disrespect her, and I didn’t notice?] Rendell observed their surroundings.
"Ah, no I’m fine. I just saw someone I didn’t like," Arabella managed to fake a smile.
[Her Majesty doesn’t seem to like Chester and his cohorts. That’s good. It will help prevent Evania from encountering them again.]
Alwin noticed her gaze was directed at Chester’s group.
[Ah, Her Majesty must be furious since His Majesty told her about his conversation with King Chester.]
Rendell also misunderstood.
"My Empress."
Arabella turned upon hearing her husband’s voice.
He came to pick her up too.
Seeing his face and hearing his voice was such a relief at a time like this.
She embraced him in front of everyone instead of simply taking his hand.
Ferdinand was surprised at first since he wasn’t expecting it at all. He smiled and embraced her too.
[HE SMILED?!!!]
Everyone was flabbergasted at the loving smile and gentle look on Ferdinand’s face.
He was usually in emperor mode when they were with the other royals, after all.
"Did you miss me?" Ferdinand playfully asked.
"Yes," her yearning for him was honestly getting worse.
She had simply been away from him for three hours yet, it felt like days.
"Let’s leave quickly then," Ferdinand scooped her up and walked to the carriage.
Everyone whispered while they walked away.
Their voices were still audible though.
"Oh my! So, it’s true she likes the Dark Emperor?"
"That smile and expression on his face was unbelievable."
"She was indeed able to make the Dark Emperor fall in love?"
Everyone had all sorts of comments. But someone thought the opposite of everyone else.
[Heh. They are making a show because of what I said last time. But I can tell they still hadn’t gone all the way.] Chester did not believe what he saw.
