Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 124: Another Visit
Chapter 124: Another Visit
With Arabella believing in the existence of the dryad, Alwin smoothly completed his reports. There was also more than enough proof gathered to convict Count Dempsey once he was caught.
Raymond prepared the necessary documents for the arrest and Ferdinand signed them.
With everything ready, they decided it was time to capture Dempsey.
Alwin teleported Ferdinand and the knights to Count Dempsey and Safiro.
Raymond was left in the palace to take care of more paperwork and ensure the supplies for Safiro were prepared quickly.
Meanwhile, Arabella went to the Imperial Kitchen to check the food preparation.
She was still bothered by Ferdinand’s thoughts earlier but she decided to focus on Safiro for now.
Everything that was happening was more complicated than she ever thought.
Dempsey’s magician was very powerful to have been able to use spells to affect the minds of the people in both Dempsey county and Safiro. He even had Mt. Esme and the lands of Safiro as a whole under a curse so they remained dry and barren. An illusion also hid the truth about Safiro’s dire situation from the neighboring territories.
In her previous life, Arabella would never have thought such things were possible. But this time, Safiro was the proof that it was indeed true.
Alwin had no reason to falsify his reports either and even if he did, Arabella would have known.
Ferdinand, Raymond, and Alwin all agreed that the goal of the magician was the magic ores while Dempsey’s was revenge and profit.
The magician was too powerful to be under Count Dempsey so the two were probably allies in order to achieve their goals. The magician was not under the Count.
Moreover, Alwin also informed them that something else was lurking in Mt. Esme and it was what was causing a lot of magic ores to be gathered underground aside from Esmeralda’s power.
Alwin was sure it was a magical creature. However, he wasn’t able to verify what it was yet since it would mean showing himself to everyone in the mines and alerting the magician.
The magician could also be after it, not just the magic ores so Alwin was assigned to ensure the magician doesn’t try to get it while Ferdinand and his knights were busy apprehending Count Dempsey and his men.
Arabella waited patiently and just ensured that the food for Safiro was prepared. Alfredo and the chefs did their best to cook as much as they could in order to cater to Safiro’s population.
However, seeing how pressured the kitchen was to be cooking for so many people so suddenly, it soon became obvious that making the Imperial Kitchen prepare all the food for Safiro for a week would be difficult even after hiring many more cooks from Riva.
Arabella spoke with Raymond about it and they both agreed they needed help so that the kitchen wouldn’t be too overworked.
They both agreed that Arno and Cordelia who were close to Safiro and had a good supply of food would be appropriate for the task.
Arabella then summoned Nadia and Ivan to her office.
[Are we finally going to Safiro?]
Nadia came running in judging from her ragged breathing.
[Why am I getting summoned before we begin working? Are they going to fire me? I heard the ladies from Prudencia and Safiro haven’t returned to their chambers since they were summoned.]
Ivan was nervous that Arabella could have changed her mind and were firing those who were not from powerful families.
[Oh, she’s also here.] He was surprised to see Nadia was also in Arabella’s office.
[Why is the Prime Minister also here?] I Ivan got even more nervous.
"Greetings to Her Majesty, the Empress. Greetings to His Excellency, the Prime Minister."
"Ivan, be at ease. You must be surprised to have been summoned so soon. I hope you do not mind," Arabella said as she gestured for the two to sit.
"Not at all. I am at Your Majesty’s service."
"I summoned you because there is an issue in Safiro we are currently resolving and we realized we needed the help of Cordelia and Arno," Arabella was direct to the point.
[An issue in Safiro? Could this be related to the people from Safiro residing in one of the Count’s residences?]
Arabella learned from his thoughts that Ivan and his family actually knew about the people from Safiro that had been hiding in Cordelia since his father had among the widest farms in the territory. Ivan’s family was also close with Count Cordelia’s.
Ivan’s father was one of those who had people from Safiro hired as their farmers before Count Dempsey prohibited going out of the territory.
This made things easier for Arabella. Ivan was already aware something must be going on in Safiro for the people to escape from their beloved land.
Arabella hadn’t been able to summon Ivan before as she had intended since she got busy with other matters so she made him discuss the harvests and food supply in Cordelia now.
"The harvest in Cordelia had been productive for years, Your Majesty. The food supply was. . ."
Ivan proceeded with giving her and Raymond a detailed report about Cordelia’s harvest this year and the previous years. How he recalled all the statistics was beyond her but she was proud of her assistant’s abilities.
The reports submitted to Riva were true. Cordelia had been having good harvests and they had an ample food supply.
Since Cordelia also shared borders with Arno Dukedom, Ivan knew Arno also had a good harvest so they also had no problems with food supply.
Arabella and Raymond nodded at each other deciding to implement their plan. Raymond had notified Ferdinand about it through Alwin’s assistant and he approved.
"Nadia, we intend to visit Cordelia and Arno. Preparing all the food in the Imperial Kitchen for a week or more would be too much for the chefs and other kitchen staff. Thus, we have decided to have to get Cordelia and Arno’s help in the matter. Likewise, we would also like to meet your siblings in Cordelia and your people whom you have helped to escape Safiro," Arabella informed and both of her assistants were wide-eyed.
