Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 123: Illegitimate child

Chapter 123: Illegitimate child

Anna snorted coldly and said, "I only trust my own judgment, and every word others say is not enough to be used as a basis."

Cole shrugged his shoulders and spread his hands. "In that case, I can’t help it. Anyway, I’ve given you a chance. Whether you cherish it or not..."

He sighed softly, his tone full of regret. "That depends on your luck."

"What exactly do you want?" A look of panic appeared on Anna’s pretty face as she asked eagerly.

"Don’t forget, I am the eldest daughter of the Smith family. If you kidnap me, my father will never let it go!" she warned, her voice shaky with desperation. "I’m not trying to scare you, but if you dare to hurt me even a little, you’ll never escape legal punishment!"

"Anna, you’re still too naive, how can the father that can’t protect himself and his daughter come after me" Cole chuckled lightly. "People like us, we do things our way. There’s no controlling us. We can easily threaten your father with you."

Anna’s face turned pale, her breathing becoming shallow. She knew Cole was right. Her life, and her father’s, were in his hands. There was nothing she could do to stop him.

"What on earth do you want?" she shouted angrily.

"I don’t want anything," Cole said with a laugh. "I just hope you can cooperate with us."

"Cooperate with what?" Anna gritted her teeth.

"When you see Alex, you’ll understand," Cole replied. After a brief pause, he continued, "Now, go take a shower and change your clothes."

Anna gave him a cold stare. "And what if I don’t want to?"

"You have no right to refuse." Cole glanced at her dismissively before turning and walking towards the factory gate.

"Bastard!" Anna gritted her teeth. "You’d better behave," Cole said without turning back. "Or else, your father will be permanently disabled."

Anna’s body trembled at the threat. "If you dare hurt my father, I’ll never forgive you!" she screamed.

"Let’s wait and see," Cole replied as he walked out of the factory.

Meanwhile, at the Smith family mansion, Claire sat on the sofa, her brows furrowed in frustration. Alex had been gone for too long. What could have delayed him?

"Mom, are you worried about Dad?" Leander asked in a childish voice, standing by the coffee table. "Dad’s a superhero. He’ll come back triumphant."

Claire snapped out of her thoughts and smiled gently at her son, rubbing his head. "Your dad is a great hero. Nothing will happen to him."

Leander nodded eagerly. "Mom, let’s eat. I’m hungry."

Claire glanced at the time, got up, and said, "Alright, let’s go."

The two left the living room.

Not far from the Smith family estate, in a black car, Cole sat in the passenger seat, a cigarette dangling from his lips. Next to him, behind the wheel, was a burly man—one of the key members of the Black Dragon Gang.

"Boss, do you think Anna will agree to our terms?" the man asked, glancing at Cole.

"She’s not stupid," Cole replied flatly. "She knows she doesn’t have much choice."

Cole frowned and muttered, "Why hasn’t Alex come back yet?"

Frenard, sitting beside him, shook his head. "Probably nothing, boss. Alex might not be the most reliable, but he’s got decent strength."

Cole nodded. "If we can’t even handle him, then maybe it’s time to find another line of work."

Frenard hesitated before asking, "Boss, is it really okay for us to kidnap Anna this time?"

Cole snorted. "What are you afraid of? We’re just doing a job for someone. It’s not like we’re killing anyone. As long as we don’t leave any traces, no one will know."

Frenard nodded in agreement. "True enough, boss."

"Let’s go." Cole threw his cigarette on the ground, opened the door, and got out of the car.

The two made their way toward the Miller estate. The Miller family villa covered several acres, with a four-meter-high courtyard wall and an iron fence that surrounded the entire property, making it difficult for intruders to enter. Inside, trees and flowers were arranged tastefully, and the place was bustling with servants attending to various tasks.

At that moment, Cole and Frenard managed to avoid the guards at the gate and quietly slipped into the estate.

"Boss, it’s really quiet here," Frenard whispered.

Cole scanned the surroundings and nodded. "Not only quiet, but security is tight. Capturing Alex here might be as hard as reaching the sky."

Frenard grimaced. "I noticed the security inside is heavy. A sneak attack would be difficult."

"So, what? Do we break in openly?" Cole frowned.

Frenard hesitated and finally replied, "Seems like that’s the only way."

