Chapter 390: Vicent and Calvin’s chat

Country E.

"Mr. Calvin—"

Jey’s voice came from behind.

Standing before the expansive floor-to-ceiling window, Calvin remained silent, his brow furrowed.

The impeccably tailored light gray suit accentuated his aristocratic poise and quiet intensity.

Through the glass, his long, narrow peach-blossom eyes surveyed the scene below, his strikingly handsome face etched with icy solemnity.

There was no denying it—the Mega family’s influence here was formidable.

The search for Fany had encountered numerous obstacles, driving home the old adage: "A mighty dragon is no match for a local serpent."

If they wanted to find Fany quickly, alternative measures would be necessary.

"Mr. Calvin," Jey said as he strode into the room.

"Mr. Vicente has arrived."

Vicente—one of those alternative measures Calvin had in mind.

Calvin withdrew his gaze and turned around.

"Show them in."

"Mr. Vincent isn’t alone this time—Miss Taylor is with him," Jey observed his boss’s expression before continuing cautiously.

"Should I inform President Taylor and have him send someone to retrieve Miss Taylor?"

The Taylor family’s search for Melissa had been anything but discreet—it’d been impossible to ignore.

"After all this time, do you really think Taylor doesn’t know?"

Calvin reclined on the sofa, crossing his long legs.

His strikingly handsome face remained impassive as he spoke.

"If he wanted her back, he wouldn’t have waited till now."

It took Jey several seconds to process the implication.

"You mean... President Taylor is tacitly approving Miss Taylor’s relationship with Mr. Vincent—"

Calvin abruptly cut himself off under his employer’s piercing gaze.

"I’ll go and escort them upstairs immediately."

Calvin said nothing, merely lighting a cigarette between his thin lips with practiced ease.

Downstairs.

A broad-shouldered man in loose black casual wear sprawled across a leather chair, the relaxed clothing failing to conceal his athletic physique.

His legs were planted apart with an air of unstudied dominance.

His deep-set eyes were calm as still water, yet couldn’t conceal their sharp intensity.

Paired with his chiseled, handsome features, he exuded an overwhelming masculine aura.

The woman beside him wore a fitted light blue top with a white pleated skirt.

Her fair skin and delicate features radiated youthful charm, giving off an indescribable sweetness.

Their contrasting temperaments—one hard, one soft—should have clashed, yet somehow harmonized perfectly.

"Vicente," Melissa glanced anxiously toward the elevator.

"Why hasn’t Calvin let us up yet? I thought it was urgent?"

Vicente lifted his gaze, taking in her restless expression, his eyes darkening imperceptibly.

"Whether he’s in a hurry or not, I can’t say.

But you certainly seem eager."

His voice, slightly husky, betrayed no emotion—yet carried an unmistakable hint of bitterness.

Melissa didn’t catch the edge in his tone.

"Of course I’m eager! I want to see Calvin as soon as possible..."

When she’d left the capital on a whim to follow Vicente, she hadn’t thought things through.

Now, regret gnawed at her.

That was why she hadn’t dared contact her family all this time—she could only imagine how furious her brother must be.

Calvin and my brother are close friends—he must know about this.

I’ll check things out first before deciding whether to call home.

Vicente understood Melissa’s intention, yet the tightness in his chest refused to ease.

Just then, Jey stepped out of the elevator.

"Mr. Vincent, Miss Taylor, President Calvin sent me to escort you upstairs."

"Coming!"

Melissa immediately rose from her seat and strode toward the elevator.

From behind, she practically radiated eagerness.

Vicente’s dark, inscrutable gaze lingered on her retreating figure for a long moment.

In the end, he said nothing—simply stood and followed.

Inside the office.

"Calvin," Melissa called out, stepping in ahead of Jey and the others, her gaze fixed on Calvin.

Calvin frowned as he looked at her.

Because of their close friendship, he had always treated Melissa like a younger sister.

The fact that she had recklessly run off with some man without a second thought—while it didn’t anger him as much as it had Taylor—certainly didn’t please him either.

Melissa hesitated mid-step.

Was Calvin about to lecture her too?

No sooner had the thought crossed her mind than his calm but displeased voice cut through the air.

"I never realized you could be this impulsive—vanishing without even leaving a word for Taylor?

Just like that?"

Well, speak of the devil.

Melissa shrank under Calvin’s stern, icy expression, her courage instantly deflating.

"I—I wasn’t thinking straight at the time."

Calvin arched a brow, clearly unimpressed with her excuse.

Just then, Jey and Vicente walked in.

Melissa let out a quiet sigh of relief and immediately ducked behind Vicente, peeking at Calvin with a guilty whisper. "I know I messed up.

That’s why I came to ask you about my brother—so I can apologize properly..."

Vicente glanced at the young woman hiding behind him, the faintest hint of a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.

Vincent shifted slightly, shielding her as he stepped toward Calvin.

"President Calvin."

With Vicente present, Calvin couldn’t very well scold her—not when he still needed Vicente’s help with Fanny’s matter.

After shooting Melissa a look that promised retribution later, Calvin turned his attention to Vicente, his expression neutral.

"Mr. Vincent, please have a seat."

Vicente nodded and settled onto the sofa across from Calvin, his deep eyes flicking toward Melissa.

"President Calvin and I have some matters to discuss.

Will you stay, or...?"

Calvin also lifted his gaze, giving Melissa a cool, assessing glance.

So they didn’t want her listening in?

Melissa caught on instantly and pouted.

Tch, all she cared about was whether her dear brother was upset—she couldn’t be bothered with anything else right now.

"I’ll just wander around on my own.

Come find me when you’re done talking."

Vicente gave a slight nod but remained silent. Calvin shifted his gaze to Jey.

"Escort Miss Taylor and make sure she doesn’t wander off." "Understood." Jey bowed slightly.

"Miss Taylor, this way, please."

Was it just her imagination, or had Calvin deliberately emphasized those last two words?

Shooting Calvin a covert glare, Melissa turned and strode out.

Jey nodded at the two men before following her.

Before long, a servant entered with freshly brewed tea, setting it before them.

"I’ll take care of it.

You may leave."

Leaning forward, Calvin personally poured tea for Vicente.

"Mr. Vincent, please."

"Don’t mention it," Vicente took a sip of tea before setting the cup down, his gaze lifting to meet Calvin’s with composed warmth.

"Since you’re Taylor’s friend, Mr. Calvin, you’re a friend of mine as well. If there’s anything I can assist you with, just say the word."

Calvin narrowed his eyes slightly, his tone firm.

"As long as it’s within my power, I won’t refuse."

"Straight to the point," Calvin replied, his expression sharpening as he cut to the chase.

"I’m aware that your people have extensive knowledge of Country E, Mr. Vincent.

I’d like to ask for your help in locating someone."

Calvin then laid out the general scope of the investigation he and the Luther Family had pieced together, detailing the specifics to Vicente.

Vicente arched an eyebrow.

"If I recall correctly, the area you’re asking me to assist with belongs to the Mega family’s territory?"

Calvin didn’t mince words, leaning back in his chair with a nod.

"That’s right.

The Mega family."
