Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress
Chapter 219: His Childhood

Chapter 219: His Childhood

"It must have been hard with no one there to guide you," Arabella thought out loud. She felt bad as she thought about how Ferdinand’s childhood would have been.

She surmised it must have been rough without a parent at all since he was not born.

But how did the God of Dragons have them raised?

She wondered if he assigned someone to take care of Ferdinand and the others when they were young.

What kind of influence were they on Ferdinand? Did they treat him well or not? She was curious how his childhood went.

"Ah, yes. It was indeed a bit challenging not having someone to guide me," Ferdinand made a weird expression.

[That bastard who created me just left me and everyone else wherever he wanted.]

Arabella wondered if it was alright that her husband was referring to the God of Dragons as a bastard. He closely resembled the God of Dragons but Ferdinand doesn’t seem to like his creator that much.

But she didn’t have time to wonder about that anymore after what she saw in her husband’s recollection of the past.

[He created me and just left me in a cave. I just slept for a while until I got hungry. There was barely anything alive near me except for fish.]

Arabella gulped as she had a glimpse of the reflection of a small cute dragon looking at a pool of water.

’This is Ferdinand?!’

From his silver color and green eyes, it was indeed her husband. He was so cute when he was small. His dragon form she saw in Estrella in her dream was massive compared to this.

A fish swam by and he tried to catch it with his claws but he failed. He almost fell into the water instead but thankfully regained his balance.

’He looks so adorable!’

Ferdinand was just the size of a mature cat as he tried to fish for his own food. The God of Dragons apparently did not provide anything.

Ferdinand just woke up in a cave one day and kept sleeping. When he felt hungry, he went out and everything was covered in snow. He was in a snow-covered mountain range.

As he kept wandering, searching for food by instinct, he found fish in a nearby lake. It was also frozen so he could only fish if there was a part that only had thin ice or if he could break the ice with his claws.

’He had to survive in a such barren and desolate place ever since he was created?!’

It didn’t sit right with Arabella that he was just left there on his own devices when he was akin to a newborn.

[All I could eat for years was fish since I couldn’t fly yet. Damn, I didn’t even know I could fly someday. It was only after some time passed that I was able to hunt other creatures once my body grew bigger and I could explore farther. It was embarrassing to think I once fell prey to animals who grew faster than I did.]

It was survival of the fittest out there and Ferdinand, as he referred to himself, was apparently just another ’weakling’ at first because it took so long for him to grow compared to the other creatures that he soon discovered in the mountains.

[If there was more food when I was just created I would have grown faster. My growth was much slower compared to the other dragons because of my location. And only after I fell off a cliff when there was an avalanche did I learn I could actually fly.]

’A-avalanche?!!’

[Discovering my abilities only happened in life-and-death scenarios. And being able to turn into human form and having my own consciousness took even longer. If that bastard gave me a sound mind or at least a bit of guidance right from the start I wouldn’t have had to mindlessly wander for so long.] Ferdinand internally complained.

Arabella realized her husband didn’t have a fun childhood at all. He was all alone and learned everything on his own by experience in a very dangerous place.

He was apparently like any other animal who only slept, ate, and fought when there were other creatures who encroached near his abode. And since food was scarce, it took a long time for him to grow while the other creatures near him grew bigger much more quickly in the span of months and began to reproduce.

Ferdinand who was all alone and still small became the prey. He was exposed to a lot of danger fighting for food with those he could fight and running away from other predators who were much bigger and stronger than he was at the time.

It wasn’t in the least bit a pretty or fun childhood.

[After I learned everything I needed and lived for so long that I was bored with my life, that bastard finally showed up. And all of a sudden he was acting like he was my father and asked for grandchildren. He wanted me to mate. Who would want to procreate after everything I went through just to survive? I did grow strong but I don’t want to have children if they would experience all that I did. And I didn’t want to give that damn, bastard any gratification. But now, he used orders and oracles to make me bend instead.]

Ferdinand’s eyes darkened in anger as he recalled the God of Dragons suddenly appearing before him when he was already able to transform into human form. He hated it even more that he resembled the God of Dragons so much.

He didn’t want to think of the God of Dragons as his father since he was never one for him. Ferdinand had watched the animals and humans interact for a long time by then to understand how a family was supposed to be.

[He was simply my creator. But I never wanted to be created anyway.] On Ferdinand’s part, he was better off not being created at all.

’That’s such a sad thought.’

Arabella had to wonder just how much more suffering had her husband gone true to wish he wasn’t created at all.

She gave Ferdinand a tight hug.

[Is she trying to comfort me? How adorable. To think this day would come...] Ferdinand hugged her tighter than she did and kissed her.
