Reborn as a Happy Wife in a Rural Family -
Chapter 90: Plundering
Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Plundering
Is Lin Ying’er’s life a bit too leisurely? Since she wants to cause trouble, I’ll play along. It’s the perfect time to help prune some branches for that person in the palace; they’ve grown too thick and are starting to affect me.
"You three, come here."
Gu Qingli gestured for the trio to approach, then whispered something into their ears.
Their eyes gleamed with mischief after hearing her words.
"Miss, we’ll get on it straight away! That shameless woman will never expect us to counterattack this fast!" Wuyou exclaimed, so excited she licked her lips. She whistled at Yun No. 20, who had just returned from outside, then marched out with Wuqing and Wushuang. They flew to the rooftop and vanished into the night like phantoms.
「Elsewhere」
Lin Ying’er was nonchalantly enjoying her late-night snack, a cruel smirk playing on her lips now and then.
Ping’er, her personal maid who was close at hand, frowned. Her lady’s laugh is particularly unsettling this evening, she thought.
Ping’er had only started serving Lin Ying’er half a year ago. Back then, Lin Ying’er had always presented herself as generous and magnanimous, yet down-to-earth—the image of an outgoing young lady from a prominent family. She was completely unlike those reclusive, morose young ladies who lived secluded lives, always seeming like resentful women. Lin Ying’er was lively, open-minded, intelligent, and knowledgeable. Everyone liked her.
However, lately, Lin Ying’er seemed to have transformed; her actions had become strange and inexplicable.
Even now, I can see a hint of bloodthirstiness in her eyes, Ping’er observed with trepidation. What kind of girl possesses such a quality?
Ping’er felt a sudden chill run down her spine. She hung her head low, not daring to look at her lady again.
WHOOSH!
A sudden gust of wind blew into the room, extinguishing the candle.
Before the mistress and her maid could scream, figures who had slipped in through the window instantly muffled them. While Wuqing and Wushuang covered their mouths, they simultaneously struck their mute acupoints.
Wuyou relit the candle, then walked over to the terrified Lin Ying’er. She casually patted Lin Ying’er’s face, then abruptly moved her hand downwards, gripping her throat. Lin Ying’er immediately gasped, opening her mouth, and Wuyou swiftly poured a packet of medicinal powder into it.
Then, Wuyou clamped her mouth shut.
Wuyou pressed a point on Lin Ying’er’s neck; Lin Ying’er swallowed reflexively, the powder going down her throat.
The entire sequence was executed in one swift, fluid motion.
As for the maid, Wuyou used a poison to render her mute and blind, and also crippled her right hand.
We were once assassins who killed without batting an eye, Wuyou thought. We certainly won’t be soft-hearted or merciful now.
While Wuyou dealt with the maid, Wuqing had already hit Lin Ying’er’s sleep acupoint, tossed her onto the bed, and then crippled her legs.
Hmph! Crippling her legs was my own idea, Wuqing mused. It’ll stop her from running around causing trouble. I can just apologize to Miss for it later.
"Let’s go."
Once finished, Wuqing gestured, and the three of them leaped out through the window.
Wushuang, the last to leave, carried a bundle on her back.
「Meanwhile」
Dean Lin emerged from his study, carefully locking the door behind him before heading towards the rear courtyard.
Not long after he departed, three shadowy figures silently converged on the study from different directions. Guards were swiftly dispatched, and a faint, muffled grunt sounded—barely audible unless one was listening intently.
Soon, the three figures dashed towards the study, their speed in the darkness truly like that of phantoms.
One of them deftly pried open a window with a dagger, listened for a moment, and hearing no sound from within, was the first to leap inside. The other two quickly followed.
Once inside, the three began a purposeful search, stuffing anything of value they found into their bundles.
"Hm?"
As Wuqing felt for a button beneath a desk drawer, the bookshelf behind her automatically slid open.
The three were overjoyed. So there’s a secret passage here!
They quickly entered, navigating several turns before arriving in a hidden chamber.
"Good heavens!" one of them exclaimed.
The room was filled with gold, stacked neatly. In the remaining space, there were several large chests overflowing with jewelry, antiques, and calligraphy scrolls.
"Tsk, tsk... there’s so much! How are we going to move it all?" Wuqing muttered to herself.
"Quick, let’s go back and tell Miss! We need to get more people. If this is discovered by morning, it won’t be ours anymore!" Wuyou was the first to snap back to reality.
Wuqing and Wushuang nodded. They swiftly exited the chamber, grabbing as much as they could carry on their way out.
Returning to the study, the trio closed the secret passage and rapidly departed.
Gu Qingli had been waiting for two hours. The trio had yet to return, and she was growing increasingly worried.
CREAK.
Just then, the door opened, and in walked three figures, each laden with a large bundle.
Gu Qingli’s eyes widened at the sight.
"Hehe, Miss!" they chimed, putting down their packs, their faces beaming with joy.
"You... all this?" Gu Qingli opened one bundle and saw it was filled with gold ingots.
"So much?" This is the first time I’ve ever seen such large gold ingots!
"Hehe, Miss, this is just the tip of the iceberg! That Dean Lin..." Wuyou excitedly recounted everything they had found in the secret chamber, concluding, "Miss, we need to call people to move it immediately! If someone else discovers it, they’ll definitely transfer it all away!"
Gu Qingli swallowed hard. Have them move it? How would they even manage? How long would it take?
An idea sparked in her mind. She pulled Wuqing aside and whispered something to her.
"What? Miss, you want to go? You personally?" Wuqing exclaimed in astonishment.
THWACK.
Gu Qingli lightly smacked Wuqing’s head. "Calm down!"
She too coveted that wealth. How much could Wuqing and the others possibly carry with just their hands? If they took her, it would be a simple matter of waving her hand.
"Miss!" Wuyou and Wushuang also stared at her in disbelief.
"Let’s go! Hurry, or it’ll be dawn soon!" Gu Qingli urged.
"Ah, oh, oh... okay!"
Though they didn’t know what she planned to do, the three of them once again vanished into the night with Gu Qingli.
Being carried as they flew through the air was incredibly thrilling for Gu Qingli.
They easily slipped into the Lin Estate.
I’m so envious of their skills, Gu Qingli thought. If I were that proficient, I wouldn’t have to worry about my Space being exposed.
The four women re-entered the secret chamber.
When Gu Qingli saw the room, approximately five hundred square meters, piled high with gold, silver, and jewels, her heart pounded wildly.
At this moment, I truly understand why the richer people are, the greedier they become and the more they love wealth. Even if they can’t spend it all, just feasting their eyes on it, cleansing their vision with its sight every day, is an exhilarating affair!
"Miss," the three called out, pulling her from her reverie.
Gu Qingli collected herself and said softly, "You three go out first and check if there’s anything else in the study. I’ll handle things here. Don’t worry, this old hand has a few tricks up her sleeve!"
The three nodded. Though intensely curious about how Miss planned to move so much treasure, they respected her wishes. After a final, reluctant glance at the stacks of gold ingots, they quickly exited.
Once Gu Qingli confirmed they were gone, she grinned radiantly and waved her hand. "Collect, collect, collect..."
Within a few hundred breaths, the five-hundred-square-meter room was utterly empty. Not even a speck of dust remained.
After finishing, Gu Qingli hurried out of the secret chamber. Hearing her footsteps, the three waiting outside immediately went in to assist her. The chamber was lit by wall sconces, but it was pitch black outside.
"How did it go? Did you find anything else of value?" Gu Qingli asked in a hushed voice.
"We found quite a few letters, but not many of value. Miss, we should leave quickly," Wuyou said, supporting her.
