Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Unspeakable Woes

"The Soul-controlling Technique can devour spiritual bodies across the world and even absorb another’s cultivation and soul! However, directly absorbing another’s cultivation and soul is likely to give rise to a heart demon, leading to unpredictable consequences."

"Only the Mind Control Insect can ignore the influence of the heart demon. But back in the day, despite the Soul-controlling Demon searching for it tirelessly, it remained elusive. Thus, one never dared to recklessly absorb another’s cultivation and soul, lest there be a risk of demise!"

"Unexpectedly, on this abandoned planet Earth, there actually exists a genuine Mind Control Insect. I must obtain it!"

At this thought, Ye Fei’s lips curled upward into a smile.

While he himself found nothing unusual about his thoughts or smile, in Fan Liya’s eyes, it made her furrow her brows slightly.

Not long afterward.

Shao Bing had completed checking the pulse. Though in the past he couldn’t discern anything unusual, even now that remained the case.

"Liya, your body has grown even more weak. I’m still unable to determine the cause, so all I can do is prescribe some restorative medicine to bolster your constitution," Shao Bing sighed and said.

"Thank you, Uncle Shao. I know my own illness well; it’s nothing to worry about," Fan Liya replied with a faint smile.

Shao Bing nodded upon hearing this and then turned to Han Ping, saying, "Han, come with me to buy medicine! Don’t disturb Xiao Ya’s rest."

"Buy medicine? Oh, alright!"

Han Ping immediately nodded and then looked at Ye Fei, saying, "Ye Fei, come with us!"

"No, I’ll stay here and wait for your return," Ye Fei said with a calm smile.

Upon hearing this, Han Ping looked puzzled, while Fan Liya furrowed her brow even more.

After all, although Ye Fei was their high school classmate, he wasn’t particularly close to Fan Liya. Add to that the long period of no contact, being left alone with her was undeniably strange.

However, Shao Bing’s eyes gleamed with joy as he thought to himself, "Could it be my teacher has discerned Fan Liya’s condition?"

At this thought, without waiting for Fan Liya or Han Ping to object, Shao Bing immediately said, "That works too. Then Ye Fei will stay and watch over Xiao Ya while Han, you come with me."

With that, Shao Bing quickly pulled Han Ping out of the bedroom...

*Click!*

A locking sound echoed outside the bedroom—it was clear Shao Bing and Han Ping had exited, leaving only Ye Fei and Fan Liya in the apartment.

Seeing this, Ye Fei immediately prepared to ask about the aura of the Mind Control Insect inside Fan Liya.

But before he could speak, Fan Liya spoke first, her tone cold and distant, as if rejecting him outright: "Ye Fei, I know what you’re about to say. I’m sorry, but I’m not interested in you."

Ye Fei paused briefly upon hearing this, then chuckled, "Do you think I stayed behind because I like you?"

"Isn’t that the case?"

Fan Liya continued to look at Ye Fei with detached indifference.

Although Fan Liya had grown up in the North Suburb, the natural elegance and beauty she possessed had always drawn flocks of admiration from men.

Even after enrolling at Yuntai University, her charm still attracted many obsessive pursuers.

If not for Han Ping willingly acting as a shield for Fan Liya, Fan Qiuya might never have found a moment’s peace.

So evidently, Ye Fei’s previous smile and his decision to stay behind naturally placed him in the same category as those frivolous rogues who used to pursue her incessantly.

Moreover, knowing Han Ping was her loyal shield, Ye Fei still disregarded their high school camaraderie and deliberately stayed behind.

To Fan Liya, this kind of behavior was utterly intolerable!

But at this moment, Ye Fei simply chuckled lightly and said, "To me, you’re no different than the couch, bed, table, the vase on the balcony, insects, or birds in this room. So I think you’ve misunderstood."

No different than the couch, tables, decorations, or even pests?

Fan Liya was visibly taken aback by Ye Fei’s words and asked in confusion, "Then why did you stay?"

"Naturally, for the thing inside you," Ye Fei said emotionlessly.

"You...what are you talking about? I...I don’t understand!"

Fan Liya’s expression instantly turned flustered as she shook her head vehemently in denial.

Yet Ye Fei ignored her reaction and continued, "You may be able to hide it from Shao Bing, but you can’t deceive me. Speak up—perhaps I can help you."

"Help me?"

Fan Liya hesitated for a brief moment, but the hesitance was swiftly replaced by resolve. She took a deep breath and replied firmly, "I don’t know what you’re talking about. And I don’t need your help. Ye Fei, if these are your tactics to pursue me, I find them rather stale!"

"Pursue? What pursuit?"

Just as Fan Liya finished her sentence, Han Ping pushed the door open and entered, looking perplexed, "What pursuit are you talking about?"

Ye Fei, upon seeing this, smiled without saying a word, simply patted Han Ping’s shoulder and stepped toward the door.

Before leaving, Fan Liya’s ears caught Ye Fei’s faint, mocking laughter: "When you figure it out, come find me."

Outside the apartment.

Shao Bing, having waited for Ye Fei to emerge, quickly approached and asked, "Teacher, were you able to identify any issues with Xiao Ya?"

"There are indeed issues, but she refuses to admit them, so there’s nothing I can do," Ye Fei responded with a helpless smile.

While the Mind Control Insect held immense value for Ye Fei, his desire to obtain it was evident.

Yet without Fan Liya’s cooperation, Ye Fei had no choice.

Though she carried traces of the Mind Control Insect within her, Ye Fei’s Divine Sense revealed that she, like Shao Bing, had been planted with a Gu Worm—only hers was the larval form of the Mind Control Insect.

Unlike the Heart-devouring God Worm infecting Shao Bing in its ferocity, the larval Mind Control Insect merely lingered in Fan Liya, consuming her vitality. It was as though her body served as the food source for the parasite’s incubation.

Even if Ye Fei had a method to forcibly extract the Mind Control Insect, its long parasitic presence had made it inseparable from Fan Liya. Should she resist during the extraction, her death would be inevitable.

Shao Bing’s face grew visibly grim upon hearing that even Ye Fei couldn’t resolve it.

"So, teacher, is there truly no way to save Xiao Ya? Though my abilities are limited, my intuition tells me Xiao Ya won’t last much longer," Shao Bing said with furrowed brows.

Ye Fei offered no explanation and simply walked on.

If someone was using Fan Liya’s body to rear the Mind Control Insect, there would inevitably come a day when they came to harvest it.

When that time arrived, he would simply seize them.

Back in the apartment.

After brewing medicine for Fan Liya, Han Ping kept her company for a while before finally leaving.

Staring at the now-empty room, Fan Liya sighed softly and prepared to rest briefly. But just then, the phone on the bedside table suddenly rang.

From the receiver came a sinister and ruthless voice, chuckling coldly, "Why were there so many people at your apartment today? Don’t tell me you dare harbor thoughts of betrayal?"
