Rebirth Of The Noble Mage Behind The Scenes -
Chapter 340 - 115 Dark
Chapter 340: Chapter 115 Dark
Minutes before the real passage’s gateway opened, another mirror passage held a student squad trying to return, who had already sensed that something was amiss.
It was precisely the squad consisting of the female Knight Alisa, the Child of Destiny Roche, Matt, and others.
Unlike the combination of Claire and Anvis, they did not encounter the altered murals, but they were likewise unable to pass through the time-space turbulence at the end of the corridor.
After trying various methods without success, they could only choose to return the way they came, but even after half a day’s journey, the stone gate exit from earlier was still nowhere in sight.
At this time, their location had left the area adorned with murals and entered the narrow rock corridors they had traversed on the way there.
Judging from the time spent walking, they had almost traveled twice the distance of the outward journey, yet the corridor ahead remained shrouded in darkness, with the anticipated exit still absent.
The only thing illuminated by the cold white halo of the Magic Lantern was more darkness.
The monotonous sound of everyone’s footsteps echoed in the cramped corridor, gradually swallowed by the darkness. No one spoke; a faint oppressive atmosphere quietly spread amongst the squad.
"Captain Mondolo, everyone, have you noticed that the length of this corridor seems different?"
Once he noticed this, Roche decisively broke the silence and addressed the air of discomfort within the squad.
"What have you found, Roche?"
As he spoke, everyone in the squad immediately stopped. To the left and front, a tall and burly student with brown hair and red eyes, clad in Magic Light Armor and holding a long Magic Wand, looked over.
He was Mondolo, a Fourth Rank intermediate student of the Transformation School, and the son of a brown-haired, blue-eyed Mercenary Group captain.
What few knew was that he was also a secret member of the freshman Resistance Organization, Starfire.
In fact, Alisa was the strongest member of the squad, but she had declined the leadership position, and thus it had fallen to him.
It was said that before Mondolo was born, his mother dreamt of a Giant Dragon with red eyes entering her womb, and that led to his birth.
His father was also good to him, never mistreating him despite Mondolo not resembling him.
Mondolo was promising, showing great Talent, and was selected by the academy’s recruiters to join Pamir Academy when he reached the appropriate age. He had been studying there for seven years and was expected to break through to Fourth Rank and meet graduation requirements before his fifteenth year.
"No, but I think we may have fallen into some sort of magical effect, and fear continuing this way will still leave us unable to escape," Roche replied, shaking his head, expressing his judgment.
"Then what should we do, mighty Roche?" came a taunting voice. A teenager with light green hair, strength at Third Rank initial stage, was provocatively looking at him.
Previously, in a combat segment, Roche had used his Second Rank peak strength to forcefully defeat a Third Rank initial stage student from the opposing side, securing a crucial victory for their squad.
Bear in mind, this was not a victory over some ordinary Professionals, but over elite talents from the same Pamir Academy.
Under these circumstances, though his current strength was only at Second Rank peak, most members of the squad greatly valued his opinions.
Nevertheless, there was a newly joined member who disapproved of him, believing that his success was due solely to good luck in facing one of the weaker students, and thus his victory was not truly earned.
His name was Pei Zi, also from a non-Noble family and enrolled four years earlier than Roche. In Pamir Academy, those coming from lesser backgrounds usually opted to stick together.
"...There are many types of magical effects that could cause this phenomenon, such as spatial disorder, Illusion Hall, Dream World Descent, and so on.
"We must first distinguish which situation we are currently facing before we can systematically find a solution."
Ignoring Pei Zi’s provocation, Roche turned directly to the others and expressed his thoughts.
Sometimes he wondered why there were always people who would provocatively challenge him regardless of the actual circumstances.
"Don’t give Roche a hard time, Pei Zi. He is just a freshman who has been at the school for less than a year."
Next to him, Matt also spoke up in defense of Roche.
Being ignored by Roche made Pei Zi’s face turn ugly. To his ears, Matt’s words sounded like an invisible mockery.
Having reached the peak of Second Rank in less than a year, what did that make him who spent a full five years to reach the peak and break through Second Rank—a failure?
"Hmph! I..."
Just as he was about to say something more, the entire corridor suddenly started to vibrate slightly without any warning. And with the passage of time, the trembling became stronger and stronger!
"What’s happening? ...Mihau? Gow? Casse?!"
With the tremors, three team members who had just remained silent suddenly vanished into thin air without a trace.
Seeing this eerie scene unfold before them, everyone was suddenly somewhat panicked.
This was the moment when the true entity of the main gate began to open—
...
As the true gate opened, all the mirror images of the corridor environment trembled simultaneously, and abnormal changes began to occur in the environment.
Some students, who were exploring inside, suddenly realized that something was wrong, and from time to time, someone discovered that some of their teammates had already disappeared.
What had been following them were not their teammates but something else!
"Look, what is that?"
As the vibration intensified, everyone noticed a profound darkness spreading from the direction they had come from, slowly crawling out of the corridor!
This was not an ordinary darkness that could be illuminated by a light; it was a complete and utter blackness like an endless void.
Footprints, rocks, the air, all were engulfed by the surging darkness.
Some people threw magic and objects into the darkness to test it, but in the end, everything disappeared silently into the darkness.
Witnessing this terrifying scene, everyone began frantically running toward the front, even though they knew there was an insurmountable barrier ahead, no one wanted to feel the sensation of being taken by the darkness right then.
In such a situation, the crowd quickly exited the narrow corridor, entering an area decorated with murals.
Surprisingly, and to the immense relief of everyone, the chaotic space-time barrier that had originally stretched in front of them had disappeared at some point.
Without time to ponder, many students hurriedly moved forward to avoid being caught by the rapidly approaching darkness behind them.
If the panicked crowd had been more attentive, they would have noticed that the number of strange figures depicted in the sixth mural corresponded exactly to the number of people who had just disappeared from the team.
As the crowd moved swiftly forward, finally, a circular exit, just like the one they had entered through, appeared before their eyes.
