“Everything I have is given by the General. My servants are also the General’s servants. However, the General wishes to punish, please do so,” Lady Tang felt anxious under his stare, her mind racing, trying to figure out what could have gone wrong that led Situ Yongjie to question her with such an accusatory tone.

Lady Tang was taken aback, realizing it was about the little bastard, and she was quite displeased inside, but she dared not show it in front of Situ Yongjie.

Even before Xuexue returned to the General’s Mansion, I had people clean the courtyard for her and specially assigned a dozen servants at her disposal. How could I have withdrawn them! There must be some misunderstanding,” Lady Tang cried out in feigned innocence, subtly gesturing to Xiao Ting with her eyes.

Having followed Lady Tang for over a decade, Xiao Ting had come to understand her mistress’s intentions with just a glance.

Now that the affairs at Qingyuo Pavilion were exposed, and the General had come to hold someone accountable personally, there had to be a scapegoat.

Otherwise, it would bode ill for the madam, and if misfortune befell her, the rest of the servants would suffer too. Better to take the blame first. The madam would surely find a way to save her.
