Chapter 887: Chapter 887: The Spoiled Miss of the Wealthy Family
Situ Qinger glowered at Xuexue, who was dressed in white and pure as snow, wishing she could tear off her beautiful exterior.
Ever since Xuexue returned to the General’s Mansion, everything Qinger did seemed to be suppressed by her, driving Qinger to the brink of madness.
Xuexue, carrying herself with the airs of the Eldest Legitimate Daughter, slowly smiled and said, "Second sister, do you see any problem with the outfit I’m wearing?"
"Yes, it’s too shabby!" Although internally shaken by Xuexue’s beauty, Situ Qinger wouldn’t admit it out loud.
"There’s nothing I can do; it’s my unfortunate fate. Having grown up amongst commoners, I’m used to being frugal and wearing whatever I have. The Fourth Prince, having been empathetic to the common people since childhood, surely won’t mind."
For the sake of securing his position as heir, the Fourth Prince had been schooled by the Empress from a young age to cultivate a good reputation in public, particularly before the commoners, which would make ascending to the Crown Prince’s throne in the future much easier.
"Hmph!"
When Xuexue mentioned the Fourth Prince’s empathy for the common people, Situ Qinger dared not interject—it was a matter touching on the Fourth Prince’s reputation. What if she spoke poorly and displeased the Fourth Prince? Hence, she sulkily fell silent.
The coachman snapped back to reality and hastily spoke, "Young ladies, it’s getting late. The Fourth Prince is waiting at the mansion. Please get on the carriage."
The two boarded the carriage in sequence, and it slowly started moving.
"Drive!" The coachman’s loud voice rang out as he harshly cracked the whip on the horse’s back.
"Neigh!"
The horse neighed loudly as it picked up pace rapidly.
"Clatter, clatter..."
"Creak, creak..."
The sound of horse hooves mixed with the creaking of the carriage wheels.
After about the time it takes an incense stick to burn, the carriage slowed down, and one could faintly hear the bustling noise outside.
Through the thin curtains of the carriage window, Xuexue saw the busy streets bustling with people coming and going.
She knew that after two more streets, they would reach the fourth prince’s mansion.
Suddenly, the horse neighed loudly, its hooves left the ground, and it came to an abrupt halt.
This jolt nearly threw Situ Qinger from the carriage, whereas Xuexue sat steadily, her face showing no signs of panic.
"Darn it! What kind of driving is this?" Situ Qinger was thoroughly infuriated, she had gotten up in the middle of the night to prepare her attire, all to catch an extra glance from the Fourth Prince.
"Young ladies, I’m so sorry! There seems to be a problem with the carriage; it appears we hit someone! I’ll go down to check." The coachman’s apologetic voice reached them from outside.
"They’re just worthless wretches. What’s there to look at? If someone died, it’s just a matter of compensating a few taels of silver, it’s no big deal." Situ Qinger was extremely vexed as she hastily adjusted her skirt. She had been waiting since midnight in this outfit, and couldn’t afford a single mishap.
Situ Xueer gave her a cold glance, thinking she was a typical spoiled Miss of the Wealthy Family, as evident from her selfish nature.
Xuexue: "Second sister, how can you say such things?"
At that moment in Situ Cheng, Qinger’s mood was a mess, and her words were sharp, "Big sister, why are you being so sensitive? I wasn’t even talking about you."
On the busy street, Xuexue didn’t want to start a conflict, so she stepped out of the carriage.
In front of the carriage, a crowd had gathered densely, and the carriage driver was squatting at the foremost, doing something unknown.
As Xuexue approached, she saw a Little Baby lying on the ground, with big eyes and a straight, prominent nose, looking exceptionally handsome.
