Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 157: Make Mommy Happy

Chapter 157: Make Mommy Happy

Claire remained silent and didn’t say a word.

"Claire, although the Greg family is one of the top families in City A, they are still a family in the business and political circles. There are some things within the family that may not be convenient for you to participate in. I hope you can think it over carefully."

"This is the rule of our Greg family, and you should understand that the family will never allow a marriage that is not auspicious!"

"So..." Claire looked up at Madam Greg and asked, "Do you want my mother to break off the engagement?"

Madam Greg was stunned for a moment and said, "Claire..."

"I know what you mean, and I also know that my mother and Mr. Celine are truly in love. But these things cannot be controlled by love alone. I respect my mother’s choice and hope that you can respect it too."

Claire continued calmly, "As for Madam Greg, I’m afraid your body cannot withstand the stress of worrying about these things."

"You are sick at heart, and the most important thing now is to rest well, not to worry about these matters. Let them make their own decisions, and you don’t have to concern yourself."

After speaking, Claire got up and said, "Madam Greg, let me check your pulse."

"No need, my body knows best. My health has been deteriorating over the years, and there is no need for further treatment," Madam Greg waved her hand.

Upon hearing this, Claire felt a pang of sadness.

"Madam Greg, you still need to take good care of your health. Otherwise, how can you pass on the family to your grandson in the future?"

One sentence from Claire reminded Madam Greg of something. Her expression immediately turned gloomy.

"You’re right. I was too fixated on past grudges, which led to my illness worsening."

"Over the years, it was Josh who has been by my side. He is the reason I could hold on until today. He has an attachment to me."

"So, Claire, if you think that your mother and my son can be happy together, then I will give you face and agree to this marriage."

Claire pursed her lips and remained silent.

"I hope you can think carefully about whether they can truly be together. I don’t want to see my son regretting this for the rest of his life. By then, it will be too late," Madam Greg sighed.

"I understand."

"Good. You can stay at the Greg family’s house during this period," Madam Greg said.

"No," Claire said. "Although the Greg family is large and spacious, I am not someone who likes to trouble others. I have a home and will return there to live. I will visit you every day to treat your illness."

"But..."

"Grandma, you don’t have to worry," Claire said, then turned and walked out. She didn’t want to stay there and could only leave temporarily.

"Alright, you can go and do your things," Madam Greg waved her hand helplessly.

Claire left the bedroom and stood outside the door, taking a few deep breaths.

As she sat down on the sofa in the living room, Claire felt a strange feeling in her heart. She never expected that Madam Greg would loosen her grip on her just because she agreed to her mother’s marriage.

Alex was already waiting for her in the living room and greeted her as she approached.

"How did it go?" he asked.

"They agreed," Claire replied, looking at Alex.

Alex’s face lit up with relief, but then he became puzzled. "If they agreed, why didn’t your mother come to see you?"

Claire smiled and pursed her lips. "I don’t know. Maybe they feel awkward facing me."

Alex shook his head. "Claire, something doesn’t feel right. I think something happened between them, and your mother’s attitude towards the Greg family is also strange."

Claire pondered for a moment before replying calmly, "It’s because they have never been recognized. That’s why it’s awkward."

"I see," Alex nodded, seemingly satisfied with her explanation.

Claire and Alex spent the whole day at the Greg family’s house. As night fell, they prepared to leave and return to their new home.

"Please wait a moment," someone called out to them.

As Claire stood up, Mr. Celine approached her.

"Lucy and your grandfather have prepared a lot of food. You can stay for dinner before you leave," he said.

"No, thank you," Claire declined.

"Don’t be like that. You’ve been working hard outside and haven’t had a proper meal. Stay and eat before you go," Mr. Celine insisted.

"Thank you, Uncle Celine, but my husband and I need to hurry back. Our child is waiting for us at home," Claire explained.

"Claire, don’t refuse Uncle’s kindness. You can’t even accept a simple meal?"

Claire sighed helplessly and compromised. "Alright."

Mr. Celine immediately instructed the kitchen staff to prepare dinner.

