Mo Xiaoqiang jumped into the field, gazing at a field full of watermelons as if in a dream, turned his head, and said to Xuexue, “Xuexue, would it be alright if Dad picked some to take home and eat?”

Xuexue turned her face away, dismissively stating, “Dad, it’s shameful that you, a farmer, would waste crops like this.”

Mo Xiaoqiang looked bewildered, “How is Dad wasting crops then?”

“These are still just melon buds, they haven’t grown up, and you want to eat them? Isn’t that wasting crops?”

Only then did Mo Xiaoqiang realize, so these melons, already so big, were not considered grown yet? He was immensely surprised. The biggest melons he had ever seen were just about this size, how much bigger do they need to be to be considered ripe?

“How much longer will it take for them to ripen?” Mo Xiaoqiang blurted out what was on his mind.

“This is a new variety, I’m not sure myself. When it’s time for them to ripen, they will naturally mature.” Xuexue clearly didn’t want to say too much, mainly because she saw that Mo Xiaoqiang didn’t come to ask about watermelons himself–it must be Auntie Sun who sent him. Therefore, she didn’t want to reveal too much information, considering it a trade secret.

“Xuexue, come here, Dad has something to tell you.”

After sighing, Mo Xiaoqiang stepped back onto the field ridge, dragging Xuexue to the side as Big Bull stood aside–he did not want Big Bull to overhear.

“What is it?”

Xuexue was somewhat impatient; this lousy father of hers probably had some mischief in mind again.

“Dad has had a falling out with your grandmother recently, and I haven’t a single Copper Coin to my name. Could you give Dad some Silver to spend?” he said whisperingly, while his eyes pleaded with Xuexue.

“Where would I have Silver?”

Xuexue flatly refused, still bearing a grudge for the time he conspired with Aunt Sun to harm her.

“Don’t play dumb with Dad now. Your family is now the wealthiest in Mo Family Village, how can you not have a few taels of Silver to spare?” Mo Xiaoqiang said incredulously, thought for a moment, and then added, “Xuexue, don’t forget, I am your birth father, no matter how much you resent me, you’ll have to support your father in the future. Otherwise, people will curse you behind your back.”

Mo Xiaoqiang was subtly but clearly telling Xuexue that she’d never be able to rid herself of him as her father in this lifetime.

Xuexue’s eyes darted around, then suddenly, she changed her tone and said, “Daddy’s right, our father-daughter feud shouldn’t last till the next day.”
