Chapter 1000: Chapter 1000 Childbirth

This is the decisive moment.

If Bai Na still cannot deliver the baby, both mother and child will die.

Labor pains will continue, but Bai Na will grow increasingly weaker.

Bai Xiao’s special ability has already come into play, and she has now learned to control it. She cannot rely entirely on her ability every time, so she’s holding back a part of it.

The baby’s small bottom finally emerges from Bai Na’s body, and Bai Xiao quickly reaches out to grab it, but the baby, covered in mucus, is too slippery.

She reaches her hand into the opening and grabs the baby’s leg. "Push again! He’s about to come out," she shouts to Bai Na.

Xiaoyu hurriedly wipes Bai Na’s sweat and conveys Bai Xiao’s meaning to her.

But Bai Na is evidently exhausted and has lain back down, the pain nearly incapacitating her.

Bai Xiao can only wait for her next contraction.

Special abilities are for moments of crisis, not for mere hope.

A few seconds later, the contractions begin again.

Bai Xiao uses the natural power of Bai Na’s internal muscles and quickly pulls the baby’s lower body out of the mother, revealing it’s a boy.

She desperately uses her ability in her hands and inserts a finger to prevent Bai Na’s muscles from contracting and trapping the baby’s head, causing harm. Under the influence of her ability, she seems to know what to do, and with her other hand, she steadily pulls the entire baby out.

It only takes an instant.

The little thing lies softly beneath Bai Na.

The baby and Bai Na both lie quietly, completely still.

Xiaoyu is already dumbfounded.

Though it’s her first delivery, and she didn’t participate, she watched the entire process of the baby’s arrival.

What a miraculous event.

Bai Xiao picks up the little mass, so soft it’s almost unbelievable, and fears she might break his neck. She lets him lie on her arm and firmly pats his back.

His tiny chest starts to rise and fall, and as air enters his lungs for the first time, the baby lets out a faint cry.

Bai Xiao finally smiles.

If he cries, it’s all good.

"Alright, alright, this is good!" Bai Xiao says softly with excitement, turning the baby over to check if anything is blocking his throat or mouth.

Her ability guides her as if she knows every step.

In such a situation, she must perform this step first, but this time, getting the child to breathe seems more important.

The little guy cries and vigorously waves his limbs.

As if telling everyone his grievances and dissatisfaction.

Because he’s been inside his mother’s belly for too long.

Bai Xiao’s face shows a weary smile.

His cries grow stronger with each utterance.

By now, the umbilical cord is no longer useful. She ties it close to his small belly, swiftly cuts it using scissors that Xiaoyu had sterilized, and wraps him in a garment Bai Na handed over to keep him warm.

After placing him beside Bai Na, she turns her attention back to the girl.

Bai Na is actually in a semi-conscious state.

"Your son is here, Bai Na," Bai Xiao has Xiaoyu tell her. "He’s a boy and looks healthy. Listen to his cries! So strong, he’ll grow into a handsome young man. Both of you are fine. Soon the afterbirth will come out. I’ll clean you up, and you’ll feel comfortable, then you can rest."

Xiaoyu doesn’t know how she can say such comforting words, almost looking at Bai Xiao in admiration.

Bai Xiao’s pale lips tremble silently; she has no strength to hold her child.

Under Bai Xiao’s special ability, Bai Na’s body is barely stable, with no major bleeding or other complications. Without the ability, the woman might not have made it.

Bai Xiao takes a slight breath.

The placenta soon descends.

After handling the non-abnormal heavy bleeding, Bai Xiao can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, it was her. If it were someone else, they probably wouldn’t have been able to do anything; given the earlier situation, Bai Na would certainly have hemorrhaged, endangering the young mother’s life, as she had exhausted all her strength.

She cleans Bai Na’s body, tidies the meager bedding, covers Bai Na with a blanket, and picks up the crying little baby.

His mother is too weak to care for him.

She holds him gently in her arms, softly rocking him, and sure enough, he quiets down, his furry little head tilting towards her.

She hands the child over to Weng Jiefang waiting outside, who glances at the child with disdain and then asks Xiaoyu what this is.

Xiaoyu angrily points at him, yelling.

Only then does Bai Xiao realize that Weng Jiefang actually sees the child as a jinx, thinking that taking two days to be born is an ominous sign in their village.

Eventually, the village elders arrived, calming Xiaoyu and the others’ anger, and Weng Jiefang promised to take good care of the mother and son, bringing the baby inside to place him beside Bai Na. Despite being exhausted, the young mother still looked at her child with delight.

Bai Na raised her head, her pale and thin face illuminated by a brilliant smile.

These words were later told to Bai Xiao by Xiaoyu; Bai Na indeed said these words to Bai Xiao then.

"Thank you, doctor. I’m so grateful you were here."

Bai Xiao grinned wryly, knowing only she understood Bai Na hovered between life and death. Without Bai Xiao’s ability, Bai Na would have likely died from hemorrhage during difficult labor.

The village people spoke to them, Xiaoyu shaking her head repeatedly.

Only then did Bai Xiao realize the villagers were grateful for saving the mother and wanted them to stay for a meal.

Bai Xiao and her team politely declined, as they had other patients to see.

Though, according to tradition, they would stay the night to attend to other patients if needed.

They stayed in a vacant hut used by Dean Lu and his team whenever they visited, so they settled there.

It’s merely a thatched hut, swaying in the wind and rain, quite rundown. However, the other houses here aren’t much better, all drafty and leaky. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Lucky it didn’t rain today; otherwise, who knows how they would manage lodging inside.

All afternoon, villagers came continually, probably due to Bai Xiao saving Bai Na. They revered them almost as divine.

After all, around here, girls like Bai Na, if the midwife declares labor difficult, rarely survive. Bai Xiao managed to save a mother and child previously deemed unsavable, making her a Divine Doctor in their eyes.

Of course, they have no idea how rare Divine Doctors like Bai Xiao truly are.

Bai Xiao worked a whole day, and only after night fell did she find peace, starting to write her day’s delivery experiences into a report.
