Chapter 1519: Chapter 1491: How Much Information Can Be Conveyed in a Single Sentence
The subconscious is a very strange thing; a lot of our behavior seems casual, but it is actually controlled by the subconscious.
Take Kiara, for example.
Her past life memories had been wiped off by JR, and when she returned, she deliberately downplayed this part of her experience. Apart from Fox Cat, no one else knew that she once had memories of a past life.
Everyone just thought she lost an inconsequential memory. Yuzo Joel and the others didn’t think about helping Kiara recover it, considering it time-consuming and potentially requiring medication. If the person herself thinks the memory doesn’t affect her life, then there’s no need to retrieve it. After all, all medicines have their toxins, especially those affecting neural functions; it’s best to avoid them if possible.
Kiara thought so too.
Yet, when she registered a license and chose a moderately-sized Grill House under the influence of her subconscious, her mind seemed to conjure up a scene.
It was as if there had been a day when, strapped for cash, she took her daughter to such a place. She ordered a bunch of skewers for herself and a bowl of egg custard for her child. Despite the financial struggle, there was a faint sense of joy in her heart, as if they were celebrating something.
Normally, they would have to be frugal to make ends meet. Being able to eat at a place like this was not easy.
The thought flashed through Kiara’s mind, and she quickly came back to her senses, just as the waiter patiently waited for her to order.
"A bunch of meat tendons and a bowl of egg custard," Kiara handed the menu to Isaac and then turned to see her daughter sitting disdainfully in the baby chair at her side.
The kid had had enough of custard!
There are so many baby complementary foods. If Grandmother were here, she’d surely make a variety of things. Although Grandpa Griffin isn’t good at cooking, Uncle Farmbright could still make some fish paste or something. Why does it come down to the most basic food with Mother?
Resisting!
Pouting with those chubby cheeks in protest!
Kiara pinched her child’s face upon seeing this expression and said affectionately, "You little rascal, have you forgotten the tough days? Back when I was too busy, just giving you a steamed bun to nibble on was enough, and now you’re disdainful of egg custard?"
Upon hearing the phrase about munching on a steamed bun, Isaac suddenly became serious and looked at Mrs. Kiara with disapproval after passing the menu to Fox Cat.
"You actually abused Wendy! This is the golden age for a child’s physical development; how could you let her eat only steamed buns?!"
Fox Cat also stared at Kiara, who rubbed her temples.
"I don’t know what’s happening; my mind is filled with all these chaotic images. Maybe it’s a side effect from the shots," she said.
Fox Cat pondered her words. He knew Kiara had memories of a past life. Could those be from her past life?
That simple statement revealed so much information.
First, in her past life, she also had a daughter with that Military Dog.
Second, she lived a financially hard life in her past...
Thinking of this, Fox Cat felt a pang of empathy. What the hell was that Military Dog doing, letting her struggle with a child? If he’s the same in this life, then it might be better for Kiara to be with him; at least he wouldn’t let the child go hungry for steamed buns!
Isaac, however, didn’t understand, and looked concerned again after the waiter left, saying,
"Mrs. Kiara, are you sure you don’t need to go to the Hospital for a check-up? I’m always very worried about your health."
Kiara shook her head and smiled as she gestured towards Fox Cat.
"I have Senior Brothers who could rival any formal doctor. If there were an issue, they would have treated me already. I’m quite fine as I am now," she said.
Kiara said she was fine, but deep down, a seed of unease was planted.
She didn’t want to retrieve her past life memories, reasoning that one should live in the present. Since everything in her life was going well now, with a happy family and a bright career, why cling to the bitter and profound grievances of a past life.
Although she couldn’t recall her past life, she vaguely understood that those memories were probably not pleasant.
But whenever she saw Fox Cat, there was a slight pain in her heart, as though important information about Fox Cat from her past life memories had been forgotten.
As to what exactly it was, Kiara couldn’t figure it out.
With a mind full of thoughts, Kiara had her dinner and then Fox Cat drove her and Isaac home. First, he dropped Isaac off before preparing to take Kiara home, but just then, Kiara opened her mouth to speak.
"Fox Cat, do you still have copies of the book you wrote?"
"I don’t have the newly published ones, but I do have one from a previous publication. Do you want it?"
"Yeah, give it to me."
Fox Cat parked the car on the side of the road and fetched a book from the trunk, which he had been using to prop up a box.
"What are you looking for in my book?"
"Maybe it’s my soul wanting to have a conversation with you across the distance. You know, reading is the best way to communicate with someone’s soul."
"Hehe... all take and no give, that’s just hooliganism."
The corners of Kiara’s mouth twitched. In her environment where oddballs were a dime a dozen, the probability of Fox Cat being assimilated was quite high. Seeing his current mental state, it seemed likely that his return to normalcy was just around the corner.
When Mario Yuno got off work, he saw his daughter crawling all over the floor, with Beautiful Lady maintaining a crawling posture, following her. Seeing Daddy come home, the little one got extremely excited, waving her small hands to greet him. Mario Yuno picked her up with one hand, only to see his daughter-in-law sitting on the bay window, engrossed in a book.
She didn’t even look up at him when he came back!
"Hey, you wouldn’t even notice if a wolf took the child away!"
"It’s okay, she’s playing a treasure hunt game with Beautiful Lady." Kiara put down the book, finally giving Edward Wheeler a proper greeting.
"Treasure hunt?"
Wendy, hearing Daddy mention those words, wriggled her body, asking Daddy to put her down, and then she crawled toward the shoe rack. Digging out a ball from Daddy’s shoes, she babbled at Mother.
"Oh, you found it, well done! Here’s the next clue, what is always busy in hot weather and busy in cold, but isn’t busy when it’s neither hot nor cold? The next treasure is there!"
"Babbling...?!" Wendy sat on the floor pondering, what could this be?
The little one already had her own logic and reasoning. Kiara and Yuzo Joel were both intentionally and unintentionally training her in this area.
Kiara continued to read her book.
Mario Yuno didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
"Is this how you’ve been deceiving my daughter all afternoon?"
"She had a lot of fun, didn’t she?" Mrs. Kiara always felt like there might be some hints in the book, but after an afternoon of reading, she couldn’t figure it out; instead, she was drawn into Fox Cat’s book.
"Beautiful Lady, sniff!" Mario Yuno saw his daughter crawling all over the house and, in a snap decision, gave a command. Beautiful Lady quickly ran toward the central air conditioning and fetched the small ball from behind it.
Wendy actually had figured it out, but before she could go look for it herself, Daddy had cheated...
"Wow...!"
Feeling cheated, the baby burst into loud crying, pointing at Daddy to express her sorrow, even tattling to Mother.
"Bad!"
Kiara put down her book, glaring at Mario Yuno.
"You come home and start troubling us! We were playing just fine, and you had to make a mess! Look, you made the child cry, didn’t you? Soothe her quick, or else you’ll be sleeping on the sofa tonight!"
Mario Yuno felt quite wronged. He genuinely cared for his daughter and only wanted to let her lazy mother off the hook, thinking of helping his child find a shortcut. Yet, he didn’t receive any praise and instead got the cold shoulder!
Tsk, tsk, fairy tales are all lies.
"My daughter, why are you so easy to deceive? Your mother is the one bluffing you. Only Daddy’s love is the real deal..."
