Rebirth Of The Noble Mage Behind The Scenes -
Chapter 61 - 61 61 Trading
61: Chapter 61 Trading 61: Chapter 61 Trading The route of this large floating disc is fixed; it automatically avoids obstacles along the way and doesn’t require Pani to personally control it.
“How does it feel?”
After a glance at the surrounding scenery that kept receding into the background, Pani, with a hint of pride as a member of Pamir, turned to face Anvis.
What surprised him, however, was the new student’s extremely indifferent reaction to it all.
He did not instinctively adjust his stance like most new students would, and he didn’t even show a hint of surprise on his face.
Could it be that I have misjudged, and this new student’s background is not so ordinary?
Filled with suspicion, Pani suppressed the urge to boastfully introduce the stable force field of the floating disc to Anvis.
“It feels great, but, if you wouldn’t mind, Guide, could you briefly introduce me to the things I should be aware of at the academy?”
Anvis smiled and casually brought up a common question for new students.
“Oh!
No problem at all!
But there’s no need to address me as ‘Guide.’ My name is Pani, you can just call me by my name!”
Coming back to his senses, Pani quickly said, displaying an enthusiastic smile on his face.
“Okay then, Senior Pani.
I am Anvis.”
Anvis gave a slight nod, similarly sharing his name.
“Anvis, got it.” Pani nodded in return.
“The academy’s rules are very lax.
Apart from not harming other students with malicious intent and having to pass the final exam and obtain a graduation certificate within ten years, there aren’t many specific rules.”
“However, Pamir has an independent credit system, and many things need to be exchanged for credits.
For example, our Mystical School’s graduation certificate requires five thousand credits.”
As he spoke, Pani glanced at Anvis and hesitated slightly.
“Also, I actually would like to propose a trade with you.”
“Oh?
Let’s hear it.”
Anvis looked at Pani with interest.
“The thing is, as a first-year newcomer, you have the privilege to exchange Gold Coins for credits.
The exchange rate is ten Gold Coins for one credit, up to a hundred credits.”
“I am willing to buy your credits at the price of thirty Gold Coins per credit.
If you don’t have enough Gold Coins on hand, I can even pay you in Gold Coins first, and you can transfer the credits to me after you’ve made the exchange.”
Having said that, Pani paused for a moment, his hand tightening on his Magic Wand.
“Of course, since you’re a newcomer, I’ll explain the pros and cons to you first.
Credits are used not only to exchange for graduation certificates but also can be exchanged for rare items and knowledge within the academy that are hard to come by outside.
I’m not cheating you.
Thirty Gold Coins for one credit is the market price here.
Even if you don’t want to trade credits now, you can still exchange them for Gold Coins later in the academy’s trading market at the same rate.”
“However, if you decide to sell credits, I still hope you would come to me for the trade.”
After saying everything in one breath, Pani seemed to finally relax, his demeanor easing.
As someone who had only entered the academy a little over a year ago, he still wasn’t quite used to these kinds of dealings.
“I see.”
Anvis nodded his head and then, with a look of both doubt and curiosity, spoke while gazing into Pani’s brown eyes.
“But, Senior Pani, why do you explain so much?
If you hadn’t explained, maybe I would’ve agreed to trade with you right now—”
Upon hearing this question, Pani was momentarily taken aback, then appeared to recall something and couldn’t help but laugh.
“Sorry, actually, when I entered the academy, I asked a similar question after the senior guiding me had explained all these things to me.”
As he spoke, Pani gradually stopped smiling and became serious.
“The senior’s reply to me at the time was this:
‘In Pamir, it’s not wise to offend others over a mere hundred credits.
Because the price you pay for it in the future might far exceed that number.'”
Anvis was slightly taken aback and then nodded lightly.
“I see.”
He expressed strong agreement with Pani’s statement.
“As a reference, I can tell you about the choice I made back then.”
Unaware of what he had just avoided, Pani continued to share his past experiences.
“Back then, after giving it some thought, I chose to trade half with that senior student, which was fifty credits.”
“Of course, the choice is yours to make…”
Before his words could finish, the rapidly moving Floating Disc suddenly stopped, its height gradually decreasing, and landed at a Floating Disc landing point identical to the one near the air dock.
Pani stopped speaking and looked up with a smile, gesturing ahead.
“We’ve arrived, Pamir Mysterious and Relics Academy!”
Anvis looked up to see towering gray-white stone towers piercing the clouds.
In the circular plaza in front of the main tower door, the ancient fountain pool was gushing with clear Magic Spring Water, and a lifelike statue of Great Emperor Gloria stood in the center of the fountain.
The Great Emperor held the renowned Sword of King Selection in his hands, his feet upon a crystal-like Giant Dragon, his head adorned with a Crown encircled by stars, gazing into the distance with a dignified and inviolable expression.
Inscriptions famous from the Mystical School were engraved on the moss-covered base of the statue.
“Wish for the mysteries to vanish, wish for the mysteries to last forever—”
Anvis silently watched the inscription on the base, as if he could still feel the complex emotions in the heart of Secret Keeper Ocar when he uttered these words.
“Coo— what does it mean coo?”
At that moment, the pigeon perched on his head cooed.
“It means…”
Just as Anvis was about to speak, he suddenly noticed something.
“Wait, I didn’t say that out loud just now, did I?”
“Coo?”
The pigeon turned its head to look at Anvis, seeming somewhat puzzled.
“I’m not communicating with you through sound waves coo — you didn’t ‘hear’ me speaking, but perceived that I was speaking coo!”
“You didn’t notice this coo?”
“What’s the matter, junior Anvis?”
Seemingly noticing that Anvis was taken aback for a moment, Pani looked at him curiously.
“Oh!
Nothing, I was just reading the inscriptions on the base of that statue.”
Anvis subtly turned his head and gestured towards the statue.
“That ancient Gurmani language inscription?”
Pani nodded in understanding.
“That is the most famous motto of the Mystical School, originated from His Excellency Secret Keeper Ocar.
I’m ashamed to say, I can only understand the first half.”
“The absence of mysteries is the ultimate goal of our Mystical School.
That is, to transfer all spells categorized within the Mystical School to other Schools’ categories.”
“As for the second half, I don’t dare to speculate.
Perhaps only by reaching the level of His Excellency Secret Keeper, one could truly understand its profound meaning.”
“I see—”
Anvis wore a proper smile, and with three consecutive taps on his chest, he respectfully and gracefully saluted towards the statue.
Afterward, under Pani’s guidance, Anvis got a quick understanding of the internal structure of the Mysterious and Relics Academy and collected his Identity Card from the Academy’s Task Hall.
The Pamir Identity Card is a very convenient item; it has many functions.
For example, contacting others, receiving credits, activating Academy facilities, and so forth.
However, conversely, if one were to lose it, getting a replacement would be quite troublesome and expensive.
In the meantime, Anvis went to the exchange counter and exchanged 1000 Gold Coins for 100 credits.
Under Pani’s somewhat heartbroken gaze, Anvis straightforwardly paid fifty credits to exchange for the right to use an independent Second Level residence for one year.
