Reborn As A Demon Queen With A Big D! -
029: The Queen’s Resolve
It had been over a week since Freya began staying at Andariel’s manor. Every morning, she would gaze eastward from the second-floor balcony, toward her crumbling kingdom, slowly being devoured by the corruption of its high-ranking nobles and officers.
Despite being treated like a real queen by the chieftess, she couldn’t shake the anxiety and worry for her homeland.
Andariel’s footsteps resounded behind her, she let the succubus walk up on her, and put both hands around her waist from behind, savoring the blissful sensations as Andariel caressed her neck softly.
“Mmmmhh… Andariel.” Freya purred intimately as Andariel's breath tickled her skin. She placed a hand on Andariel's cheek, turning her head to the side, eyes partly closed, inviting her into a kiss.
The succubus obliged her wish by pulling Freya’s tongue and only released it when she gasped for air.
“Is there something the matter?”
“Mmh. I was thinking about the future of Arlenheim. I am but a mortal in her late twenties, my time is fleeting. Should I conceive your children, would they continue our legacy? Or ruining the kingdom instead? I am afraid that history will repeat itself once I die.”
Andariel tightens her arms around Freya’s waist, looking for the right remark. She turned Freya’s body all the way, looking at her eyes deeply.
“The world will change rapidly and beyond anything that we could think of at this point. I can't even tell what this generation would do, and I have no control over it. Should this plain unite or be engulfed in flames, my love for you is eternal.”
Freya buried her face into Andariel’s breasts, the only place where she could find solace. Andariel silently surprised that she would say something like that spontaneously. It was so pure, no ulterior motives beneath her thoughts. Even if there’s one, she said it so she could protect Freya.
Before long, Elise announced her presence by putting a force onto the staircase a tad. The two slightly parted away when Elise bowed sincerely by the door way.
“Lady Catharina is here, m’ladies. She asked for an audience with both of you.”
Freya glanced to the side. “Who is Catharina?”
“Alice’s guardian. And also the village’s strongest assassin.”
‘And Alice ordered this very assassin to eliminate the princes? Just how powerful is Alice? She's just a mere seven years old kid.’
Putting Alice’s mystery aside, Freya fumbled when she saw a succubus with a very powerful aura sitting leisurely in the living room while sipping her tea.
The woman in a black dress was aloof and indifferent, she only stood and bowed to Andariel and Freya when they walked downstairs.
However, Freya’s attention immediately shifted to the young girl who appeared to be fast asleep on the sofa.
“Good morning, Catharina.” Andariel sat down on the opposite sofa, followed by Freya beside her. “How’s Nidaross?”
Catharina sat down, crossing one leg to another. “An utter mess. Every government's body within Arlenheim was teeming with rats. But, I managed to get rid of them in a single night.”
Freya caught up with the conversation right away. She couldn't believe that one woman was capable of eliminating the pests in a single night.
“How about the Seeres?” Freya suddenly chimed. “She and the First Prince are both powerful mages.”
“She died by my scythe.” Catharina replied without batting an eyelash.
“But how?! Those two are the very reason why the kingdom hasn't yet been invaded by the neighbouring overlords. I’m sorry, I don't mean to doubt you, Miss Catharina. I just can't quite wrap my head around it.”
Catharina was sipping her cup of tea, and put the cup gently to the saucer. She finally opened her mouth.
“I came here not to explain how I did my job. Besides, it was Alice who wished them dead to provide a better place for demi-human and alike. I am here to ask you a personal favor, Andariel. And to snap you back to reality that had been hidden from you, Queen Freya.”
Andariel paused for a moment. She nodded amicably. “You may speak.”
Catharina briefly explained what she did to the princes, royal consorts, as well as the corrupt nobles and officers in a single night.
“As I carried out my mission, I found this branded slave that had been violated by Marquess Ludwig. She's the only life that I spared that night due to her complex background.”
Freya tilted her head, flummoxed. “Complex background? Is she a daughter of a fallen noble family?”
“Worse…” Catharina went over to the elf’s sofa, revealing the clipped ears beneath the green hair. “She is an elf. Judging from her green hair, she's a Wood Elf, a very young one at that. As of now, she might be no older than twenty years old. For elves, anybody under one hundred years old is still considered a child. I don't want to anger the Wood Elves if they found out that I killed one of their descendants.”
Andariel raised an eyebrow. “As far as I know, Wood Elf lived in the western part of the great jungle. She must've been caught by humans during the Holy Church’s occupation.”
Meanwhile, tears welled up in Freya’s eyelids. She had just been struck by the grim reality of her kingdom. She caressed the young elf’s hair with an apologetic look.
“Please forgive my sheer incompetence. I should’ve protected my people yet I could only run and hide for years.”
Freya smacked her face, fueled with newfound determination.
“I know what to do now…” She stood up suddenly. “Andariel, I need to return to my kingdom in this instance.”
The chieftess smiled from ear to ear. “As you command, your majesty.”
Andariel turned to Catharina for one last time. “She may stay here as long as she wishes. I will return here once I wrap everything in Nidaross. Thank you for lending me your strength, Catharina.”
“No need to thank me… You may give it to Alice later upon your return."
