Rebirth of the Peak Young Master
Chapter 83: Vying to Perform

Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Vying to Perform

Fiftieth-floor revolving restaurant of the Purple Mist Building.

It’s said to be the most expensive dining venue in Yingtian at present, and Wenyuan Hall is one of the few luxurious private rooms in the revolving restaurant!

Back in high school in Bamboo County, apart from Ma Heng’s family, which was relatively well-off, the rest were all from ordinary households. So every high school reunion was usually held at some regular restaurants.

But this time, solely because of hearing that Fan Liya would attend, Ma Heng went out of his way to plead with a wealthy young master from Yuntai, managing to secure Wenyuan Hall at a high cost.

Yet, not only did Fan Liya fail to show the slightest trace of admiration for Ma Heng’s effort, but she was even sitting with someone whose name Ma Heng couldn’t even remember—Ye Fei.

This was something Ma Heng’s pride simply could not tolerate!

"Damn it! A country bumpkin dares to compete with me for a woman? This piece of shit doesn’t even know his place!"

As Ma Heng stared at Ye Fei, who was sitting with Fan Liya, the more he looked, the more displeased he became. Immediately, he signaled to a classmate who was in the know with a subtle glance.

The guy was Feng Ming, whose father worked under Ma Heng’s father.

For that reason, he had always been Ma Heng’s lackey.

Seeing Ma Heng’s look, Feng Ming instantly understood and gave a slight nod. Then, he stood up, raised his glass, and said, "Hey guys, don’t just focus on eating! The fact that we’re dining here in Wenyuan Hall—somewhere we wouldn’t even dream of entering in a hundred years—is all thanks to who?"

"Does that even need to be said? Of course, it’s all thanks to Bamboo County’s number one rich kid, Young Master Ma, our Ma Heng!"

"Exactly! Since Purple Mist Building was built, I haven’t even stepped foot inside. Let alone dined here!"

"No doubt about it. We must give Young Master Ma a proper toast!"

Not that the others were fools.

Back in high school, everyone used to despise Feng Ming for being such a lackey. But now, after coming to Yuntai, they gradually began to realize that people’s statuses weren’t the same. The edges of their youthful pride had all been rounded off.

Say what you will, but the fact that Ma Heng could arrange for the reunion to take place in the Purple Mist Building was something they couldn’t manage in multiple lifetimes.

Some of them even began to feel a little envious of Feng Ming, thinking to themselves, "Why was I so foolish back in high school? Why didn’t I kiss up to Ma Heng more?"

So now, seeing Feng Ming take the lead, the rest chimed in one after another.

Seeing this, Ma Heng feigned modesty with satisfaction and said, "Oh, come on, you’re too kind. We’re all high school classmates. We share the good and the bad. Who knows? Maybe one of you will strike it rich someday, and I, Ma Heng, will have to rely on you!"

"Young Master Ma, that’s nonsense. Who among us could possibly compare to you? Come, let’s toast Young Master Ma again!" Feng Ming said as he once again downed his entire glass.

Hearing Feng Ming’s words, Ma Heng naturally wore a prideful expression. However, when his gaze fell upon Fan Liya again, his brows furrowed once more.

Because Fan Liya clearly showed no extra attention to him due to Feng Ming’s remarks. She merely sipped daintily on her drink and didn’t even spare him another glance.

As for Ye Fei, already being someone who practiced cultivation, he couldn’t care less about these frivolities. Not to mention, the entire Purple Mist Building belonged to him anyway. So he merely raised his glass slightly as a token gesture.

Han Ping, on the other hand, was thrilled and mimicked Feng Ming by downing his drink in one go.

Seeing how things were, Ma Heng’s frustration skyrocketed!

Feng Ming noticed the increasingly sour expression on Ma Heng’s face, realizing that his theatrics weren’t working. So he promptly shifted the conversation and said, "By the way, guys! Now that we’re all seniors, with just one year until graduation, what plans do you have for the future?"

