Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 21: Madam’s Concern
Chapter 21: Madam’s Concern
That’s when Alex’s eyes flickered, and he said in a hurt and sad tone, "And you couldn’t tell me? Although we are in an arranged marriage, I am still your husband. We have taken vows, so that makes me your husband, and you are my rightful wife."
After a long time, he slightly released the big hand that was holding her down. Sitting at the edge of the bed, he lit a cigarette. Claire quickly pulled the blanket over her body and tightly wrapped herself up.
After a while, she lightly opened her red lips and said in a voice that was barely audible, "Thank you."
Seeing his back stiffen, Claire quickly added, "But if someone else came instead of you, I wouldn’t be at a loss." At these words, Alex suddenly turned around, his eyes full of warning, and said coldly, "I don’t care what you are capable of; you better not let this incident repeat itself." Claire shrugged her shoulders and felt a strange feeling in her heart.
Was he worried about her? The room became quiet. After a while, Alex stood up and left the room without a word. That night, Claire slept alone. Until dawn, Alex did not appear again.
The next morning, Claire was eating breakfast in the living room but still did not see Alex’s figure. She called the butler and asked in confusion, "Where did your master go?"
The butler replied, "Madam, the master was busy in his study all night yesterday. He left early this morning and didn’t say where he was going."
Hearing this, she frowned. Yesterday they had a quarrel, and she didn’t have time to even apologize sincerely. Despite all the turmoil, Claire couldn’t help but worry. As she was pondering, her phone rang—it was her wicked stepmother.
Yesterday, when she was taken away by her husband’s security personnel, she didn’t see Mariah. Now that she’s calling, she’s probably going to blame her.
As expected, when she answered the call, she was met with Mariah’s accusing tone through the phone. "Claire, I warned you not to offend Mr. Sam, but you went ahead and pissed him off. You’re really asking for trouble by not taking the hint! You dare to deceive Mr. Sam. Do you even know where you came from? Do I have to remind you that you are just a country bumpkin with no manners? I’m telling you, Mr. Sam is angry now. You better come to the Smith family now, or I will make sure you don’t leave easily."
Claire’s eyes sank at the thought of being almost sold by Mariah yesterday. She was furious. She hadn’t gone to settle the score with her yet, and she had the nerve to come and accuse her. Since that’s the case, there’s no need to show mercy.
Claire raised a bright smile and obediently replied, "Aunt Mariah, calm down. I will come over right away and explain to Mr. Sam in person."
Mariah heard Claire’s gentle attitude, and her anger dissipated. She said in a bland tone, "Fine, hurry and come over!"
After hanging up the phone, Claire looked at the butler and said, "If the master comes back, remind him to rest well. He didn’t sleep all night. I’m going back to the Smith family, and most likely won’t be back tonight unless something unexpected happens."
The butler’s expression changed drastically upon hearing this, and he said, "Madam, the boss instructed me before he left that you shouldn’t go back to the Smith family alone."
"And..." He hesitated to continue, but Claire’s face darkened, and she said, "What, do I not have the right to go home now?"
Without waiting for the butler’s response, Claire stood up and left. The butler watched as she left and felt his forehead sweating profusely. He silently prayed that his boss would overlook this, considering his madam’s concern.
...
At the Smith Family.
Sam sat in the main seat of the living room, his face gloomy. He never expected that he, Sam Wills, a wise and brilliant man, would one day be deceived by a young girl like this.
After returning home yesterday, he sent someone to investigate Claire’s background. Only then did he find out that she was just a village girl who had recently come from the countryside to be married off to the Grey family but unexpectedly got married to someone from the Miller family.
He was angry, and he believed that whatever happened yesterday was just a scam—maybe the girl tricked him. He didn’t believe that the man from the Miller family would willingly marry her.
She is just a slut who threw herself on his bed, and he wouldn’t mind if she did the same to another person because that’s how sluts are. This time, he was determined to bed her and wouldn’t allow her to trick him again. Realizing this, Sam immediately found Mariah, wanting to teach her a lesson.
Mariah had been in the business circle for many years, and her social skills were naturally excellent. With just a few words, she calmed Sam down and even invited him to the Smith Family in the absence of her husband.
"Mr. Wills, there must be some misunderstandings about yesterday’s matter."
"Looking around City A, there really is no one more sincere than our Smith Family," Mariah said as she poured a cup of tea for Sam and handed it over with a pleasing attitude.
Sam Wills snorted coldly, did not take the tea, but instead looked at her daughter Anna, who was sitting beside him, and said, "If you are so sincere, then arrange for her to come and see me clearly today. Don’t let me come here for nothing. If she doesn’t come today, then I’ll take your daughter as a substitute."
Anna felt Sam’s gaze, and her heart sank. She clenched her fists anxiously, not wanting to be defiled by this middle-aged, ugly man in front of her. There was no moment when she looked forward to Claire’s appearance more than now.
