Chapter 1487: Chapter 1459: The Great Qian’s Solo Dungeon Rush
"I don’t—" James Norris wanted to deny it, but he couldn’t bring himself to say the words.
The feeling was like accidentally getting a toy he really liked, knowing it shouldn’t belong to him but genuinely not wanting to let go.
Thomas Norris watched their reactions with a smug smile.
Everything was within his control.
"If he’s my husband, then why don’t I have any recollection of him?" Kiara cast her eyes down, concealing the emotions within them.
Her reaction made her seem like a confused and helpless little woman, but whether she was as fragile as she appeared only she knew.
"You and he are both well-known experts in the Psychiatry Department, always studying the topic of soul particles, but unfortunately... you were involved in a car accident on the way home, suffering a head injury and losing some memories, including important experimental data."
"Soul particles?" Kiara raised her head, her eyes sharp for a moment before she quickly looked down again, concealing her emotions.
"Yes, over 20 years ago we were conducting an experiment on soul particles, and you were the experimental subject—"
"Enough!" James Norris cut off Matt Bailey, who then theatrically wiped the corner of his eye and said,
"I know you care deeply for your wife, but there are still some things that need to be said."
"Have you said enough, you damn basket case?" James Norris tried to rush at him, but was stopped by bodyguards holding him on either side.
"Oh dear, Young Master is too emotional. Take him out to cool off." Matt Bailey looked disdainful and wondered, what on earth had the fine child learned from those incoherent folks at the farmstead to speak such vulgar words?
James Norris was forcibly dragged out, continuing to shout as he was taken away.
"Emma Clark, don’t listen to his nonsense, he’s just a madman! An idiot! A big idiot! Spouting bullshit—mmph."
His voice was silenced, probably because someone gagged him.
Kiara’s lips twitched as if she wanted to laugh but held it in.
Her unusual reaction made Thomas Norris feel surprised, as though her behavior was a bit too extraordinary for someone with memory confusion.
"Continue telling me about the soul particles, I’m very interested," Kiara asked, repressing her smile.
"To put it simply, you’re the daughter of an old friend of mine—of course, he’s been dead for quite some time, and honestly, you should have been dead a long time too."
"So, I’m a ghost now?" Kiara raised her hand, letting the sunlight cast deep shadows on her pale skin.
"Not exactly, but the fact that you’re alive is due to my efforts alone."
"Heh heh... shameless," Kiara muttered under her breath.
"What was that?" Thomas Norris didn’t catch it.
Kiara gave him a radiant smile, "I’m saying, you’ve really worked hard, please continue your performance."
Has this... has this Kiara really lost her memory?!
Thomas Norris felt an uncomfortable sense of being manipulated, as the image he had envisioned of Kiara losing her memory and being led by the nose hadn’t materialized.
Moreover, he had a strange feeling of being looked down upon... Don’t ask why he felt this way, but the girl’s gaze and tone were inherently taunting!
It was a truly heart-stabbing feeling... just like her annoying father!
Thomas Norris suppressed the uncomfortable feeling of déjà vu, and continued speaking.
"You were born with an illness that put your life at great risk, and your father was utterly irresponsible, indulging in eating, drinking, gambling, drugs, and womanizing, especially with little girls—"
"Are you sure you’re talking about my dad and not yourself?"
"Of course it’s your father—Do you remember anything?"
Kiara looked down, "No, I’ve lost my memory, go on."
"You’re supposed to act like you’ve lost your memory when you lose your memory, damn it!" Thomas Norris’s inner true feelings.
"Anyway, your father really didn’t focus on the right things. Only I cared about you and braved all the pressure to conduct the disapproved Soul Particle Experiment. The process was very complicated. Basically, your soul swapped with that of an ordinary little girl. Then your damn dad died, and I adopted you, even arranged for you to marry my only son."
"Are you just insanely jealous of my dad? So jealous that you wished he was dead?"
"..." Thomas Norris with a questioning face.
Kiara blinked, "I really lost my memory. Everything just slipped out; I don’t even know why I said that."
Well... Thomas Norris suppressed his underlying doubts, definitely needed to add a post-medication side effect description—when did honesty become your thing?
"Later, you and your husband fell in love and both of you aspired to research this important study that might change the human race. But, unfortunately, you had a car accident and lost some memories... Kiara, as my daughter-in-law, do you think you have an obligation to cooperate with our research?"
"Like what?" Kiara’s voice took on a hint of heaviness, so that’s how it was...
"Cooperate with us in some assessments, help us with some physical function tests—don’t worry, these tests won’t harm you. I just need to confirm whether you are the successful case from the experiment back then."
"Okay."
"This is greatly beneficial to the advancement of all of humanity, you must—" Eh, you agreed?"
Thomas Norris was mentally prepared for Kiara’s non-cooperation, given her abnormal behavior since waking up; she’s not the type who plays by the rules.
"Everyone should know how they came into this world, and I’m no exception..." Kiara felt an inexplicable sting.
So that’s how she came into this world... No wonder something had always felt off.
This place might hold the secret of her birth, and this Matt Bailey—clearly no saint—
"I haven’t asked yet, what’s your name?"
"I’m Thomas Norris, James Norris’s father, and your father-in-law."
"Oh, Charles Norris, nice to meet you."
"..." Why does he feel like he’s being called the grand eunuch of the inner court?
"Charles Norris, do you need anything else? Charles Norris, may I rest a bit?"
"...Actually, you can drop the last name, or just call me dad." It feels so weird to be called that.
"I don’t know why, but ’dad’ just doesn’t come out. The moment I think of ’dad,’ my head starts to hurt—why does it hurt so much?"
Kiara pretended to rub her head, and Thomas Norris, afraid she would remember something that would upset her, quickly said,
"If you don’t want to call me that, it’s fine. Call me whatever you’re comfortable with. Can you rest for now and start the experiment this afternoon?"
"Yes, Charles Norris, nice to meet you, and goodbye, Charles Norris."
Charles Norris left the room under Kiara’s strange gaze, and Molly Palmer came over and asked.
"Why explain so much to her? Wouldn’t it work to just do the experiment directly?"
"There’s a difference in the results between someone who cooperates voluntarily and someone who resists on purpose— are you keeping a close watch on her?"
"Yes."
In the room where Thomas Norris couldn’t see, Kiara’s eyes scanned the surroundings. Just as she suspected, there were no communication devices, essentially making it an isolated island with no way to contact the outside world.
"Dad? Hah, as if you’re worthy!" Kiara sneered inside, pondering her next move.
It seemed she would have to solo this instance and take on a group alone for now.
