Chapter 1123: Chapter 1123: Bitten by a Wolf Dog
Why exactly Tang Jinghao came back covered in injuries, the couple still had no idea what had happened.
Tang Jinghao was gravely injured all over his body, his life hanging by a thread. Bruised and swollen, he could only utter indistinct sounds like "uh-huh, ah-ah," making it impossible for him to speak.
"Prince! Why are you still sitting here doing nothing? Our son has been beaten to this state—shouldn’t you quickly think of a way to avenge him?"
Their son had left in good health that morning, only to return in this terrible condition. The Capital’s Prince Pu was also deeply distressed. Suddenly, he smacked his forehead and exclaimed, "Oh, how could I forget!"
"What is it?"
"The servants—the ones who went out with Haohao—they must know what happened! Quickly, summon them and interrogate them."
They had been busy all night trying to save Tang Jinghao, leaving no time to investigate what had occurred. Besides, with Tang Jinghao bruised and swollen and incapable of speech, questioning him would have been futile.
"Yes, yes, exactly!"
Princess Consort Pu turned around, intending to order the servants who had accompanied the Young Master to come forward for questioning. Before she could give the order, Auntie Tang entered the room with her maid.
"Mother, what happened? How did my younger brother end up like this?"
Auntie Tang had just barely stepped inside when she caught sight of Tang Jinghao lying on the bed, his entire body wrapped in bandages. Shocked, she hurried to his bedside to take a closer look.
The Princess Consort Pu began to cry again upon hearing this: "Your brother truly has a bitter fate. Yesterday morning, he was perfectly fine, but look at him now! If not for the doctor’s timely rescue, he would’ve lost his life. Who could be so heartless to treat him like this? Sob, sob..."
At the mention of her son’s condition, tears overflowed from the Princess Consort’s eyes yet again. Tang Jinghao was her only son, upon whom the future of the Prince Pu’s Mansion relied. Nothing could be allowed to happen to him.
"Mother, please don’t cry. What on earth happened?"
"Who knows? We spent the entire night trying to pull your brother back from Ghost Gate Pass. We’ve barely had a chance to ask."
"Father!" Auntie Tang turned her gaze toward the Prince Pu.
Prince Pu nodded and added, "Indeed! We’ve been working tirelessly all night. We had just thought of questioning the servants when you arrived."
Auntie Tang sat down beside him and said, "Perfect timing! Summon them quickly for questioning."
"Aye!" Prince Pu nodded and turned to the maid standing nearby. "Go and fetch the servants who accompanied the Young Master yesterday!"
"Yes, my lord."
The maid hurried off.
Soon, she returned, bringing in a small group of servants.
"Prince, they are here." After announcing their arrival, she stepped aside to wait on them.
Prince Pu’s sharp gaze swept over the group of house servants before him. His tone was icily stern as he asked, "What exactly happened to the Young Master yesterday? Why is he so severely injured? Who is responsible?"
This was truly intolerable! Everyone in the Capital knew Tang Jinghao was his cherished son. To inflict such injuries on him was an outright challenge to the dignity of the Prince Pu’s Mansion.
"Reporting to the Prince, it was the vicious dog of Wealthy Master Zhang from the eastern part of the city."
"Why would Wealthy Master Zhang’s dog bite Haohao without rhyme or reason?"
The servants stammered, hesitating. "The Y-Young Master... H-he..." They clearly had something difficult to admit.
"What on earth is going on? Even at this point, you refuse to come clean! Do you want to be punished according to the family law?" Prince Pu’s anger erupted.
At the mention of "family law," the house servants’ knees went weak, and they immediately fell to the floor in desperation. "Prince, have mercy! We will confess!"
