Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 179: Perfect Excuse
Chapter 179: Perfect Excuse
[His Majesty looks happy.]
[Should I get married too?]
[The usual dark aura oozing from the Emperor is gone.]
[His Majesty doesn’t look bored anymore.]
[His Majesty seems to have found the person that makes his days feel worthwhile.]
[The Emperor is no longer as grumpy as before. He used to get irritated so easily but he had been calmer these days.]
Arabella was flooded with thoughts from the knights. They had all sorts of opinions.
But more than anything, the knights were happy and envious at the same time to see that their Emperor was getting along well with his Empress.
This made Arabella wonder how Ferdinand usually was before they got married.
She wanted to be able to speak with some of the knights in the future and ask about it. Or perhaps, she should just ask Rendell.
It was true though that the dark aura Ferdinand had when they first met in Lobelius was no longer there. It only reappears when he was irritated or feeling depressed.
"I await your safe return, Your Majesty," Arabella responded and Ferdinand smiled.
[Why does hearing those words from her make me feel all warm inside? Now, I want to give her another hug. I am even more reluctant to leave. But I have to.]
To the knights’ delight, Ferdinand turned around and embraced her one last time.
It showed how he was reluctant to leave her side.
The knights cheered for another kiss but Ferdinand didn’t listen to them this time. He climbed up his huge stead and Rendell handed him his helmet and gauntlets.
’He looks both so cool and scary wearing full body armor.’
Seeing Ferdinand in his war armor again reminded her of his reputation.
Her husband looked gallant and heroic to their knights and their people. But he must look like a demon or a grim reaper to their enemies.
’With Ferdinand showing himself at the borders in his signature war attire, Crux would surely be shaken. I hope they accept our terms and return the people of Prudencia so this won’t have to be bloody.’
She knew her husband and his knights were strong.
They would surely win if a war erupted.
But war was never beautiful. It had always been an ugly sight no matter who the victor was.
The casualties would be no joke. She had already made a lot of people die in Valeria before. She doesn’t want more people to die as a result of her actions again.
’Please stay safe,’ she internally prayed for everyone.
Arabella watched until Ferdinand and the knights were teleported by Alwin.
The travel time to the northern borders would take twelve days on horseback but more if they had heavy equipment with them so they teleported instead.
It would take a lot of Alwin’s mana but he had a lot and recovers easily so it was alright.
Arabella then retired to her room for the night. She took a long time in the bath pondering over the things she had to do. So she could remain focused on her goals, she pushed the naughty times with Ferdinand to the back of her mind.
The following day, she focused on categorizing the work she would distribute to all her assistants once they begin working.
There was also some work sent to her office so she did that as well.
Ivan was also there already doing the work assigned to him. He was there so early in the morning and had to wait until she arrived.
Arabella had to explain to the guards and her maids that Ivan and her other assistant are allowed to enter her office even when she was not present.
Her table was separated by a divider and curtains like an inner room in the innermost part of her office anyway. It was not accessible to anyone else unless it was opened with her key.
Once her key was used, the divider itself would be gone. They use the key on a keyhole in the wall, and the divider would reappear.
It was set up with magic in such a manner as to prevent important documents from getting stolen.
There was also a small hidden area near her table imbued with a teleportation magic circle that she could use to teleport to the safety of her room in case she needs it.
It was also to allow her to be safe in the inner room and escape in cases of emergency.
Arabella was rather very much impressed with it when she was first toured in her office.
Thus, with all those, even if she was not around, her table and files were secure.
Her assistants could also work even without her as long as their tasks were already assigned and distributed.
"Your Majesty..."
Arabella was busy working when Eunice came inside with a message.
"Your Majesty, His Excellency, the Prime Minister is here to give you a gift from his wife," Eunice informed.
"Oh, lead him to the receiving area and prepare some tea."
Arabella headed there as well and did her best to act normal despite feeling a bit hyped since she already knew what this was about.
Raymond came in with the said package in hand and greeted her.
"Your Majesty, I brought a gift from my wife. She wanted to thank you for the flower necklace you gave to our daughter last time," Raymond said the perfect excuse.
[Thank goodness I recalled this. I wasn’t able to hand it to His Majesty last night since he suddenly wanted to leave for the borders because he couldn’t hold back.]
Raymond apparently spent hours pondering over what reason he would use for suddenly giving Arabella a gift. Thankfully, they haven’t had the chance to give a return gift for the necklace and brooch their children received the last time they had tea together.
"Oh my, thank you. You didn’t have to bother though. It simply suited your adorable daughter so I gave it to her," Arabella said as if she wasn’t eager to accept the gift.
