Chapter 347: Affirmation
Chapter 347: Affirmation
"What I wanted to say is that Alwin is so beautiful. Both men and women get attracted to him. He is even prettier than me and he knows you much more than I do. So, I’m saying I’m the one who should be worried he might snatch you away from me, not the other way around since he’s not even interested in any lady so far."
"What are you talking about? No one can compare to your beauty. Not even Alwin. He is indeed very pretty. But you are more beautiful and striking in every way," her husband’s eyes were clouded by his feelings.
Arabella could at least admit to herself that Alwin was more beautiful than she was.
Especially if he was a woman. But even as a man, she was on the losing end.
That’s another reason she would never be attracted to him.
He was simply too beautiful.
She adored his elven beauty, but she liked elves far too much to even think of marrying one or even just thinking about them in a romantic way.
She would never dare even if she had the chance.
She thought of them as something untouchable, so she only thought of being something like a sister, a friend, or an ally to Alwin.
Never as a lover.
Alwin doesn’t find her charming in the least bit too. And he doesn’t seem to prefer men either. She was only making a point to Ferdinand.
She knew Alwin was simply just disinterested in everything else at the moment aside from proving himself to Ferdinand and making sure Ferdinand becomes happy instead of suffering what happened in their past life.
"Fine. If that’s how you see it, then so be it. I won’t complain at all if you think of me that way," Arabella said, and her husband chuckled lightly.
[She likes it when I say it. Should I say it more often?]
"I’m not saying Alwin is gay either. I was just saying that to make my point clear. But he is indeed somewhat obsessed with you. He is so loyal and attached to you, not me," Arabella told her husband just in case he was ignorant of the fact.
"Ah, we did notice that Alwin got a bit too attached to me since I was the one who picked him up when his parents died. That’s why I originally didn’t want to rely on him, but he insisted to be the one who went with me to Valeria. It should have been Zion."
’Oh, he actually knows too.’
"Is that why you are being mean to him? Are you trying to disappoint him, so he won’t look up to you too much," Arabella peeked at her husband’s face.
"Yes, something like that. He seems to think too highly of me. He is putting me on such a high pedestal when I’m not even as good as he believes. So, I thought I should make him distance himself from me, but it hadn’t been working. I’m trying to set him up too, so he begins looking for his mate and leaves my side once he does, but it’s not working either."
Ferdinand apparently tried to make Alwin leave so he could grow.
Her husband feared Alwin might be limiting his possibilities by just staying on his island most of the time.
After all, Ferdinand grew up learning by experience. Thus, he wanted Alwin to experience the world too.
Ferdinand had even spoken to Raymond and Alwin’s other elders in Estrella.
They were also worried Alwin was too focused on pleasing Ferdinand and stopped chasing what he wanted to do.
Or he doesn’t realize what he truly wanted because he was simply following Ferdinand around.
The ruler of the elves had apparently offered Alwin to learn elven magic directly from him in the past, but Alwin refused since he believed what he learned from Ferdinand was already more than enough.
But they knew Alwin was secretly studying elven magic and all sorts of magic on his own. Thus, they got elven teachers for him too and he surpassed them all.
Seeing Alwin’s growth, Raymond and the others agreed to Ferdinand trying to make Alwin leave his side so he could further grow.
But their tactic of making Alwin leave was doing the opposite.
Alwin only kept thinking he needed to prove himself to Ferdinand. He did not even notice what Ferdinand and his elders were trying to do.
"Ah, Alwin does think highly of you. You must have taught him very well, so he knows just how good you are," Arabella nodded her head.
"But I believe, another reason was because he thinks of you as his family. Like a father to a son.
He doesn’t have family, right?
Maybe, he thinks of you as something like his father. I guess that’s why he wants to prove himself to you so badly.
Since you were the one who picked him up, sheltered him, and taught him since he was young, he wanted to show you he was worth your time and effort.
That you didn’t waste all these years teaching him and watching him grow.
Maybe, he wanted to know if you think he was good enough now. Or does he need to improve more before you can approve of him?"
Arabella remembered Fermin having a stage like that.
Fermin was still so young then, but he wanted to show Arabella that he was good enough and did his best in his studies and even his swordsmanship lessons.
He came to brag to her all the time looking for affirmation that he was doing well and was on the right path.
He wanted to make her proud of him too.
Perhaps, Alwin was looking for that too since in elven years, he was still young but already filled with so much knowledge, power, and responsibilities because he was a prodigy.
But even a prodigy needs affirmation and affection.
"No, Alwin is already more than good enough. He had surpassed everyone I taught magic so far.
I think he might even be already better than me when it comes to magic.
He’s such a fast learner.
I’ve lived for so long, but he is the best prodigy I’ve met so far. He was so young when I began teaching him, but he learned everything so quickly."
Arabella smiled at her husband’s words.