Soon, the servants brought out the food, and everyone sat around the table.

"Claire, eat more," Mr. Celine warmly invited her.

"Thank you, Uncle Celine," Claire replied with a smile.

Mr. Celine’s gaze fell on Alex, and a complex expression flashed in his eyes, as if he was thinking about something.

Claire noticed and asked, "Uncle Celine, is there something you want to say? If you have any doubts, feel free to ask."

He shook his head. "Claire, you two go ahead and eat. Don’t mind me."

After dinner, Claire and Alex said their goodbyes and headed home. Mr. Celine accompanied them to the door and reminded them, "Be careful on the way."

"Okay, thank you, Uncle Celine."

"Claire, remember what I said today. Don’t easily trust any man. You two are still young and have a long road ahead. You must cherish each other."

"Yes, thank you for your advice, Uncle," Claire nodded.

"If you’re not feeling well, don’t pretend to be strong."

"I understand, Uncle. I will take care of myself. Don’t worry."

"Alright then, I won’t keep you two any longer. Go back quickly."

"Okay."

Alex asked, "What did you say to Mr. Celine just now?"

"Nothing much. He just asked me if I regretted marrying you, and I answered."

Alex furrowed his brows. "What is the Greg family up to? Why are they suddenly being nice to you? I feel like there’s a conspiracy behind it."

"No matter what their intentions are, we’ll face it together. We can handle anything that comes our way."

"You’re so smart, yet you didn’t see through their motives. How would I know?"

"That’s all we can do." Alex nodded.

They returned to the villa, where Leander was lying on the sofa in the living room watching TV.

When Claire returned, Leander immediately sat up and looked at Alex.

"Daddy, Mommy!" Leander exclaimed happily.

Claire walked towards him and smiled. "Why aren’t you asleep yet?"

"Because I was waiting for Mommy," Leander pouted. "Daddy, you’re back?"

"Baby, when Mommy is done freshening up, we’ll tell you everything, okay?" Alex said gently, patting Leander on the head.

Leander tilted his head but nodded reluctantly. "Okay. But you have to promise!"

Claire smiled and kissed his forehead. "Promise."

Alex scooped him up. "Now, let’s get you to bed. It’s already way past your bedtime."

"Five more minutes?" Leander begged, clinging to Alex’s neck.

Alex chuckled. "You said that half an hour ago."

Leander sighed dramatically but allowed himself to be carried upstairs. Claire followed them, her heart warm at the sight of the two bonding.

After tucking Leander in, Claire and Alex sat in the living room.

"Do you think we should tell Leander about the family situation now?" Claire asked softly.

Alex leaned back, thinking. "I don’t know. He’s young, and it’s complicated. But he’ll start asking more questions soon."

Claire sighed. "I just want to protect him from all this."

"We will," Alex assured her, placing his hand over hers. "Together."

Claire gave a small smile. "You’re right."

With her work done, Claire turned to Leander and said, "She will take you to meet your grandmother."

"Also, your mommy may not be surnamed Smith anymore, but Greg."

"Mommy’s surname is Greg?" Leander was stunned as he looked at Claire.

Claire nodded.

Seeing this, Leander tilted his head and murmured, "So what should my surname be now? Smith, Greg, or Alex?"

"Uh..." Claire looked a little confused. She hadn’t expected this little devil to ask such a question.

Leander continued, "I still prefer to be called Leander."

He wore a self-satisfied expression. Hearing this, Alex’s mouth curved downward in dissatisfaction as he said, "You are my son, so of course you should have my surname."

"Then I won’t have mommy’s surname. I’ll have grandma’s instead."

"..." Alex was speechless.

Claire couldn’t help but laugh aloud. "Alex, you’re really funny."

"Mommy, you’re funny too, haha."

"Oh, don’t make fun of mommy," Claire scolded gently.

Leander immediately restrained his smile and said seriously, "Mommy, so I won’t have the surname Smith anymore?"

"No, you won’t. But if you want the surname Miller, you’ll have to take your father’s name."
