Chapter 143: Chapter 143: The Beast Descends the Mountain

Gu Qingli turned around and walked back. When she returned to the courtyard, Ms. Yang was anxiously pacing. Seeing Gu Qingli return, she immediately went to greet her.

"Third Sister-in-law, should we leave now?"

Gu Qingli took a deep breath and said, "Yes, we should go. All of you, pack your things and take the carts. Pick up my parents on the way, then go directly to the town to pick up the children. Once you have them, don’t linger; hurry to Qiyang County."

"Alright, we’ll prepare immediately." Ms. Yang had been worried about her children, so hearing Gu Qingli’s arrangement, she turned and went into the house to pack.

After informing Ms. Wang, Mrs. Li, and Mrs. Zhang, Gu Qingli went towards the back door and waved her hand in the air.

Yun No. 20 immediately appeared and saluted her. "Madam."

Without any further ado, as she believed Yun No. 20 understood the peculiarity of the situation and what it foreshadowed, she directly instructed him, "Yun No. 20, immediately arrange for two men to accompany Ms. Yang and the others to Qiyang County. Send another person back to the base and have them all evacuate."

"Yes, Madam."

Yun No. 20 disappeared in a flash. He also knew the situation was urgent and immediately went to make arrangements.

After arranging for Yun No. 20 and the others, Gu Qingli returned to her room and wrote a note. She caught a carrier pigeon and sent it to Wuqing.

She had originally wanted to send a message to Xiao Yunjing, but considering that nothing had happened yet, it was better not to disturb his focus. No matter what happened, she would be fine. She wouldn’t leave either. If there were any casualties, she could provide first aid immediately.

Ms. Yang and the others only packed a few sets of clothes. Once they were ready, Gu Qingli called out the two Secret Sect members, one to drive the horse cart and the other to drive the ox cart.

"Third Sister-in-law, you’re not leaving?" Ms. Yang asked, noticing Gu Qingli hadn’t packed anything and wasn’t getting on a cart.

"Eldest Sister-in-law, you go first. I’ll wait for Wuqing; there are still some things that haven’t been arranged. Don’t worry, I’ll be there as soon as everything is settled. Just help me take care of my mother," Gu Qingli said, patting Ms. Yang’s arm.

"Third Sister-in-law, you’re not planning on staying, are you?" Ms. Wang seemed to see through her intentions.

"Of course not. You all need to leave quickly."

Gu Qingli paid them no more attention, gesturing to the two Secret Sect members. They both nodded and drove the carts out of the courtyard.

She then entered through the back door and headed straight for the base. There were many things there, all of which were Xiao Yunjing’s hard work; she had to store them in her Space.

After entering the tunnel, she let Da Bai out and climbed onto his back.

With Da Bai’s speed, it would take less than half an incense stick’s burning time.

Indeed, in less than the time it takes for half an incense stick to burn, Da Bai had reached the cave entrance. She dismounted, stored Da Bai in her Space, and then stepped out of the tunnel.

Inside the valley, the people from the base were packing up.

Yun No. 200, busy with his tasks, saw her and immediately ran towards her.

"Madam, why have you come?"

"All of you, leave the valley quickly and get out of the Azure Dragon Mountain range. You don’t need to pack much, just bring some food and clothes."

Yun No. 200 didn’t hesitate. "Yes, Madam. I will go make arrangements right away."

Gu Qingli nodded. She waited in the valley for two hours as people gradually evacuated. In the end, only Yun No. 200 and Yun No. 90 remained.

"Madam, are you not leaving?" Yun No. 200 asked her.

"I will leave. You go first. I’ll deal with some things and follow. It’s best to take the people back to Tiger Head Mountain and then send another group into Qiyang County."

Yun No. 200 nodded. He greatly admired Gu Qingli; a young woman who not only remained calm in the face of an emergency but also considered the situation more thoroughly than he did. He had initially planned to return with the men once the situation was over. But on second thought, if a disaster truly struck, it would be chaotic. Perhaps the members of the Secret Sect could contribute in some way. Of course, it would be best if nothing happened. They could continue their training on Tiger Head Mountain just as well.

Yun No. 200 saluted. "Take care, Madam."

"Alright. Hurry and protect those people."

"Yes." Yun No. 200 took a deep look at Gu Qingli, then led Yun No. 90 up the mountain cliff, and they disappeared from view.

Gu Qingli then went to the warehouse. There was no one left inside, so she immediately stored all the items in her Space.

After storing everything, she came out through the tunnel and arrived on the mountain.

Wild animals were still running down from the higher slopes, rushing down the mountain in a panic.

The animals emerging now were all large ones. Gu Qingli frowned. Surely these jackals, wolves, tigers, and leopards would harm people as they came out. They are all running towards the opposite bank of the river. There’s no forest over there, so where would they find food?

Thinking this, she summoned Da Bai from her Space.

"Da Bai, drive the large animals back up the mountain. If they don’t listen, bite them to death."

Da Bai rumbled softly, nuzzling against her before immediately bounding up the mountain.

Soon, Da Bai’s roars echoed through the mountains.

The galloping animals heard the roars; indeed, some turned and charged back up the mountain. Others hesitated for a moment but eventually turned back reluctantly. Those that had already descended the mountain heard the roars, their legs trembling, and they too unwillingly returned to the higher slopes.

Watching the retreating animals from the edge of the mountain, Gu Qingli sighed with relief. And she marveled at Da Bai’s might – truly the king of the mountains.

However, the villagers who heard the tiger’s roars were not so calm and quickly shut their doors.

Gu Qingli, also worried about being accidentally injured, descended the mountain.

She returned to her house, stepped out of the courtyard, and stood on the slope, looking towards the village.

In the village, people with ox carts were trying to head towards the town, but they were all stuck at the village entrance, daring not to proceed. From time to time, animals rushing down the mountain frightened the oxen so much that they refused to move. Her family’s ox cart and horse cart were also parked there.

She didn’t go over, believing they would be able to pass soon.

As expected, after about the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, an ox cart drove past. One cart, then another, until all had passed by.

Gu Qingli then returned home and stored everything she could in her Space. There were so many sweet potatoes and so much rice harvested this year; she couldn’t bear to see them destroyed.

After that, she went to Gu Dalin’s house, opened the door, and stored all of their belongings in her Space as well.

She then went back up the mountain. Indeed, no more wild animals were coming down.

She reached the medicinal field. The mountainside was a mess; the ten-odd mu of medicinal herbs were all trampled and destroyed by the wild animals.

Gu Qingli’s heart ached at the sight. All these precious medicinal materials, gone just like that!

Fortunately, the greenhouse had not been trampled.

"Eh?"

Under the corner of the greenhouse wall, quite a few wild animals lay stunned.

Gu Qingli found it amusing. To think they could get knocked out just like that! However, they were all small animals, mostly wild rabbits.

She quickly gathered them into her Space. Some, regaining consciousness, saw her and scampered off in fright. After collecting them all, she had some twenty animals.

"ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!"

Da Bai ran towards her, tugging at her trouser leg and trying to lead her up the mountain.

"Is there something on the mountain?"

"ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!" Da Bai nodded.

Gu Qingli patted his head. "Let’s go."

Da Bai then crouched down, clearly intending to carry her.

Gu Qingli climbed onto Da Bai’s back, and he immediately started sprinting towards the depths of the mountain.
