Chapter 1001: Chapter 1001: The Profligate Young Master Tang Jinghao
"No, Jiejie, you must go to Prince Pu’s Mansion tomorrow and demand it back from Prince Pu."
Situ Yongjie casts a glance at Auntie Tang, who is wailing on the floor. Although there is a trace of reluctance, he remembers that this woman sold their ancestral estate, and thus there’s nothing pitiable about her. So, he responds: "Okay!"
Upon hearing this, Auntie Tang feels as if struck by a bolt from the blue. Isn’t this tantamount to driving her to the brink of death?
Indeed, her brother has always been but a spoilt playboy who flits between the brothels of the Capital every day, knowing only pleasure, oblivious to handling Prince Pu’s Mansion.
Over the years, Prince Pu’s Mansion has been sustained by external business to cover the household expenses.
Add to that, this profligate squanders money like water, leaving Prince Pu’s Mansion with almost nothing to spare, with most of the wealth frittered away by this only son.
Prince Pu is enraged and wants to cut off his son’s financial supply, to make him mend his ways.
However, unable to bear seeing her beloved son suffer the slightest hardship, Princess Consort Pu subversively aids him.
Thus, Tang Jinghao continues to lead a carefree and comfortable life.
Prince Pu himself finds he has no way to address the behavior of this mother-son pair and resolves to just let things take their course.
"Mother-in-law, Old Master, I beg of you, please do not do this!" Auntie Tang’s face, originally adorned with an exquisite makeup, is now stained with tears, a smeared mess of black and red, exceedingly wretched.
A beautiful young madam, who usually dresses so dignified and elegant, now suddenly looks frightening, sitting disheveled on the ground, her makeup smeared by tears.
"The matter is settled." Old Madam declares her reluctance to discuss further: "Alright! Everyone, leave us. It’s getting late, and I need to rest."
Situ Yongjie: "Mother, your son asks to be excused."
"Hmm!" Old Madam nods and, losing patience, glances disdainfully at the sobbing Auntie Tang, saying: "Jiejie, while you’re at it, get this nuisance of a woman out of my sight. Her wailing is unseemly."
"As you command."
Situ Yongjie gestures to two guards behind him: "Come, take Auntie Tang out and don’t disturb Old Madam’s rest."
"Yes."
The two guards, upon receiving orders, flank Auntie Tang on either side, attempting to lead her away.
As Auntie Tang struggles and wails: "Old Master, Mother-in-law, you cannot treat me this way."
The guards, impervious to her pleas, are only obedient to Situ Yongjie. They firmly hold down Auntie Tang, who tries to break free, and drag her out.
Witnessing this, Xuexue also stands up and follows Situ Yongjie out.
"Father."
"Hmm?"
Situ Yongjie turns his head and looks at her: "I’m sorry you had to endure this evening."
In fact, he had already been informed of the events by his subordinates.
Hearing this, Xuexue smiles: "Isn’t your daughter fine now? The one with the real trouble seems to be your wife."
Situ Yongjie falls silent for a good while and then says in a quiet voice, "Father has wronged your mother, should have never taken this woman into the General’s Mansion. It has caused you and your mother to be separated by life and death forever."
"Father, don’t feel guilty. Your daughter has already heard from my foster mother that it was The Emperor’s decree that bestowed the marriage. You had no choice, too. You surely couldn’t have allowed everyone in the household to be executed, could you?"
Xuexue expresses her understanding.
Indeed, defying an imperial decree is a severe disrespect to The Emperor.
If The Emperor becomes furiously angered, execution would be a minor consequence. The most feared is the nine familial exterminations.
So many innocent lives could be lost as a result.
