Chapter 328: Donation [Bonus Chapter]

Arabella’s visits to Prudencia and Safiro helped a lot of people, but they also triggered quite dangerous enemies.

[It seems there are more people out there who are targeting my wife. We need to find them before they get to do anything more.] Ferdinand held her hand and gently pressed it, assuring her that he would do his best to protect her from all of it.

Ferdinand decided that Lindon would be used as bait for his accomplices. They would only imprison him in the meantime to lure out his master, or at least some of his allies, which in turn, they could use for more information gathering.

This was so they could crush the source itself instead of just the underlings who were simply following instructions and were replaceable.

Ferdinand’s goal was to completely eliminate the threat instead of letting them gain more power over time.

"Well done, Alwin. Take some rest for now. We will discuss this more later," Ferdinand copied Arabella and sent Alwin for a break.

Alwin’s eyes shined. He was elated to have received praise from Ferdinand after a long while.

And with Lindon imprisoned, they could focus on the Assembly again.

It might take several days to weeks before Lindon’s allies learn he was missing. Thus, they had some time on their hands to prepare. They might even be back in Valeria by then.

Likewise, the rulers from other nations stopped being suspicious of each other after Jacob and Adolfo were executed. Thus, the Council was more orderly again. When they were suspicious of each other, it made cooperating difficult.

Lindon successfully sowed discord and doubt even if the assassination attempt on Arabella and framing Lucille did not succeed. With the matter resolved, it at least reassured the rulers none of them were sabotaging or betraying the Council during such critical times.

Thankfully, Jacob and Adolfo didn’t have the chance to reveal what they knew about Lucille’s former plot against Arabella and Andrew.

If Lucille was revealed as the culprit, Eliora would be filled with distrust if it got out that the daughter of the current Head of the Council attempted to set up the Empress of Valeria whose husband, they were working hard to win over to join the Council for the sake of the continent.

This was the main reason Arabella preferred for Lucille to be punished in secret.

Likewise, Lucille wouldn’t have the chance to change if she became an outcast in the social circle. She might get worse and become a true villain instead if everyone turned against her.

Arabella didn’t want that to happen, so she was content with how Lucille was punished. It also lessened the possibility of Lucille still hating her even more and going to further measures just to express it. She wouldn’t have to worry about Lucille trying to exact revenge on her.

Jacob had no surviving family so there was no one from his side to seek revenge for him. He wasn’t known to have friends either since he only busied himself with magic and earning more and more money.

Meanwhile, Adolfo had family members. They were not executed since they had no part in the assassination attempt.

Adolfo’s children might hate Arabella and seek revenge due to what happened to their father. They might try to harm her in the future once they regain their power and influence.

But in the meantime, they would probably focus on keeping their family stable and searching for another kind of business. She could worry about them later.

After all, the profits Adolfo got from selling Prudencians as slaves were confiscated by the Council. It was turned over to Valeria.

It caused a huge dent in Adolfo’s assets.

It was an exorbitant amount which even the Council wanted some part in. But they were trying to please Ferdinand. Thus, they returned all of it instead of getting a part to be allocated for the improvement of Medeus.

Ferdinand donated ten percent (10%) to the Council though for the improvement of security in Medeus. He fully believed that security there was lacking and had a lot of loopholes.

It was also kind of a courtesy for King Neville who pushed through the abolishment of slavery and helped them in getting the trial and execution of Jacob and Adolfo to go smoothly. It was also for the efforts of those who joined the investigative team the elderly King organized.

Meanwhile, Adolfo’s last thoughts before he was executed, still bothered Arabella.

Adolfo had a point after all. In kingdoms like Crux that had slavery deeply rooted in their culture and even in their political system, a lot of people depended on it.

Just abolishing slavery, itself was not enough. They needed to provide work opportunities for those who would lose their source of income due to it or else it would cause further problems.

Arabella was thinking of a solution for it, like for instance, what work could be offered to them. But it was complicated since it would depend upon what they could do and what country they were in. It had to be the country itself to provide work opportunities too.

Valeria couldn’t really meddle in it.

At a loss for what to do, Arabella told her husband since he might have ideas. Dragons were said to be wise though they were temperamental and moody.

When she said that the people involved in slave trading would need other work opportunities for them to be able to change careers, Ferdinand donated 20% of the money to the families of those who worked in the slave trade industry who would voluntarily quit and find other work instead.

It was a sort of reward and subsidy at the same time. They could also use it to start a small business or get by while they were still looking for other job opportunities.

The Council would oversee ensuring the money was used properly.

Meanwhile, the nations in Eliora would then be the ones to think about the job opportunities they could offer.
