Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 118: Hire More Cooks
Chapter 118: Hire More Cooks
Arabella watched as Nadia pinched her hand. She doesn’t seem convinced and pinched her cheeks next trying to see if she would feel pain.
Nadia frowned when she felt all of it.
[This dream is too realistic. I should wake up already. Why would the Emperor and Empress be concerned with a territory as small as Safiro? We are just a speck of dust in the vast Empire. I’m hoping for too much just because I got hired.]
Nadia slapped both of her cheeks and they turned reddish pink.
"Nadia, what are you doing?" Arabella asked and Nadia flinched.
"Uhm, Your Majesty, I’m not dreaming, am I?" Nadia dared to ask.
"You are not. Rest assured that Safiro would be fine now that we know what had been happening there," Arabella smiled.
"Is Safiro truly saved now?" Nadia asked; her eyes filled with fear that she would wake up and this was just a dream. That Safiro would still keep suffering.
"Yes, we will do our best for that to happen," Arabella assured her.
"So Safiro, our tribesmen won’t keep dying of hunger and overwork anymore?" Nadia was slightly trembling.
"Yes. They may eat and rest for now and regain their health. They won’t be forced to work in the mines anymore nor be confined in Safiro."
Nadia gulped and blinked repeatedly as she processed Arabella’s words.
"Thank goodness!" she sighed in relief and finally smiled with tears at the corners of her eyes.
"Thank you so much, Your Majesty."
Tears of relief flooded Nadia’s eyes.
Arabella walked over to Nadia and embraced her.
Nadia tensed at first not knowing what to do. But soon, she began to cry as Arabella comforted her.
Arabella bit her lip. Nadia didn’t show any tears even as she told them her story and what was happening in Safiro.
But now that she was assured Safiro would finally be fine, Nadia cried so much in relief that their people would truly finally be saved.
She was so selfless that Arabella wanted to cry for her. Nadia did not care about how much she had suffered. All she wanted was for Safiro to be saved.
"You’ve been through so much. You are not alone now. The Empire will take care of Safiro from now on. You don’t have to do everything by yourself anymore. You’ve been so strong despite everything."
Arabella patted Nadia’s back and petted her hair. Nadia cried so much more until she was trembling.
"It’s alright now. You and Safiro will be safe," Arabella assured her again.
Arabella was once again reminded that she wasn’t the only person who had suffered so much in this world. Thus, she shouldn’t be absorbed in her grief and self-pity again no matter what happens.
Nadia never even pitied herself. All this strong girl wanted was the safety of her family and their tribesmen. She didn’t even look for people to hate and blame as to why they were suffering so much. Not even Count Dempsey or his men, nor Duke Arno who conquered them, nor Ferdinand who sent his knights in support.
What Nadia focused on was looking for solutions to the problems at hand and saving as many lives as possible.
Arabella was learning so much from her.
"Oh my goodness! My deepest apologies Your Majesty. I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to cry so much and ruin your dress," Nadia bowed so low once she was done crying her heart out.
Just like Odette, Nadia kept apologizing after realizing that Arabella’s clothes got drenched with tears.
"It’s alright. I’m glad you let your pent-up emotions out. You should head to the dining hall and eat a lot. We might head to Safiro anytime today so prepare yourself. Once the food for your tribesmen is ready, we will head to Safiro and distribute it," Arabella instructed.
"Yes, Your Majesty. Thank you very much for visiting Safiro and helping us," Nadia bowed so deeply once again before leaving.
Arabella then headed to her room to get changed and asked Aletha to prepare her clothes that would be comfortable for the kind of place Safiro was at the moment.
She was sure Alwin and the others would be done with their investigations in a short while.
Arabella wanted to be there and see for herself that they are able to eat properly.
Once she was done, she headed to the kitchen and checked on things. Alfredo seemed to be in a pickle.
"What’s wrong Alfredo?"
"Your Majesty, I have ordered much more food ingredients as instructed. However, with the amount of food we are preparing today and the following days, the kitchen is heavily short-staffed. We need more people to work with us in the kitchen," Alfredo informed.
"Oh, I see. I will have some of the maids and butlers to help in the kitchen even if just in preparing the ingredients."
"Thank you, Your Majesty. But I believe even if all the maids and butlers helped out, we would still need more hands," Alfredo was honest.
It was true since the maids’ and butlers’ skills were different. Some might not even know what they should do so they would probably get assigned to sorting out ingredients instead.
"I see. If they are still not enough, we can hire cooks from the city for just one week or more."
A lot would be interested, especially with the pay in the palace much higher. And they could boast they worked in the palace kitchen even if just for a week or more.
She was sure even if they gave a high salary to the cooks, it wouldn’t even leave a dent in the palace’s budget.
"Thank you, Your Majesty," Alfredo bowed. He was relieved they get some help soon.
Arabella then spoke with the Head Butler to hire cooks from the city.
Since there was an edict from Ferdinand, she could command everyone as she pleased so that what was in his edict would be followed. This was exactly why she suggested it while he was signing documents.
