Rebirth: Pampered by the Lord
Chapter 1101: Mechanism

Chapter 1101: Chapter 1101: Mechanism

It seems this Zhang San really treats the dwarf as his benefactor; otherwise, a grown man wouldn’t howl and cry in front of strangers.

"Brother! From now on, you’re my blood brother." As he spoke, he reached out and clapped the dwarf’s small shoulder.

The dwarf had lived a solitary life; no one had ever called him brother before. The only person who dared get close to him was his Master.

Feeling slightly uneasy at Zhang San’s touch, he shuffled his body a little.

"You... don’t get too excited. Actually, I’m not your benefactor—I just accidentally killed the Prime Minister’s son. I’m already regretting it deeply!"

With his promising future ruined at his own hands, it was impossible for the dwarf not to feel regret. However, his hatred for the Fourth Prince burned brighter, for the Prince had heartlessly handed him over to the Prime Minister.

"Regret? What’s there to regret? The little bastard deserved to die. His father committed too many sins—this was just divine retribution, hahaha!"

As he spoke, Zhang San let out a mad laugh.

"Heh-heh...!" The dwarf curled his lips into a twisted grin and released a piercing laugh.

"Brother, since you’ve killed that old bastard’s son, he definitely won’t spare you. Think of a way to escape from this dungeon, or you won’t live long!"

The dwarf was already painfully racking his brains: "This place is like an iron fortress. How could we possibly escape?"

"True enough. I’ve been locked in here for over ten years and still haven’t managed to get out, let alone you, a newcomer."

"But that wall over there seems to make strange sounds," Zhang San pointed to the eastern wall as he spoke.

When the dwarf heard this, his eyes lit up. He immediately climbed up from the ground, hurried to the wall, and tapped it. Sure enough, a muffled sound echoed—it seemed hollow inside.

"I’ve studied this wall for a long time," Zhang San said. "I figured out part of it, but I’ve never been able to find where the mechanism is hidden."

"Let’s search every corner together."

The two of them dropped to the ground and began searching everywhere! They didn’t leave a single spot unchecked, but they still couldn’t find the mechanism. Exhausted, they sprawled out on the ground, despair filling their hearts. Their glimmer of hope had dimmed again.

"Could it be Heaven truly wants me dead?"

"Brother, don’t rush to give up. Let’s keep searching."

"Search for what? We’ve already combed through it all. If it were that easy to find, wouldn’t you have discovered it in the past ten years?" The dwarf slumped onto the ground, refusing to get up.

"We must have missed something somewhere."

"This place is only so big—what could we possibly have missed?"

Indeed, the dungeon was small in size, leaving little room for anything to be overlooked.

Suddenly, Zhang San’s eyes lit up as he stared ahead. "Wait a minute—there’s one spot we haven’t checked yet."

"What spot?"

Zhang San pointed toward a corner piled with excrement. "Over there. We skipped it earlier."

"Ah, right!"

The dwarf’s eyes widened in realization. That corner, where Zhang San had relieved himself over years, was so foul with stench and crawling with maggots that they had instinctively bypassed it during their search.

With their lives hanging in the balance, neither man cared about the foulness anymore. They dove in with bare hands, getting themselves covered in excrement and maggots as they clawed through, relentlessly inspecting and searching for clues to the mechanism.

At last, their determination paid off. Just as they were smeared from head to toe in filth, Zhang San unknowingly pressed something...

The eastern wall rumbled loudly, and gradually, a small opening appeared...

"This is amazing! We did it, we did it!" Zhang San couldn’t contain his excitement and cheered aloud, the chains on his wrists and ankles clanging noisily.
