Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 141: Formal

Chapter 141: Formal

"What are you doing here?" Alex asked.

"Long time no see, Alex." Josh’s gaze was locked on Alex as he smiled.

Alex’s expression grew sharper. "Josh, what do you want?"

"What do I want?" Josh sneered. "You can see it yourself. These people are stirring things up, and I couldn’t just sit back and watch, could I?"

"You..." Alex glared at Josh, his anger intensifying.

"I’d advise you not to interfere," Josh said coldly. "After all, you’re not qualified to do so."

"Josh, are you openly shielding the Smith family?" Alex asked, barely containing his irritation.

Josh laughed dismissively. "Shielding them? Alex, I’m helping you solve your problems. Otherwise, do you think you could take on the Smith family with just your resources?"

"I may not have that ability," Alex replied, meeting Josh’s gaze without flinching, "but the Smith family is no match for me either."

Josh’s smile turned icy. "Well, then, let’s see who’s stronger—your group or the Smith family."

"Fine. Let’s wait and see," Alex said, smirking coldly.

Josh narrowed his eyes as a smile appeared on Alex’s lips. "Josh, you’re really regressing as you age."

"Thank you for the compliment," Alex replied calmly.

"Since you don’t know how to appreciate kindness, let’s have some fun," Josh sneered. "Let’s see who’s more powerful!"

"Sure, let’s see who’s more powerful!" Alex responded without hesitation.

Seeing this, Josh’s face turned vicious as he turned and got into his black Rolls-Royce. Alex watched Josh’s back, anger filling his eyes. He looked around at the reporters, rubbed his forehead, and then turned to walk toward the elevator.

When Claire woke up, it was already eight o’clock in the evening.

"Claire, you’re awake?" Alex asked, looking at her with concern.

Claire’s eyes were red as she looked at Alex, her voice choked with emotion. "I’m sorry. It’s all my fault for dragging you down."

Seeing her distress, Alex’s eyes also turned red. "Silly girl, why say such things? You’re my wife. You and our child are my responsibility."

A hint of shyness flashed across Claire’s face, followed by worry. "How’s the child?"

Alex reached out and gently held Claire’s shoulder, comforting her. "Don’t worry, he is fine. Mom is taking care of him."

Hearing Alex’s reassurance, the weight in Claire’s heart slowly lifted. She looked at Alex, her eyes filled with deep guilt. "Alex, it’s all because of me that you’ve been through so much trouble..."

"Don’t think too much about it!" Alex interrupted gently. "You just need to take care of yourself."

Claire nodded softly in agreement. Alex looked at her haggard appearance and couldn’t help but sigh. He reached out and stroked her cheek.

Claire shivered slightly at his intimate touch, turning her head slightly to avoid his hand as she lowered her eyes and whispered, "Thank you, Alex."

"Silly girl, you’re the patient here. Why are you being so polite?" Alex chuckled, pinching her nose playfully.

Claire’s eyes trembled, and she bit her lip, unsure of what to say. She lowered her head and remained silent. Alex looked at her cute and lovely expression and couldn’t help but laugh.

Claire raised her head, confused. "What are you laughing at?"

"Nothing, nothing..." Alex quickly restrained his smile and coughed awkwardly.

Claire eyed him suspiciously.

Sensing her curiosity, Alex quickly changed the subject. "Are you hungry? Let’s go eat."

"Okay," Claire replied obediently.

As he looked at her, Alex felt an indescribable feeling rise in his heart. This woman truly held a special place in his heart. If he could, he would give her all his love, even if it meant sacrificing everything, even the entire Miller family...

But he knew this was a far-fetched dream. He dared not wish for more, for he wasn’t noble enough to pursue it. All he could do was help her regain what rightfully belonged to her, no matter the method. He would retrieve everything for Claire that she deserved, so she could return to her rightful place and start anew.

As Alex pondered these thoughts, his expression darkened.

"What’s wrong, Alex?" Claire noticed his gloomy expression and asked, worried.

Alex shook his head. "It’s nothing."

She looked at him for a moment, hesitating before finally asking, "Will you... divorce me?"

The word "divorce" pierced Alex’s heart, but he kept a gentle smile on his face. "Silly girl, of course not."

Claire let out a sigh of relief. "That’s good. I was afraid our marriage would be affected..."