Cole gave him a hard look. "Are you sure?"

"Well..." Frenard paused, then admitted awkwardly, "I’m not sure."

Cole rolled his eyes in frustration. "Useless!"

Frenard scratched the back of his head, embarrassed.

Suddenly, Cole’s eyes lit up. "How about... we change our strategy?"

"Change strategy?" Frenard asked, looking confused.

Cole pointed toward a nearby building. "The Miller family might be powerful, but they’re not invincible. That building is their weak spot."

"You’re right," Frenard agreed. "After all, his wife and kid live there. There’s no way he wouldn’t care."

Cole’s eyes narrowed. "Before Alex returns, let’s check out that building."

"What if we’re discovered?" Frenard asked, hesitant.

Cole smirked in disdain. "Even better. If we’re found, we’ll follow the clues and find his weakness."

"Alright, I’m with you," Frenard agreed.

"Come on, follow me," Cole said, giving Frenard a pat on the shoulder as they headed towards the building.

Meanwhile, Alex was restless. He had just received word that Cole had arrived. Though angered, he couldn’t act recklessly, as this was all part of Claire’s plan. Claire had made it clear—no one was to interfere.

Alex couldn’t go against Claire’s wishes, so he could only wait quietly in the Miller family villa for Cole to arrive.

Boom.

The sudden sound echoed across the area.

Alex was startled. He quickly got up and rushed toward the source of the noise. When Alex reached the Miller family villa, he saw Cole standing in the middle of the courtyard with Frenard behind him. Surrounding them, numerous bodyguards in black stood by, awaiting Alex’s orders.

However, Alex simply raised his hands, signaling them to wait.

"Come closer," Frenard nodded. "Don’t worry, Cole."

"Good." Cole smiled in satisfaction, then turned to Alex and teased, "Mr. Miller, your bodyguards seem even more alert than those of our organization."

Alex let out a small laugh. "Hehe, my bodyguards enjoy martial arts in their free time. They’ve grown a bit arrogant because of it. Please forgive them, Cole."

"No worries. Young people tend to be a bit arrogant sometimes." Cole chuckled.

After some brief pleasantries, the two men headed into the villa, with Alex leading the way. Once inside the living room, Cole’s eyes roamed around until they landed on a fruit knife on the coffee table. He licked his lips, his curiosity piqued.

"Mr. Miller, what do you have prepared for us?" he asked, his eyes fixed on the knife.

Alex gave a mysterious smile and gestured toward the sofa.

Cole followed his gaze and noticed the sharp fruit knife beside it.

"Mr. Miller, isn’t this a bit unfriendly?" Cole’s expression darkened.

Alex smirked. "Cole, we’ve had our disputes for many years. You’ve avoided me all this time and even kidnapped my wife. I can forgive all of that. But I need to understand—why are you targeting me? We have no history of animosity. So why the hostility?"

Alex’s eyes bored into Cole’s, each word sharp and deliberate. "Tell me, why are you targeting me?"

Cole was silent for a moment before replying, "We have no personal grudge, but we are destined to be enemies."

"Why?" Alex asked, his voice cold.

"Because you are the legitimate eldest son of the Miller family, and I am the illegitimate son!" Cole growled.

"I see," Alex murmured, realization dawning on him. He sneered. "All these years, I never expected you to still hold a grudge against my father."

Cole’s expression twisted with anger. "He took everything that should have been mine. How could I not hold a grudge?!"

After a moment, Cole composed himself. "I thought I had put it behind me. But then I found out you were still alive—and you’ve achieved so much, while I was left disfigured and fallen. It’s not fair. I can’t accept it!"

Cole gritted his teeth. "Why should you have everything that rightfully belongs to me?"

"You’re mistaken," Alex said calmly. "What I have was given to me by my parents. It has nothing to do with you."

"Nonsense!" Cole roared, seething with anger. "Tonight, I’ll take everything from you. Even your woman!!!"

Alex’s face darkened. His voice was icy. "Cole, if you dare touch even a single hair on her head, you will regret it."

Cole sneered, "Hahaha. Do you really think your woman loves you, Alex? Do you really believe that child is yours? Don’t forget, we look exactly the same. You say he’s your son, but I say he’s mine!"

As Cole spoke, he became more agitated, his words growing more unhinged.
