Rebirth: My Dear Little Wife Is So Scheming
Chapter 1004: Heart Attack

Chapter 1004: Chapter 1004: Heart Attack

"Why do these city folks have to meddle in our village’s affairs?"

The men in the crowd were disgruntled. To them, these people were outsiders. Even though they respected doctors, involving themselves in village matters felt like an infringement on their territory and authority.

The men immediately started clamoring.

"Even though they’re doctors, they can’t just interfere with our business."

"If things go on like this, everyone will goad our wives to go against us. How are we supposed to live then?"

This was what these men truly thought.

In the village, men were like heaven, men were like gods. In the household, men ate the best. All the chores were done by women. Besides farm work, women also had to take care of the housework and bring up the children.

If today turned into such a commotion, what if their women saw that Bai Na could do it, why couldn’t they?

By then, chaos would ensue; this was about safeguarding the men’s rights.

Even the old Clan Leader jumped in, stamping his cane forcefully on the ground.

"Doctor Bai, Doctor Zhang, and Doctor Lü, there’s no need for you to handle this matter today. It’s better you go back and rest."

This was an expulsion.

Xiaoyu tugged at Bai Xiao, knowing that Doctor Zhang couldn’t control Doctor Bai.

If Doctor Bai didn’t leave, there could be big trouble in the village today. If they angered the masses and were detained or beaten, no one would protect them.

Going against an entire village wouldn’t end well.

Bai Na gratefully said to Bai Xiao, "Doctor Bai, thank you not only for saving the lives of me and my child but also for standing up, showing me there are still clear-minded people in this world. There are still people who sympathize with me, and I’m not unreasonable. That’s enough. This is my own matter. Please don’t get involved any further; it will only bring trouble and danger to you."

Weng Jiefang immediately became arrogant, tightly gripping Bai Na’s wrist, "You lazy woman, go, hurry home with me. Don’t think these city people backing you mean anything, let me tell you they’ll leave eventually, and see how I’ll deal with you after they’re gone."

Bai Na’s face changed from the pain.

Weng Jiefang did it on purpose; her arm was almost being twisted off by him.

Bai Xiao kicked Weng Jiefang. It was so sudden that Weng Jiefang, unprepared, was sent flying by her kick.

The men in the village wouldn’t stand for it.

A woman actually attacked a man.

Isn’t this chaos?

Immediately, they picked up sticks and hoes, surrounding Xiaoyu, Bai Xiao, and the other two.

"Get out, get out of our village!"

"A woman should be at home having children and caring for her husband, what’s she doing here?"

"Daring to hit a man, it’s lawlessness."

"Chase them out of our village."

The crowd was in an uproar, almost ready to actually drive them out.

Xiaoyu and Doctor Zhang were really frightened; if these people lost control and started beating them, there’d be no recourse even if they were beaten to death.

After all, this wasn’t the first brawl here that ended unresolved.

After all, the law doesn’t punish everyone.

Suddenly, the old Clan Leader swayed, clutching his chest, and collapsed to the ground.

His body convulsed, eyes rolling back.

Everyone was frightened.

The Clan Leader’s son panicked, squatting down to help his father breathe.

But clearly, his efforts were futile; the old Clan Leader’s condition wasn’t improving, only worsening.

Now, the villagers looked at Doctor Zhang, Bai Xiao, and Xiaoyu.

Yet, they couldn’t utter a word, putting down the sticks and hoes they held.

Just moments ago, they were calling for the doctors’ heads, and now they had to turn and ask for help? How could they say that?

In an instant, everyone’s faces felt hot, stung as if just slapped.

Indeed, how could they forget these were doctors?

If they had an illness or incident here, wasn’t it the doctors who treated them?

Without Dean Lü occasionally providing some medicines, even with diseases, they could only endure at home.

Many people had died from minor illnesses.

Now, they were bullying the doctors, shouting to attack, almost killing them.

How could they ask now?

While they hesitated, Bai Xiao and Doctor Zhang had already pushed past those standing by, and along with Xiaoyu, approached the old Clan Leader.

Bai Xiao gently pushed aside the Clan Leader’s son, "Get out of the way, let me see what’s wrong with your father."

Though the Clan Leader’s son didn’t fully understand, he knew from their gestures that the doctors were examining his father.

He hastily moved aside.

Bai Xiao and Doctor Zhang quickly took out their stethoscopes.

Bai Xiao checked the pulse; Doctor Zhang carried out other examinations.

The old Clan Leader suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Doctor Zhang quickly cleared the old Clan Leader’s airway of possible blockages, had him laid on a hard surface, head to the side, and unbuttoned his shirt, starting chest compressions for heart resuscitation.

Bai Xiao’s examination found such a condition required surgery. Even if he recovered now, it was merely a temporary fix, always at risk of life-threatening danger.

Finally, the old Clan Leader let out a long breath and opened his eyes.

The Clan Leader’s son, somewhat agitated, tried to lift the old Clan Leader but was stopped by Doctor Zhang.

Xiaoyu hurriedly translated.

"Brother Ma Jie, the old man has a heart problem and can’t be moved now. After examining him, Doctor Zhang and Doctor Bai found it’s a heart issue; he must be taken to the hospital for surgery. Otherwise, even if he wakes up today, he might fall unconscious again anytime. If other symptoms appear, it might be too late to get him to a hospital since it’s at least over three hours by mountain road to the hospital.

Doctor Zhang and Doctor Bai hope you’ll send the old man to the hospital as soon as possible."

Hearing this, the Clan Leader’s son grew anxious, never realizing his father’s condition was so severe.

His father’s health had been occasionally bad with fainting spells, but he hadn’t anticipated such grave consequences.

"I won’t have surgery, that opening the chest and belly just to die at the hospital, I won’t go—I’d rather die at home," the old Clan Leader weakly told his son.

The Clan Leader’s son was torn. In their village, those with severe illnesses sent to the hospital never returned.

In their belief, going to the hospital had no good end; it was a dead end.