All she desired was a peaceful and happy life.

Alex smiled and gently rubbed her nose. "Alright, let’s not talk about that. Eat your meal quickly."

"Okay."

Claire replied softly. When she tried to stand from the hospital bed, she struggled, and Alex quickly supported her, helping her sit back down.

"After you finish eating, rest for a while," he advised gently.

"Okay."

Alex looked at Claire for a moment, then picked up a bowl of porridge and scooped up a spoonful, bringing it to her mouth. "Open your mouth."

Claire blushed slightly at his words.

"Quick, open your mouth," Alex urged, frowning slightly.

After hesitating for a moment, Claire finally opened her mouth, and Alex fed her the porridge. "It’s hot, drink slowly," he reminded her.

Watching Alex’s attentive and caring behavior, Claire was moved to tears. She thought about the reporters surrounding them earlier and felt even more guilty, not knowing the full impact this incident had on him. This only deepened her feelings of unease

She grabbed Alex’s wrist and pleaded, "Alex, it’s all my fault. I’m sorry..."

"Don’t say that it’s your fault. I just hope you can live well. I don’t care about anything else," Alex replied gently, a soft smile on his face.

Claire looked at Alex’s handsome profile, her eyes turning red once again. She sniffed, holding back her tears, and looked up at him with a determined and serious tone. "I promise you, I will live well."

Upon hearing Claire’s firm response, a hint of surprise flashed in Alex’s eyes. He reached out, held her face, and planted a light kiss on her forehead. "Claire, I love you. You will always be my most precious treasure."

As she listened to Alex’s warm words, tears streamed down Claire’s face.

"Hurry up and get better. I have a surprise for you," Alex said softly.

"A surprise? What kind of surprise?" Claire asked curiously.

Alex looked at her and, keeping her in suspense, replied, "You’ll find out when the time comes."

Claire pouted and said, "Alright then."

Alex looked at her cute expression, and a hint of indulgence flashed in his eyes. "You always pretend to be silly!"

After speaking, he reached out and gently rubbed her head. They exchanged a smile, filled with warmth and understanding.

Claire ate a little, then lay back against the headboard, gazing out at the night through the window as her thoughts raced, her emotions in turmoil.

"Alex," Claire called softly.

"Hm?" Alex turned his head and smiled at her.

After a moment’s thought, Claire said, "I want to ask you something..."

Alex, sensing her intention, replied, "If you want to know something, just ask me directly."

Claire hesitated slightly, then asked, "I want to know if those reporters today were from the Smith family."

Alex looked at her, surprised by her question, and furrowed his brows. "Why do you ask?"

Claire paused, then explained, "I was surrounded by reporters at the hospital today, and I think they were sent by the Smith family."

A cold glint flashed in Alex’s eyes. "Don’t worry about it. I’ve already taken care of it."

"Thank you," Claire said, expressing her gratitude.

Claire hadn’t wanted to involve Alex, but she couldn’t stand by and let the Smith family frame him. She felt conflicted.

"Don’t be so formal with me," Alex replied, gently touching her head.

Claire looked at him, then asked, "Where is Anna now?"

"Oh, her?" Alex’s face showed a brief flash of disgust at the mention of her name, but he quickly concealed it. "I’ve already sent her away."

"Really?" Claire asked, a hopeful tone in her voice.

Alex nodded slightly. "Yes."

"I have a feeling that she and Lucy are behind this," Claire said firmly.

Alex pondered her words for a moment. "Why are you so sure they’re working together to frame you?" he asked.

Claire thought about her experiences at the hospital over the past few days, and anger began to rise within her. "I don’t know for certain, but I know they’re definitely behind this," she said, gritting her teeth.

Alex couldn’t help but chuckle at Claire’s frustrated expression, then asked, "So you suspect that Lucy and Anna conspired to frame you?"

"There’s no other explanation," Claire said firmly.

"Claire, I think we still need to investigate this further. Don’t let it get to you," Alex comforted her.

Claire nodded. "Alright, I’ll listen to you."

Seeing her calm down, Alex smiled with satisfaction.

At the same time, in the Greg family mansion, Lucy held her phone, listening to the voice on the other end with a deep frown.

"What did you say? Josh helped her out of trouble?"
