Chapter 271 - Chapter 271 Chapter 271 Dizzy from a Fall
Chapter 271: Chapter 271: Dizzy from a Fall Chapter 271: Chapter 271: Dizzy from a Fall The people who had kidnapped her carried Xuexue without uttering a word. After a long and bumpy ride, she felt that she was brought somewhere.
She was thrown roughly to the ground, leaving her dizzy and disoriented. She dared not make a sound, fearing they might gag her, which would leave her unable to call for help.
“Shopkeeper ordered us to catch her and keep her here. Our task is done; let’s head back. As for the rest, the shopkeeper will handle it,” Xuexue heard a man’s coarse voice say.
“Yes.”
The response came from several men, followed by the sound of them locking the door and their messy footsteps gradually fading away.
“Xiao Taohong, Xiao Taohong.” Xuexue couldn’t see anything inside the sack, everything around her was pitch dark. She hurriedly called for Xiao Taohong’s help.
Xiao Taohong floated out from the space and helped her untie the sack.
“Master, who exactly did you offend? Why would someone target you, a simple village girl?”
Xuexue crawled out of the sack, knowing very well it must be the shopkeeper of Great Harmony Restaurant, retaliating because she had declined to collaborate with him, causing his business to plummet. She was just reminded by Shopkeeper Fan, and now, they had acted so swiftly.
“I know who it is, it’s all business related,” she said.
“Master, why bother at all? Making a few Copper Coins, yet risking your life.”
“You think I’m like you, not needing to eat?”
“Master, why say that? I’m only looking out for you, and you end up mocking me?” Xiao Taohong felt wronged. She knew she was a ghost, but it’s not like she had a choice.
“I’m not mocking you! I’m praising you! You’re a ghost, do you need to eat anyway?”
“This…”
Xiao Taohong was suddenly at a loss for words. It seemed Xuexue was right, but why did it feel so odd?
After the bumpy journey, Xuexue didn’t know where they had taken her. She decided to go out and investigate. She walked to the door and tried to pry it open several times, but the door didn’t budge, apparently locked tight from the outside.
“Xiao Taohong, go outside and help me pry open that lock.”
“Okay.”
Xiao Taohong promptly floated through the door crack, leaving Xuexue staring in amazement. Being a ghost had its advantages; not being obstructed by anything and going wherever one wanted must be so refreshing.
Suddenly, the floated-out Xiao Taohong came back, “Master, master, someone’s coming. Should I go scare them away?”
Xuexue thought for a moment. She had only suspected that the kidnappers were from Great Harmony Restaurant. She wanted to see who exactly had kidnapped her and said, “No need for now, let them come in.”
“Alright,” Xiao Taohong paused, then added, “Master, do you want to get back into the sack?”
“Hmm.”
Xuexue nodded, quickly slipping back into the sack while Xiao Taohong casually covered her up, making her disappear from sight.
Noisy footsteps approached from outside, followed by the loud sound of the door being opened…
“Shopkeeper, that ungrateful girl is confined inside,” someone said.
“Hmm! Miss Mo is a noble, did you treat her well?”
“This…!”
The questioned person felt terribly aggrieved. Everything about the girl’s treatment was instructed beforehand by the shopkeeper. Why was he questioning it now?
“Where is she?”
The questioned person pointed to the sack on the ground, saying, “Shopkeeper, she’s right there.”
Housekeeper Zhang was shocked and furiously berated the men, “I asked you to invite Miss Mo. How could you treat her like this? I’ll see to your punishment later. This is outrageous; you mess up every task you’re given!”
