Chapter 249 - Chapter 249 Chapter 249 Dust
Chapter 249: Chapter 249 Dust Chapter 249: Chapter 249 Dust Auntie Sun was about to turn and go to the kitchen.
For some reason, the house’s main gate, which was originally bolted, emitted a loud noise and then, with a thunderous crash, collapsed inward…
Dust billowed up from the ground.
Old Lady Mo and Auntie Sun were startled and quickly turned their heads to look…
Through the swirling dust, two figures entered; it was Xuexue and Big Bull.
“You… you… you wretched girl, are you trying to rebel?”
Old Lady Mo was both shocked and scared, and, of course, her fear stemmed from Big Bull. It was said that Lady Li’s leg from the village had been broken by him, and even though it had healed, on rainy days they say it would still ache from time to time. Old and frail, she hoped to live a few more years and couldn’t stand such turmoil.
“Grandmother, what are you talking about?” Xuexue approached Old Lady Mo with a smile on her face.
“Still playing the fool? Why would you smash our door as soon as you arrive?” Afraid to raise her voice because of the intimidating Big Bull nearby, Old Lady Mo bent her head and muttered through clenched teeth, hoping the fool wouldn’t understand.
“It’s simply the case of ‘what’s good for the goose is good for the gander’,” Xuexue retorted.
“What first day of the month? What fifteenth day?” Although well aware that they had come because of the young garlic shoots, Old Lady Mo, cunning as she was, pretended to be ignorant.
Xuexue frowned and glanced at Auntie Sun beside her, hinting pointedly, “Oh! It seems we’ve come at the right time. Clearly, someone didn’t relay my message.”
Head bowed, Auntie Sun looked submissive, but inside she was furiously cursing. Just because she hadn’t brought back the young garlic shoots earlier, Old Lady Mo had looked ready to devour her; venting such rage, if Auntie Sun had spoken out, she would have met her demise even faster.
“What message?” Old Lady Mo looked utterly confounded, glancing around for an answer, but Auntie Sun, head still lowered, gave no hint.
“If you dare touch my garlic shoots again, I’ll tear down this house,” Xuexue declared, looking straight at Old Lady Mo with a defiant face.
“You wouldn’t dare,” Old Lady Mo’s beady eyes widened with anger.
“I may not, but he would,” Xuexue pointed to Big Bull standing beside her, unfazed.
“You… you cunning person, those fields are clearly the Mo family’s, what right do you have to forbid me from picking the garlic shoots in my own fields?” Old Lady Mo trembled with rage.
At this blatant audacity, Xuexue could barely suppress a chuckle.
“Great grandmother, you surely have a short memory. Those two acres of land now belong to my mother, and we have the Land Deed to prove it. Even if we went to the government office, our claim would stand,” Xuexue reminded her.
Indeed, the village head had already taken care of the official procedures at the government office to prevent the Mo family from going back on their word. And as expected, it had become necessary so soon. The village head truly had foresight.
With a single statement, Xuexue had Old Lady Mo choking on her words. The older woman’s eyes darted about as she uttered another evasive retort, “As your grandmother, it’s only right for me to eat a few of your garlic shoots. You unfilial descendant!”
“As your granddaughters, it’s our duty to support you, isn’t it?” Xuexue said, her face bright with a smile.
“Exactly! That’s a principle that holds true no matter where you go,” Old Lady Mo lifted her wrinkled face proudly, thinking to herself that Xuexue, a foolish girl of her tender age, was no match for her in an argument. Even if there were no reason, she would twist it into one.
“In that case, starting today, Chuner and I will come every day to eat at the Mo family,” Xuexue unexpectedly proclaimed.
Old Lady Mo was momentarily stunned. Her complacent expression immediately darkened, “Once you leave the Mo family, don’t even think about coming back to take advantage of even a single grain of rice.”