"What else? Go back to Bamboo County and pick up our parents’ jobs," one guy chuckled.

Others shared similar sentiments.

Bamboo County, being underdeveloped, perpetuated a tradition of children taking over their parents’ jobs in factories. So when it came to future livelihoods, they didn’t worry much.

Moreover, landing a job in a factory was considered quite respectable in the eyes of Bamboo County residents.

Seeing this, Feng Ming slightly raised his tone and laughed, "Don’t know if you guys still remember, but our high school had someone who got into Yuntai University. Back then, he was Bamboo County’s top scorer on the college entrance exam!"

Swish—

All eyes immediately turned toward Ye Fei.

Given Bamboo County’s limited education resources, while Ye Fei’s grades wouldn’t have stood out at Yuntai University, he was undoubtedly a top student in high school. And in that particular year, Ye Fei was the only one from Bamboo County to get into Yuntai University!

"Ye Fei, the top scorer of our county’s college entrance exam, why don’t you share with us your grand ambitions after graduation?" Feng Ming teased with a laugh.

"Not much ambition. I’ll just do some small business after graduating," Ye Fei said with a smile.

The others, upon hearing Ye Fei’s response, all revealed faintly mocking smirks.

A college entrance exam champion—it sounded impressive. But after graduation, Ye Fei might not be doing better than them. After all, as high school classmates, they knew each other’s backgrounds well. They were well aware that Ye Fei’s parents were humble farmers.

A kid from a poor farming family in Bamboo County, attempting to make it in the big city of Yuntai after graduation, faced impossible odds due to insurmountable barriers like housing prices and the cost of living.

His only foreseeable path was likely returning home to farm alongside his parents.

Fan Liya, however, couldn’t help but stifle a laugh behind her hand.

While she wasn’t entirely sure of Ye Fei’s current status in Yuntai, she did know that Ye Fei was a super expert to the point that even his uncle, Shao Bing, addressed Ye Fei as "master."

Someone like that, a super expert, clearly wasn’t going to be running "small businesses" as Ye Fei claimed.

But Fan Liya’s laughter made Feng Ming feel like his teasing had hit home. He even assumed that Fan Liya found Ye Fei ridiculous as well.

Eager to press on, Feng Ming continued, "Ye Fei, you know, you could always ask for help from our Young Master Ma! I heard recently that Young Master Ma has befriended a big shot in Yuntai. It definitely wouldn’t be hard to find you some work in Yuntai!"

"Oh, not really! It’s just that I happened to hit it off with Young Master Guo of the Guo Family in Yuntai. We’re just friends, that’s all! Feng Ming, don’t spread rumors," Ma Heng chimed in with a hearty laugh.

The Guo Family in Yuntai?

Upon hearing this, everyone collectively drew in a sharp breath.

In Yuntai, everyone knew that the Guo Family was the number one family, not just in Yuntai but arguably across the entire Northern Su region!

Young Master Guo from the Guo Family was someone so prominent that they couldn’t even dare to dream of associating with him.

And yet, Ma Heng claimed to not only know Young Master Guo but to be friends with him?

With that, the way they looked at Ma Heng changed yet again—from mere flattery to genuine awe.

As for Ye Fei, their former top scorer? He was no longer even worth a glance. To them, he was now just a fleeting joke.

Ma Heng, reveling in the effect his name-dropping had achieved, promptly declared, "We’re all high school classmates, so if you need anything, don’t hesitate to find me. At least here in Yuntai, I’ve got you covered!"

"We’ll hold you to that, Young Master Ma!" everyone responded with laughter, singing their praises once again.

Bang!

Just then, the door to the private room was suddenly kicked open. Three young men, reeking of alcohol, sauntered in.

The one in the lead, holding a woman in his arms, smirked and said, "Yo, Ma Heng, you’re laying it on pretty thick, huh?"
