Jiang Zhengzhou took a seat in front of his daughter.

He did not utter anything, and the room eventually turned silent.

"I am not sure if we can come out victorious, after all, she is planning to take this to court," Jiang Zhengzhou spoke up. He could not remain silent.

"I have a question to ask, dad," Jiang Lanfen spoke up. She did not care about herself anymore.

She knew she would end up in jail nonetheless. Not only that, but she had this question gnawing at her heart for a while now. She just thought about it deeply now that she was alone in jail.

"And what is that?" Jiang Zhengzhou was curious about what she wanted to ask. He did not know if it was more important than her case presently.

"Why were you so eager to take over Xin’ s properties?" She questioned.

This question caught him unbalanced as he parted his lips, unable to utter a word.

"Why do you ask that?" He chuckled slightly, trying to ease the nervousness he felt within himself.

He wondered why she asked such a question, and that too, at such a critical moment.

"Because I need to know, I would rather not blame you for my current state as you have been a loving father, but we cannot deny the facts which are presented to us," Jiang Lanfen’s emotions were at the peak.

She would rather not blame her dad, but her situation right now caused her to think otherwise.

If her dad had not forced her to hate on Xin Yan, perhaps, she might have been friends with her, and not be in this predicament currently.

"I know you might think it is my fault, and maybe it was, I should not have directed my hatred unto my kids, but what could I have done? I was helpless!" Jiang Zhengzhou explained with a panicky voice.

"Hatred?" Jiang Lanfen became interested, she understood that her dad was about to tell a story, and it would be an important one.

"Hm, I will tell you a story, one which I did not expect to tell, I had thought I would take this to my grave, but I was obviously wrong," he sighed.

Perhaps, it was best to explain it to her. She could also understand why he did what he did.

Jiang Zhengzhou was a young and vibrant man. He might have been poor, but he was contended.

That was until he met Xin Yan’s mother, who was the campus belle at that time. He fell in love with her immediately.

But it was a one-sided love. Wei Xi did not love him, but she considered him to be a friend.

Xin Mingfan transferred to their university, and became friends with the two, and they formed a trio.

Xin Mingfan and Wei Xi did not like each other at first, but doing projects with each other continually caused them to change their views of one another.

Xin Mingfan asked her out, and she accepted since the love they had for each other was mutual.

They kept it a secret, and Jiang Zhengzhou found out by chance.

He had been so mad when he found out, but he decided to act like he did not care about it.

He had wanted them to confide in him, but he was very mistaken. Not only had they not confided in him, rather, they had continued to keep it a secret from him.

When he could not hold it in anymore, he confronted them. They were surprised that he knew, even more so confused by his revelation.

He had revealed that he had always been in love with Wei Xi. This piece of information caught the couple off guard, and they could only stare at him in amazement.

"I apologize, but I do not have feelings for you," this was Wei Xi’s exact words as she apologized.

He shook his head, explaining that he knew it was not going to be possible to get together with her.

They remained friends, and they seemed to be very close, that was on the surface.

Jiang Zhengzhou was plotting something huge. When they were in their final year, Xin Mingfan proposed to Wei Xi, and she happily accepted the proposal.

Jiang Zhengzhou had been the happiest person that day, or that was what they thought.

After graduation, the couple got married, and Jiang Zhengzhou left the country.

He only returned after Wei Xi had birthed Xin Yan. And that was the beginning of his plans.

His hatred had so corroded into him, and he lost his reasoning. He was the reason behind the couple’s car accident which resulted in their deaths.

Yes; Jiang Zhengzhou was responsible for the deaths of two individuals, and the trauma faced by Xin Yan.

As if that were not enough, he aimed to take over the family’s company, which was why he adopted Jiang Lanfen and Yuan Renshu.

He trained them from their tender age into hating the Xins’ just for them to complete his mission.

But the silver lining was that Xin Yan was reborn which changed the trajectory of the results.

Jiang Lanfen sat in place, her face ghastly pale from the revelation she just found out about. She would never have imagined that the reason for all this mess was because of a lady.

"Dad, how could you?" She questioned with an unbelievable look.

She would never have thought that her dad could do something like this. It came as a huge surprise to her, and she found it unbelievable.

"What could I have done? I loved Wei Xi, she was my love, and she will remain my love," he yelled, causing her to shudder.

"Do you think I did not feel bad when I found out she died? I really did not mean to kill her, my intel had informed me that Xin Yan and Xin Mingfan would be the only ones in the car, that was the reason for my actions,

I could not predict that she would also be present in the car, every day, I still get haunted because I was the one who killed the woman I loved," Jiang Zhengzhou scattered his hair.

This was the only regret he had in his life, killing Wei Xi.
