Chapter 186: Just Ferdinand’s Butler [Bonus Chapter]

’She knows!’ Arabella stared at her cup and took a sip to hide the excitement in her eyes.

Arabella learned so much from their thoughts as she conversed with the Reginalds.

Among them, she learned that Theresa was even more horrified when Regis brought her to Estrella and showed his true form.

Regis was an elf and he was working for the King of Estrella.

There was just a bit of difference between the appearance of an elf and a human but Theresa was still horrified.

Being married and in love with something not human also made her question herself and her sanity for falling for Regis. Especially since Eliora and the rest of the world do not accept monsters or the existence of other beings for that matter.

Theresa also formerly thought of Regis as a monster even though he explained that monsters and the long-lived races were different. She could not accept Regis and demanded divorce even more.

But Ronald was already three years old then. And he was half-elf. If they divorce, Ronald would be in Regis’ custody and would be brought to Estrella. Theresa might never see him again.

Rejecting Regis also meant rejecting her own child, Ronald. If Regis was a monster, then so was Ronald.

Theresa’s love for her child made her think twice. Thus, she did her best to calm down and think things through.

[He’s not even my child but he had been treating me as if I was truly his mother. He had been respectful towards Regis as well and had been a good role model to Ronald.] Theresa smiled as Raymond poured tea for her.

[Why is he doing this? He could have just let the servants pour the tea.] Ronald raised a brow at Raymond’s actions.

Raymond was just trying to be polite to Theresa though since in official records, Raymond was Theresa’s son. The story they made was that Raymond had been recuperating in the provinces when he was young so everyone thought Ronald was the first child.

Regis, Theresa, and Raymond all thought Ronald believed their tale as well. However, Arabella learned from his thoughts that it was otherwise.

Ronald had a powerful memory and remembered the events from when he was three onwards. Thus, he knew Raymond was not really his mother’s son.

Ronald remembered his mother’s grief and suffering at that time. But he didn’t know about the part about the long-lived races so he thought Raymond was the fruit of his father’s affair with some unknown woman and yet he became the Prime Minister after Regis.

And Raymond was acting like a perfect son so Ronald thought that his mother did not have a chance to complain about anything even if she may still be hurting deep inside since Raymond was too perfect.

’This is getting complicated,’ Arabella now had more clue why Ronald was so wary of Raymond.

Ronald did recognize Raymond’s skills and capabilities which was why he was even more frustrated and always tried to improve himself more.

’Poor kid. He doesn’t know he’s competing with someone so far out of his league. Raymond had thousands of years of experience. He is already good enough now. In a few more years, he would be even more competent. There was no need to rush.’

[I should have been mature at the time and didn’t treat even a child so badly.] Theresa thought and Arabella wondered if she had mistreated Raymond to a great extent for her to regret it even after so many years had passed.

Regis held Theresa’s hand under the table when he noticed she was thinking about the past again.

[Why is she still feeling guilty about that? I already told her Raymond was not even really a kid when he came here. Only his appearance was.] Regis apparently doesn’t make the two meet since his wife keeps feeling bad about the past.

Arabella learned that at the time Theresa’s only comfort was when she learned that Raymond was not Regis’ son. He did not lie to her when he proposed to her and she was his only lover.

Regis only used it as an excuse so he could bring Raymond into the Reginald Household and make him the next Prime Minister since he was Ferdinand’s right hand.

Raymond was only in the form of a child since it was the form the God of Dragons give them when they head to the human realm so they could also learn and adapt to how human society function, since to the long-lived races, humans change so rapidly.

[I wonder if Her Majesty would take a liking to His Majesty. I heard she even eloped with a former lover. He was so furious and hurt that we were worried His Majesty might go mad and attack Lahar and kill the brat who dared to run away with his supposed bride. But he surprisingly didn’t when he heard her relationship soon ended.] Regis pondered.

Arabella was relieved that her parents brought her back at that time. If they didn’t, Andrew may be dead now and Lahar in flames. She would have still caused so many deaths even without marrying Ferdinand.

[He was so eager to marry her so why was he leaving her all alone and making Raymond take care of her? Things would get complicated if she doesn’t accept him. Or was he planning to just let her live her days here in the human realm and return to Estrella once she dies of old age?]

Arabella flinched at that. She wanted to know about Ferdinand’s plans too. She wanted him to speak with her about it.

[If he keeps acting like this, he would experience far worse than I did with my wife.]

Arabella learned from Regis’ thoughts that Theresa was cold to him and Raymond for a year until she realized that they didn’t live and act so differently from humans. They were almost the same except for the fact they had a different form back in Estrella and had various abilities.

Theresa soon accepted Raymond and stayed with Regis. Her only problem with Raymond was the fact that he acted like an adult even though he was still in the body of a child.

When Theresa pointed it out, Raymond did learn to act like a child when there are other people around.

And soon, Ferdinand, Alwin, and more of Ferdinand’s people were also brought to Estrella. Raymond educated them on the current human ways since the ones they knew were from several generations ago.
