Chapter 350: Chapter 350: A Heart-Stirring Reward
Chiang Xiao was delighted with the peace and quiet, and the next day she visited the town again, sought out a carpenter, and ordered a bed, a desk, and two chairs.
The designs were all very simple, but her desk was much larger than usual because it was for drawing and needed to accommodate large sheets of paper.
Over these days, Ge Liutao also had work to do. The bedding at home still needed to be kept as they might need to return and stay occasionally, so she had to sew a couple more sets of sheets and pillowcases.
Fortunately, there was some usable fabric from the batch Meng Xinian had sent last time, so she used it all up and even made an extra shirt for Chiang Xiao.
Chiang Xiao went back to school.
Ding Dani still looked at her with resentful eyes, while her deskmate Sun Xiaoxing seemed to be avoiding her a bit. Presumably, she knew about Chiang Xiao’s sister-in-law coming to propose marriage, and Sun Xiaoxing felt embarrassed.
Chiang Xiao didn’t pay much attention to them.
She roughly reviewed the textbooks and, after school, finished painting the mural across from the school gate, completing the task assigned.
That mural corridor indeed caught the attention of all the teachers and students in the school, with many students enthusiastically examining the richly illustrated idiomatic stories after class.
And the school teachers were amazed by the high-quality artistry on the entire wall.
However, no one knew it was painted by Chiang Xiao.
A few days later, a leader from above indeed came for an inspection and praised the wall mural, making the principal and Secretary Yao beam with pride.
Secretary Yao also specifically sought out Chiang Xiao afterward to generously praise her.
If it weren’t for that painting, the leader, upon seeing the previous state of the wall, would probably have criticized him to no end. Secretary Yao hadn’t expected a leader to come for an inspection, and that the leader would place such importance on the school’s appearance.
Luckily, he had heeded Chiang Xiao’s words and agreed to let her paint!
Time flew by in a blink.
A month passed.
The weather was gradually getting hotter, but the training in the Alliance District didn’t stop for a single day. Among them, the one training the hardest was Team One Five Eight.
Team One Five Eight had two sub-teams, and half a month ago, the two sub-team leaders had taken on a two-month training plan, after which twenty of the Supervisor Guards from each sub-team would participate in a half-month wilderness elimination contest. The last ones "surviving" and finding their team’s flag, which had been pre-buried, would win.
There were only three flags buried, meaning only three members from a sub-team could win.
The losing sub-team had to do the laundry for the winning sub-team for a month.
As soon as they saw this rule, everyone roared. They had to win! Training was especially hard every day, they would be soaked in sweat, and their clothes were often covered in mud and water. It was tough enough washing their own, let alone someone else’s.
It was not just the hard work, but mainly it was a matter of pride!
Beyond that, there was another reward that made them envious: the three winners would be transferred to a newly built special camp closer to the provincial capital.
As a transfer station between the Alliance District and outside, though not as large as their current location, that camp had strong facilities and equipment, with new barracks. Vehicles were sent to the provincial city frequently, and things like home leave were easier to take than at their current location.
Where they were currently stationed was a bit far from the provincial capital, and they couldn’t even see villagers on a regular day.
Although the training was said to be tougher at the new camp, with half-yearly competitions against the elites of the Alliance District and losers being sent back in disgrace, they were all nevertheless eager to head there.
"Brothers, let’s put in the effort! Forward, forward, forward, let’s beat the Second Team!"
"Let’s beat the Second Team!"
The deafening chants carried on the wind.
